I know it's allowed but I'd never do it
Alls fair in love and war
Really? If in a fourball match one opponent has a birdie putt from 6 feet and his partner has one for par on the same line from 8 feet I’m 100% conceding the par putt. Crazy not to. Guy with the birdie putt isn’t going to 3 putt from 6 feet.
Obviously if the birdie putt wasn’t nailed on to be a 2 putt at worst then I wouldn’t concede the par putt.
No , I'd just let them play it out whatever way they want.
Fair enough, I’d be way too competitive not to close up that potential advantage they’re getting!
If you concede are they obliged not to take the putt?
If taking the putt will help their partner by giving them the line then they are not allowed to take the putt after a concession.
If they do take it then their partner's score can no longer count on that hole.
Played inter-club at the weekend. We were all square going up the 18th (both clubs level 2-2) and the opposition wanted to concede a putt to their partner, but he would have been standing on my line. I had previously allowed it on the 17th as it was only part of his heel, but this time it would have been both feet planted all over it. They didn't ask this time, but gave a look that implied they were making the request again, but I ignored them, focused on my putt and let them go back to the original order of play.
Was I in the right to not allow it?
If they would have been standing on your line then it sounds like they were closer to the hole than you and it was your turn to putt anyway?
What do you mean by "they wanted to concede to their partner" ? That they wanted their partner to finish first so they could have a run at it?
Yep
In Matchplay, they "shouldn't" play out of turn, so if you're further away, its your shot. You can ask them to retake it if they do play out of turn, but there's no penalty. Can see it being a funny one alright if player a is 2 feet for par, but his partner is 8 feet, and you're 6 feet away for birdies.
I'm still a bit confused tbh but if Player A from the opposition was furthest away (and next to play) and Player B was in close to the hole, then the opposition can choose to "play out of turn" on their own turn if they wish, I think.
Yea actually I'm wrong, its covered here, the pairing can play either shot they want when its their go: https://www.randa.org/en/rog/the-rules-of-golf/rule-23#23_6 As for standing on the line, I would let them play the shot, but only if they don't stand on the line. Its tough titties if they have to adapt to move around it.
It would be poor etiquette from your opponent but you have zero say in whether they wanted to putt first or not. There is nothing in the rules preventing him from standing on your line in order to take his stance. Of course, you can do your best to repair any damage afterwards.
Under the rules, it would be tough luck to you as they would be under no obligation to mind your line.
Played Druids Glen there on Tuesday. Expectations were high having heard about its re-do and moving up the rankings.
Must say maybe my expectations were too high as i came away a little underwhelmed. Conditioning was fairly poor, my home parkland is in better shape. Some of the tee boxes looked like they hadn't been touched in a few weeks and the greens were average.
The real highlight for me were the par 3s. Probably haven't played a group of par 3s as spectacular anywhere, simply beautiful. The 8th especially is a superb hole, beautifully framed with the water short and the high trees and flowers beds behind.
Overall though for a 2 and a half hour journey there for me i won't be rushing back.
Playing in Headfort this week. Is there a Driving Range nearby?
I played it last year on a nice day after it was freshly done up and I thought it was magnificent, but I have heard very recently that members are not happy at the moment in regards to condition so not sure what's going on.
Not really no, as far as I’m aware the range is still closed , being how far from the course it is the usefulness before a round is not great either.
Closest is a range about 10minutes away called joethepro , trackman range
There’s nets at both courses if it’s just to warm up.
Was playing with my son and his pal on Tuesday. His pal had a new fitted driver with extra stiff shafts. Mine is an older Ping model with regular shafts. We were both driving very well. After hitting 2 good drives, we decided to swap and hit a drive. Mine scuttled down the right, barely a foot off the ground. His ballooned off to the right, out of bounds.
I could really feel the difference early in the swing. Really brought home the difference the shafts makes. Although I've never had a driver fitted, that certainly swayed me towards it.
Have a fitting in the morning for irons.
Playing with pal today who's just acquired the same irons but in his own specs. He's comfortabley 6'' taller than me.
I am leaning to lighter shafts etc.
His are 115 gm 1 inch longerand I hit two 6's off our 18th and was blown away as how far these clubs hit the ball ,that I would never be fitted into.
Looking at getting irons regripped, but the cost of getting them done by a pro is a bit steep for my liking. Does anyone know a site where I could pick up a bunch for cheaper than the brick stores here? I don't mind putting them on myself
https://www.clubhousegolf.co.uk/acatalog/Golf_Pride_Tour_Velvet.html#SID=5958
Obviously depends what particular grip you are looking for but the tour velvets at €8.50 is a good deal there
I got grips on Amazon, hadn't done it before. White spirits are key, and a few youtube videos.
Ya anything I've ever read or seen says don't spare the white spirit, makes the job a lot easier
I went with the golf pride tour velvet 360 from same website. 10 grips 80 quid and put them on myself. Simple enough job, bit tricker if you buy grips that need to be aligned with any designs or markings. That's why I opted for the 360.
Ya I'm thinking next time I'm changing I'll go the 360 option too. Takes away any doubt about getting it lined up correctly
Im playing a round with a golfer visiting from UK (with a whs hcap), can they attest my score in the GI App? I think they can but will searching for their membership number find them in the app?
Is this the future of golf??
