New season so time to open the spring thread.
Will we get an improvement from the previous two stinkers? Time will tell.
A mostly cloudy and dry start in Dublin 13 with any rain spreading southeast fizzling out.
Discussing low water levels, UÉ said it was a relatively dry winter that did not replenish our lakes enough. Was the rain really that absent, or are UÉ fibbing?
Don't currently have records to hand but late June 2018 had notably low relative humidity.
For example, graph below of RH for Ballyhaise (Cavan) on 29th June 2018 with humidity as low as 26%. Air temperature was 26.0C with a dew point of just 5.4C.
Looks like Dblin was coldest yet again today, well it was still roasting for us, kids just finished their 2nd water fight this weekend, who needs technology all you need is good weather for kids to have fun like old days for hours😁.
Black Head, Burren
If you ever go across the sea to Ireland
Then maybe at the closing of your day…
Cracking spell of weather
Thought I was imagining….I wasn't! Light rain shower in Greystones now.
Spitting rain in Dundrum now
First morning I haven't woken up to blue skies in a while in Dublin....hope this is only a blip
Lovely morning in Wexford. Cloud approaching thought I think
You need to capture it a bit later, when the Burren turns purple in the setting sun 😃
a different morning here in Meath, cool, cloudy and the breeze is fairly nippy. Definitely not t-shirt weather.
We've just had a torrential downpour here in South West Dublin
Stunning sunset in Longford yesterday. Photos were taken at 21:51. Another sunny morning today but there's a noticeable breeze as well, making it feel quite cool.
Shannon at 19C at 11am. A few stations got to 18C already.
No rain here for 24 days. Blue skies again today.
Beautiful morning in Kerry, over 20C at my site.
Loverly now In Castleisland , a few clouds bubbling up.
dull and chilly 12.8c, the good news for us east coasters is that temperatures will ‘return closer to average’ later in the week as the wind changes to the W.
Been saying similar to those disappointed hearing about falling temperatures this week considering air temp wise the East was rarely warm to begin with. (Plenty warm sheltered from a breeze and in the Sun though)
.ie that the falling temperatures forecast probably refers to the geographical majority of the country in the midlands and west where air temperatures will fall from the mid 20’s down to the mid to high teens….which for us on the east coast especially if the oul Fohen effect gets going from the Wicklow/Dublin mountains, means we might actually be seeing an improvement in air temperatures compared to the last few weeks.
Eg. Air temps of 16-18c is a come down to seasonal norms for the midlands and west from their toasty 24-26c they've been experiencing of late. Whereas those same 16-18c air temps will be an improvement on the 13-15c we've been experiencing on the East coast with the potential of a Fohen top up to 18-20c. In any clear skies out of a sea breeze under the strong May Sun we might be feeling a lot warmer here in the East than at any time over the last few weeks. Like I said it already felt very pleasant and plenty warm in the direct Sun and sheltered from a Sea Breeze on the East Coast anyway.
Also really helped keeping the temp inside the house down with that breeze
Was thinking same myself. Can't wait for mid to high teens (that I heard forecast) after being stuck in long run of low teens! E.g. 12.8c atm in Greystones.
Partly cloudy and breezy today . Still nice but a fair bit cooler.
Sun and blue skies coming through in Dublin City now…still breezy though
You can check the monthly rainfall on Met.ie and UE are telling the truth
Monthly Data - Met Éireann - The Irish Meteorological Service
In Dublin Airport since last May only 2 months have had more rainfall than the long term average and most of the months were well below it.
First rain 🌧 since 25th April
Temp fell from 20.2 at 1 pm
Plenty of thunder and lightning 🌩
Some rain in east clare finally. Plants will be delighted.
System seems to be shoving south now.
It's so cold today 😫
I must get a weather station up and running at my house in Rathdrum because it definitely felt much warmer than the temperatures forecast and reported from the likes of yourself Docarch. Although nobody will argue the fact that today is quite chilly in comparison to the last few days. I know you're on the coast so it's always going to be that bit cooler and breezier with that setup we've been in, and I'm in a valley so while it can get breezy depending on the wind direction I think we're generally more sheltered, but at only 15-20km from the coast I think it shouldn't be that much different. I was sitting out in the garden in shorts and a light tshirt Saturday and Sunday and had to move into the shade a few times to cool down. Interesting how things can be so different just a short distance away.
Exactly. The past few weeks have been gorgeous for Dublin. But as I say every year the East usually gets its best weather with "poorer" synoptics.
When a strong ridge of HP is right over us we often get plagued by mist and sea fog - often not forecast - and/or a chilly breeze. (Though thankfully this recent High has brought endless sun).
Our best weather usually comes when there's slack pressure over us, with winds from the West or South West. Showers feed in from the Atlantic but we just manage to stay dry with partly cloudy conditions and temps of around 21 or 22º. No doubt we'll see it a fair bit over the coming weeks.
A couple of kilometres inland makes a big difference depending on the stregth of the wind.
I was in Ashord Friday evening, which is probably only max. 5km inland, and was/felt warm there (19c on car thermo) while 13c in Greystones.
Sun breaking through now in Greystones. 12.9c atm.
Turned into a lovely day in Wexford, breeze is pretty much gone compared to the last couple weeks and it's quite warm in the garden.
20C at Mace Head at 5pm report. A good few thunderstorms on the radar. We could do with a burst of rain here.
I see there are a few gorse and bog fires being lit just before rain arrives.
