Kevin Bakhurst has said that RTÉ has asked the EBU for a discussion about Israel's inclusion in the Eurovision Song Contest (ESC).
How likely is it that Israel's contestant will banned from the ESC?
Plenty of people including myself support rte engaging in principles...
So "shut the fuk up" essentially.
If you don't agree with the majority just say nothing and keep quiet. Fuk morals it's all about being a quiet little sheep in the flock.
Israel isn't there by invitation, so you couldn't rescind their invitation—even if they committed genocide. Russia would be able to compete, but for the fact that its national broadcasters suspended their memberships in the European Broadcasting Union. I really didn't like the way Ukraine was handed the victory in the contest a few years ago. The UK were the real winners that night. It's a song contest and the best song and act should win. Politics should be put to one side for the duration of the contest.
No, Russia is banned because its national broadcasters suspended their European Broadcasting Union memberships, which organises the show, thereby preventing them from participating in future contests. This is not the case with Israel. It has nothing to do with Israel having significant influence in the West.
I'd suspect their participation wouldn't have been allowed even if they hadn't suspended their membership.
The fact that many people in this country don't share their hatred must be even more frustrating for them. Israel placed second in last year's public vote.
If Israel aren’t thrown out, I presume the lads in RTE will withdraw the Irish entry ?
no point protesting if you don’t protest ?
The ridiculous and unchecked expansion of the islamic hordes in this country isn't helping with the already traditionally high (by european standards) levels of anti-semitism in Ireland.
You can't go anywhere without tripping over allah's little helpers here.
Between them and the radical left here, it's a recipe for chaos.
Mod - warned for breach of forum charter
If Ireland do pull out they'd be doing the world a favor,.. if Israel stay in… a disservice
Ironic that you complain about alleged anti semitism while engaging in blatant anti Islamic rhetoric.
What anti-Semitism?
Is this the nonsense that being anti-Netanyahu's government meaning you are anti-Jews?
I think RTÉ staff should strike.
This is RTÉ staff looking for brownie points of the public nothing more nothing less, why didn't they bring it up a year ago.
This post is basically far right bingo, do you actually believe this or are you just uncritically regurgitating stuff you've seen on Facebook and Twitter?
But, but they have so many catch numbers, like this one:
I love the bit where the kids sing about annihilating Gazans and then going home to plough their newly stolen fields.
Douze points, for sure.
I am SHOCKED you would leap to the defence of Israel.
Are you a professional?
This is not the point at all.
In case you are not familiar with last year's Eurovision build up here is what happened.
The Irish entry, a transgender individual, was very vocal in their support for Palestine and their opposition to Israel being at the contest.
Which was ironic because as we all know that transgender individual would not in a million years be able to live their life the way they want in a Palestinian state, but would have been tolerated in Israel. anyway I digress.
There were also plenty in Ireland and on these boards giving out about Israel being part of the event, and there were all sorts of talk about the Israeli entry being booed, getting nul points etc in protest.
But as it turned out there was far more support for Israeli entry than the naysayers expected.
So much so that they won the popular vote.
Certain elements of the Irish population were surprised that the rest of Europe seemingly supported the Israeli entry.
I feel the same will be the case this year.
Ya I remember last year where the Isreali team were stalking and targeting fellow competitors backstage.
I also remember the very political voting for the bang average song which actually surprised very few. No one in Ireland is surprised that others disagree but to shut up like you want because of that would make us cowards and sheep.
Doing the right thing should never be dependent on being popular.
On your point about a transgender person not being able to live their lives in Palestine, and by extension you mean Muslim societies in general, you might remember that most lads aren't getting laid unless they are married, it's with a prostitute, or another man. There's been a culture of drag artists and cross dressing sex workers been going on there for hundreds of years and it was the subject of much fascination from Western male tourists. Edward Said has much to say on the matter.
This notion that every Muslim society is as fundamentalist as the Taliban is an absolute nonsense, just like it is a nonsense to think that Israelis are free to criticise their own government or laws. Anti-war protestors in Israel are being sacked from their jobs, beaten, spat at in the streets and evicted from their homes.
Please.
Let's not pretend a Palestinian state would be a good place for LGBTQ+ people like Bambi Thug.
Please let's not pretend you give a sht about or tolerate the trans community.
Your lot would love if Ireland banned them. It clearly made the likes of you sick that Bambi was popular.
And lets not pretend that the current Israeli state of emergency is anything even remotely resembling a democracy.
very little anti semitism here. Lots of anti actions of the Israeli government.
Why do people make out that anti semitic is worse than genocide.
The popular vote was organised by the Isreal and Jewish propaganda office. You may be sure every Jew I. Europe and beyond voted at least 10 times.
i do tolerate the trans community.
But I don't give a s**t about a conflict a thousand miles away or the people from either side involved in it.
If I did I'd have to give a s**t about other conflicts and I am really more interested in my own life and my own family to care to much about much else.
If you care so little why bother posting on a thread about it?
Just laughing at the Irish pro Palestinian crowd
Mod Edit: Warned for trolling
Ok so just a substance-less, childish reason.
How can you nor be disgusted at children being starved to death and the so called moral west letting it happen?
Even the Choctaw Nation sent aid to the other side of the world back then. Some people actually have empathy.
Yeah, LOL empathy. Solidarity? Hahaha.
Not sure how any human could laugh at any aspect of this, whichever "side" they're on.
Was Ireland’s entrant last year transgender?
