If he's desperate to play for them then the player could always forfeit the wages he would have been paid by Liverpool.
Ideally it would work like this, but I don’t think so in practice, really there’s not much the club can do about it.
Maybe Trent signs a deal with a release clause, but it really doesn’t benefit him to do so, Madrid will give him a bumper contract without a transfer fee. And Madrid could easily signal to Trent that if the fee is too big they’ll look elsewhere. And if Liverpool were determined to get a fee for him they would have let him go already.
I think it’s just going to be the reality for top players from now on if they feel they can get a move they want. They won’t have any shortage of offers and will get a huge bonus out of it too. The last thing they’ll want is to be in Kanes position a few years ago where he wanted to move but Spurs simply wouldn’t entertain any offers.
Tickets already easier to get past couple of years and atmosphere noticeably worse. That's after 2 stands got expanded.

Liverpool need an Azpilicuetta type of player in defense. Someone capable of playing across the back line. Basically a fit Joe Gomez.
I don't agree about the atmosphere. I get over quite a bit and it has definitely improved massively under Klopp and Slot.
Hodgson era was grim. End of Rodgers era wasn't great either.
Same - i get over 4 to 6 times a season and atmosphere is brilliant.
