New season so time to open the spring thread.
Will we get an improvement from the previous two stinkers? Time will tell.
A mostly cloudy and dry start in Dublin 13 with any rain spreading southeast fizzling out.
15C Glorious sunshine in this part of Leitrim. Beautiful afternoon.
Thunderstorm with plenty of lightning just east of Bantry
23 degrees at Cork Airport at 4.30pm

Wherever YR .no has been getting its data from it’s been incredibly pessimistic today - kept forecasting rain and cloud that hasn’t shown up and far lower temps than reality.
Beautiful evening in Galway. The day has improved as it went which I didn't expect.
I love May, I love this month. It's even irregardless of the weather. It's like nature spreads it's wings, flexes her muscles.
The day are getting so much longer in the mornings and evenings. It's the growth, the month being called after Maia, the Greek Goddess of growth and fertility.
Length of days plateau in June, July begins the decline in day length. June and July will be warmer. (There might be the odd historical May warmer than June).
But May is always growing, in every way, and it brings so much promise of what might be in store in Summer. The brightness of the gardens and wild flowers. It's the direct opposite, in most ways, of November.
Well said Sir. I wholeheartedly agree.
The last 2 Mays were good. Dry and warm. 2024 had well below average sunshine but it was the warmest on record.
May 1992 would probably be my favourite, a very warm month. I was 16 and a few nice sporting memories. That age where you can play a few matches or do a few sports events in the one day and energy's on tap. Knees struggle to last 70 or 90 minutes these days!
The HP is going to stay near us and we'll warm up midweek again. Get the silage done, possibly the earliest for us, a hill farm.
It's weird but I just noticed your signature. Earlier I was singing the Simon&Garfunkel song "April Come She Will" to myself and trying to remember what they said about May!
May, she will stay, Resting in my arms again
Beautiful evening out. Having a bit of grub outdoors
Brilliant! More cheerful than my signature!
Warm in the south
Very hazy today in north Tipp, but oodles of sunshine, so a very nice day.
A nice sky this evening after sunset:
The moon is clearly visible:
I felt like I was the only one who enjoyed May 2024! It's a guilty pleasure. I really enjoyed it despite the terrible sunshine. I don't know, any sun it did have seemed nicely spread out and it didn't feel as dull as some other dull months have which we were no stranger to in 2024. Then of course the fact it was often much warmer than average including by day, not just night.
In other news, a hosepipe ban has been issued for Kells/Oldcastle, Meath from next week… as well as Milford, Donegal and Mullingar.
Lough Owel near Mullingar reportedly at its lowest level in 50 years (1975 - the great drought). Nearby Mullingar station is at under 50% of its average rainfall for the current hydrological year (Oct-Sep) whereas it should be around 62% at this point. That is very dry.
Not too surprised at the issue of a hosepipe ban here given these rainfall deficits.
And very low to no rainfall being projected by the models out to 10 days .
I am not surprised there is a hosepipe ban in Meath. Take Dunsany - it received 11mm of rain for all of March (driest on record) and first half of April. The rain that came at Easter was very heavy for a few days which just leads to swollen rivers and fast runoff. You need more sustained rain over longer periods to build up reservoirs. Before April, Dunsany recorded below average rainfall every single month all the way back to May 2024 with some months getting 30mm+ below average (e.g. December 2024 got 48mm, average is 83mm, June 2024 = 35mm, average = 69mm). The most damning statistic of all is that Gonzo's use of the word "deluge" is 35% down on previous years.
Dublin Airport also showed a similar pattern although January 2025 was slightly above average rainfall. It had a very dry May-August last year.
Beautiful day around Tralee about 14 - 15C, bit fresher than of late but doesn't detract from the great day.
Ireland to be the driest country in Europe (and probably also the sunniest) over the next 8 days. Not often you see that!
If there's a bustle in your hedgerow, don't be alarmed now...
It's just a spring clean for the May Queen.
Stunning afternoon in Leitrim. 15C and Sun.
The Emerald Isle indeed
17⁰ Sunny in Meath. Wasn't expecting such a good day as knew some cooler changes. Must be more in to the weekend. Kids have a match in Ashbourne. Trés warm even at this time.
Sunny. Meath
Beautiful day in Dublin again today with wall to wall blue skies this evening, I was expecting the cloud rolling in yesterday afternoon to be the end of the nice spell but today is every bit as nice, a few degrees colder maybe but sheltered from the breeze it's still feeling very warm.
A fantastic spring so far aside from the ~10 day blip in mid April
Yes even in Sligo where we have had possibly the most of the rain I've noticed that the majority of it fell that time around Easter and a week here or there in other months. Sofor example if we are 18 weeks into the year (I'm not sure) only about 4 of these weeks have been wet in Sligo all the rest very dry.
Looked further into it and our rain in 2025 is like steps. January 2025 dry first half a bit of rain from middle to end. February dry first half a bit of rain middle to end. March dry first half a bit of rain 20th to 25th. April very dry first 2 weeks. Rain middle and dry end.
Another glorious day in Cork
Delighted...We have a Communion tomorrow week...so happy for the children and families that it will be dry and outdoorable with the bouncy castles. Woop woop!
Didn't take long from 7pm sunshine and warmth to feel cool after 8pm
Was A stunning sunset alongside the cooler evening.
