New season so time to open the spring thread.
Will we get an improvement from the previous two stinkers? Time will tell.
A mostly cloudy and dry start in Dublin 13 with any rain spreading southeast fizzling out.
Don't post that image on Twitter/X 🤣✈️
Costa Del Dublin 😎
Nice copy and paste of the Met tweet without fixing their mess up on "high pressure is leading to low (amounts of) cloud" 😅.
The extended period of good weather here in Ireland is the result of a weather pattern known as an "Omega blocking high" which is two low-pressure systems trapping an area of high-pressure in a shape like the Greek letter Omega Ω
It forms when the jet stream is weak and meanders from north to south ending up with stationary high-pressure sandwiched between two low-pressure systems to either side.
High pressure is leading to low cloud, resulting in uninterrupted sun
and increased heat.
And the best thing is that this period of warm weather will last until at least Friday next week
almost no breeze at all in Galway, like a greenhouse! 24c
😎
Newport in Mayo highest at 13:00 with 23C
You're lucky.
It's still a bit cool even during the day along the East coast and much of Dublin. And downright chilly at night.
The widespread sunshine and lack of rain is glorious though.
But hopefully we get a week or two of nice weather during actual summer too so that we can finally get some warm >20º days in Dublin.
Great drying weather!
mañana
Still 20c in donegal and 11c in Meath and eastern parts of West Meath
Starting to get warm at night out west and can certainly feel it here. Belmullet and Newport 17 degrees at 10pm.
Cooling down here in Kerry to 12.7C and humid feel with fog forming after the rain today but beautiful evening.
Pic of fog forming in fields across the road few moments ago.
Omega block because Ω

Beautiful day again.
19 degrees but feeling warmer in the sun out of the breeze in North Dublin.
Seafront cool breeze but stunning wall to wall sunshine again . So lucky with this weather .
High Cirrus clouds in Sligo and got up to 22c . Very warm in the shade of the wind and pleasant in it too. Ideal weather. I know for sure this will be the best weather we get this year in Sligo. Maybe we will get warmer spells in other months but not endless days of sun like April and May. This is right up there with the Covid Spring. Maybe it's when Liverpool win the league.
A strong and chilly east wind blowing in Meath. Still good sunshine.
24c at shannon as of 16:00
Another whitethorn
Belmullet hit 24C at 15:00.
Lovely day again in Dublin although cool in that breeze but will live with that..
Fair breeze in neighbouring Longford. Regarding your stunning blackthorn, is it possible it's actually whitethorn? I have a good few whitethorn and they are looking stunning but the blackthorns finished flowering a good while ago as they normally flower before whitethorn. An easy way to distinguish between the two is that blackthorn generally flower before the leaves emerge whilst whitethorn flower after the leaves emerge.
Despite the breeze, it has just hit 21° with clear skies.
Mayo doing well. Belmullet and Newport up to 20C already.
It's a little weird waking up to blue skies day after day. I could do with one of those thunderstorms. My closest station (Athenry) showing 0.0mm of rain for May thus far.
Clouds in the sky above but just those wispy ones. 3c cooler than this time yesterday so a max of 21c likely. Wel take that. This Week and next week good, after that ?able.
Lovely morning but that wind is rather cool first thing. The blackthorn is absolutely stunning at the moment. Leitrim.
The outlook continues to be class. Hopefully the breakdown coming for the end of May won’t last too long. We deserve it after 23’ and 24’
We went straight to the beach after school for 2 hours. It was magical in the 23 degree heat. Everyone was in great form. Beautiful memories made.
Got up to 22.7C here near Tralee today, really smashing day, after the afternoon cloud it cleared again to blue skies this evening.
sun,sun,sun.
Yes from 10am from 830pm it's been over 20c in Sligo and it's not even mid May. Usually a 20c day here is for 5 minutes.
I actually can't believe this evening, I was at football training in summer dress at 7pm and it was actually still roasting, unbelievable😎
Unreal evening again 😎 I remember last year there was barely more than a handful of days right through the spring and first half of summer where I could sit outside after work, the past couple of months it's been nearly every evening.
Given the outlook we must be on track for one of the sunniest springs on record at this stage?
