Not really sure what this guy did to deserver jail time. Looked through her phone, asked her to do a lie detector test, made some bizarre accusations to her friends.
I would probably have dumped him instead of going to the guards.
Seems a bit harsh but we probably don't have all the details.
This is probably an unpopular opinion, but ladies, stop picking these weirdos!!!
you say you don’t have all the facts , but decide to comment your opinion anyway?!?!
"We probably don't have all the details."
Yet you feel the need to give your tuppance downplaying his behaviour.
Great work.
"In August of 2022, after the couple had fully separated, Tyrrell contacted a national newspaper journalist outlining what the court heard was "false information" of domestic violence and financial abuse by a Sinn Féin politician.
"He sent a screengrabs of these emails to Ms Funchion and threatened to provide the journalist with her name if she did not agree to a number of demands which included taking the lie detector test and arranging a meeting with party leader Mary Lou McDonald."

But sure he did nothing wrong here - he only asked to look through the phone.
Enough information in the newspapers to warrant discussion. Do you just go around nit picking or might you have an opinion on the matter worth sharing?
Who said he didn't do anything wrong?
I never said it didn't warrant a discussion?
Just you made a comment that he did nothing wrong to warrant jail time, even though he was sentenced for four months.
What he did is clearly a sustained level of harassment. This is why so many women feel like they can't speak up against their partners, because men like you will just try to pick them apart.
Read the report from the Examiner, who were actually at the sentencing as it includes a lot more detail about what the court heard. I highlighted one particular line in my post above.
Wecome to Boards.
Nothing to say about how he did more than just 'looked through the phone and asked for a lie detector test'?
Course you don't. You'd rather downplay the man's behaviour.
You don't seem to get it. The question was do we think jail time is warranted in this case. As I said it appears a bit harsh on the face of it.
Why wouldn’t it be warranted?
He put her up to a sustained level of harassment.
You said she could just leave him. She did, and he then wrote to journalists falsely accusing ‘a Sinn Fein politician’ of domestic and financial abuse, and then threatened her that he would say it’s her unless she agreed to his demands.
Why should he walk free after that?
Anyone in a violent relationship should get out at the earliest stage possible. Things won't improve.
I definitely don't disagree but the psychological element can make it very difficult to leave I imagine.
This also isn't going to be very popular but alot of women seem to have absolutely appalling taste in men and seem to end up with scumbags who most others could spot a mile away.Surely when he started wanting access to her phone and her to take a lie detector test that was the chance to get the hell out of there.
what you think doesn’t matter, the case has been heard in court and the verdict has been given…what’s your agenda?
…”as he continuously alleged that Ms Funchion was being unfaithful to him.”
The newspaper article you included contains the above - it also contains the information that he started alleging her friends were having affairs - maybe next time read the article
There was no question. You're wriggling now.
Also, anyone saying 'just leave'.
That is when women in abusive relationships feel they are in their biggest danger. See Jenny Poole and Nadine Lott. Both of them left, and they ended up dead.
It's very easy for people to try and look at them and tell them they should have done things differently. Go be judgemental somewhere else.
When you're explaining you're losing. Your OP reflects very poorly on your attitude to women to say the least.
'Looked through her phone'. That is enough in itself to tell you it was Coco.
So you think accusing someone of cheating warrants jail time?
IBTL at this stage…
A stiff fine or community service would be more applicable. Kyle Hayes nearly killed someone in an assault and put many lives in danger driving like a mad man and he didn't do time.
When they coerce her into taking a lie detector test and insist on coercive behaviour by checking her phone- yes absolutely- don’t you?
He didn't get prison for just that though, did he?
Conveniently you keep ignoring the part where he blackmailed her AFTER she left him.
Keep downplaying **** behaviour by men.
Alice Ruggles for anyone who thinks 'just leave' is the solution too. Still breaks my heart.
Well abusers don't make it obvious that they're abusers until much later, as it's hardly something they're going to attract others with!
Let's blame the abuser rather than the victim.
“Let's blame the abuser rather than the victim.”
Indeed- when I see posts such as the above you quoted, it tells me we still have a long way to go, no matter how much progress we think we’ve made
No, there are plenty plenty with women who get involved with men that are known to be dodge. And go from one scumbag to the next.
And plenty plenty women who’ll excuse, defend, ignore, lie and cover for these scumbags. I feel desperately sorry for any woman suffering at the hands of a scumbag. and it has nothing to do with victim blaming.
Her ex-husband is David Cullinane. I wouldn't say he is a scumbag, would you?
How do you know the background to this? I'm from the area and he was only ever seen as a sound fella.
you would say Cuillinane is a scumbag?
