Kevin Bakhurst has said that RTÉ has asked the EBU for a discussion about Israel's inclusion in the Eurovision Song Contest (ESC).
How likely is it that Israel's contestant will banned from the ESC?
I'm guessing the poster has no idea what the difference between non-binary and transgender is based on these posts.
Non binary/transgender, excuse me if I'm not precise with the terminology.
The Iranian government gives grants for people who are transitioning, so it's not like it's outlawed in all Muslim countries. There are many religious fanatics in Israel who are completely against any gay or transgender rights.
I can be disgusted and I am disgusted, just like I am disgusted with what Hamas did on Oct 7th.
But at the end of the day and in the grand scheme of things do I care?
Not really.
If I cared I'd actually be doing something about it.
I'd be donating money to a charity or something.
But why just the victims of that conflict ?
Are the victims of other conflicts not worthy of my care and charity?
And what about things closer to home than I'm disgusted with.
Surely they should take precedence in my care and charity, rather than some conflict thousands of miles away going on for thousands of years.
So for all the people that care about the Palestinian or Israeli people caught in this conflict, what are you doing about it and do you care about other conflicts and if you do what are you doing about it?
Don't worry . Alot of us don't know
Again if you care so little why bother posting in threads like this?
And on the flip side a lot of literate people do know.
I think you're just being an edgelord and you're probably a 55+ man
Non-binary!
As I said earlier because I like to laugh at the pro Palestinian Irish people and even more so I enjoy watching Eurovision at all the drama around it.
I don't care so much for the singing etc but I love the voting.
And I'm looking forward to more meltdowns here by people who to claim to care for the Palestinians when Isreal peform well.
You do realise you are making a fool of yourself here? Such bratty rhetoric.
Neither.
I had a epiphany around the time of the Qatar World Cup.
I realized that at the end of the day I didn't really care about some Indian construction workers who died building the stadiums, or some Bangladeshi who got paid a pittance.
I didn't really care about the people living in my local community that were struggling, so why should I care about something as remote as working conditions in Qatar
I was probably going to end up watching and enjoying the World Cup anyway, so I decided to watch it and enjoy it.
Buddy, you say you had an epiphany, but failed in every absolute way to take a lesson from it.
I'm no theologian, but you need to find some way to experience empathy
Podge & Rodge got away with this
Theres international sanctions against Russia so far there's no agreement to sanction Israel for it's genocide in Gaza and it's total block on food supplys getting into Gaza .Probably some country's are afraid to criticize Israel as trump is supporting Israel completely and they are dealing with trumps trade sanctions . It seems the IDF,s policy is to starve those who they cannot bomb .
Because something something lefties.
The only life goal of some people is to own the libs, which is a pretty sad indictment of their own lives.
In all fairness though, RTE asking for discussions instead of avoiding them is a step in the right direction.
I wonder what hand they have to play when making a demand of any sort.
So if you had family members or friends who had their house broken into and were all murdered, you wouldn't care, I suppose. The garda could say "I don't care about that. I had an epiphany and I realised that I actually don't care". Then all the legal system and politicians could say the same thing. That's basically what you're saying; have no consequences for criminal behaviour. Israel has been shown to have engaged in behaviour outside of international law, on innumerable occasions over the last eighteen months, but have suffered no consequences for it.
No. They're non binary.

But terfs love to bring trans issues into everything that they can. It's amazing that the far right groups that want to remove trans rights are also generally anti muslim. They'll say muslims are bad because LGBT+ people, and in particular trans people, have more rights here than in muslim countries. And as the same time, they'll argue against trans rights and want us to be more like those muslim countries.
This sounds pretty sad and petty. Let's just leave it at, you don't particularly care about innocent Palestinians being effectively murdered and actually seem to find comedy in the people who care.
Why can't we just beat Israel
theyll do well. Better than us. Everyone leaning pro israel in Europe will vote for them and everyone against genocide will not watch the show.
I think it really well done that the RTÉ staff decided to bring this up as in an issue, and well done to Kay Before for asking the EBU for a discussion on the issue.
I don't think it is anyway a distraction from the problems in RTÉ.
I disagree with almost every word of that, although I agree that there are far too many ads on RTE - at least half of them being governmental propaganda, mainly in Irish.
RTE is far from perfect - as is virtually every other organisation in Ireland, be it private or public. However, I'm happy to pay my 44 cent a day for the content that RTE (TV, radio, TG4 and Lyric FM) supplies to me.
They've got a better song and/or act. Ireland might not make the final this year. Also, RTÉ doesn't want to risk winning the contest. It would be epic if Israel won the contest this year — the meltdown would be glorious.
Yes. Why would little children's broken and burnt bodies matter to them.
They only matter to people with morals. Israel should be shunned, I don't know how much impact viewing figures have but imagine if everyone with a conscience just turned the TV off for 3-4 mins while the Israeli act is on. They deserve no less.
TG4 is not RTÉ, next you will be telling me RTÉ pay for the NSO!
And RTÉ this is a distraction they wasted money and at any time over the last year they could have asked that KAN be removed from the competition for that matter they could have called on KAN to be removed from the EBU.
There would be no impact. The Eurovision Song Contest 2024 reached 163 million viewers across the three live shows. Fortunately, the anti-Israeli and antisemitic movement remains a tiny minority throughout the rest of Europe. Based on the public vote in Ireland last year, where Israel placed second, the number of Irish people who would switch off would also be a tiny minority. In summary, it'd be another failed attempt by the pro-Palestine movement to spread hostility.
As I suspect you already know, RTE provides Nuacht TG4 to TG4. And that's the bit of RTE that my 43 cent a day helps to pay for.
