I had 1 on a load 2 years ago they are generally not cattle I would buy,he would have weighed over 400kg cold so that's obviously why I got no bonus.
Has anyone heard are prices really back in the factories… the mart prices look to be holding up ok…
they’ve pulled them all right but 7.60/7.70 still available and big tightening coming cattle aren’t there factories fairly worried about supplies for next few months
They're trying to pull the price but I've been told they'll still pay good money for good continental cattle.
Tight pinch coming in May/June 9e on the table was told tonight again I Don't have a crystal ball.
Heard the same myself, knoe two agents that have their own cattle ready to sell but they are waiting
Any prices this week?
I see the journal saying another 10c pulled.
I've 4 approaching 30 months now, should I let them go or hold off?
Maybe I should let them off in the mart
Factories struggling to hold onto.lower bases according to Indo. Quoted bases are 7.4 but 7.7/7.8 are achievable. Flat prices still available for numbers.
If they are out on grass you have options if in a shed I be looking for a price from the factory and see whether they or mart are the better option
Locked up with TB.
I can sell without restriction to the factory? Dont even have to tell the agent? No extra paperwork needed?
Still will have to deal with procurement in the factory,. Some will kill on different days for locked up cattle. it used to be a china job that these cattle couldn't come in contact with. Only difference is a few boxes to be ticked on a form
The agent says to hold off, they're not full next week and he sees the price coming back up again fairly soon.
I might lose 8c on the QA but I can send bigger numbers and if it goes back up 10c I'll be ok.
Question is now could I let them out to good grass and keep the meal up or will they lose condition quickly?
I would disregard what the agent says as he has no idea what future quotes will be available, I don't think there is any sense in letting fit cattle coming up on 30 mths out on grass so if they were mine I would mart them in a spot where northern factory's are represented.
He deals with a few factories, I'll let him have a look anyway and see what's on offer.
I'll keep them in on meal and silage.
Best of luck with your cattle.
Would factory fit cattle loose much weight if they were let out on grass for a couple of weeks…?
They wouldn't especially if they have been finished for 90 daysor less they would go from strength to strength but in my opinion I wouldn't see any point in losing part of the QA if they are now fit at a time of a falling market, not too say that it will keep falling but we are dealing with Larry Badman not mother Teresa.
I have sent away cattle from a restricted herd on a number of occasions . Mentioned that I was restricted to the agent once. He said it made no difference . I never mentioned it again after that. They are loaded with cattle from various herds . No issues .
Yes, I never had any problem with sending cattle to the factory when restricted. The only time I ever had to fill anything in about it on a form was for the reactor cattle. Buy maybe a factory like Donegal where they were killing for China would have an issue with it.
When cattle go out on grass after Winter they will gain carcase weight right away; because of lower gut fill due to rich grass their live weight may decline. Years ago I read that it took 19 days for their livewt to equalize.
So anyone kill the past few days or is everyone holding or heading to the mart 🤔
Nothing killed yet, heard 7.6 for heifers, 7.5 for bullocks, 25c/ kg bonus on HE have got be under 30 months and 30c on AA. Not sure if there uis more available
At that kind of money you would want 4.3/4.4 LW in the mart to match it.
Bass! Me heart! I thought the arse had fallen out of it going by that post! 😂
Sorry edited it. That is what I am hearing anyway. However in last week's Journal there beef price tracker indicated that average prices paid are substantially above that. Contracted and there own feedlots must be being paid a base of 8/ kg
Ya thanks bass i was going off the journal talk as well but I don't think them prices they talk about are widely available YET (there is more than factories are quoting)but agent for cows says to hold for another week yet he's sees a good tightening coming.
Heard that from an agent as well to hold cattle. Numbers stack that way it's costing 1.7/day feeding costs and 5+ on flesh going on them
I have cull cows I think il chance them in the mart next week.

This could be the problem,
These sold in local mart today.
These are my heifers I sold in Carnaross today, great trade. I definitely wasn’t expecting them to make as much with the recent factory price cuts…
Jesus that's great money.
Northern buyers or local factory men?
