Starting a thread for 2025 gigs as they'll likely start rolling in.
I'll arbitrarily throw in Rob Beckett playing the Olympia on the 26th September 2025 which went on sale today.
Lads. Let's not.
Fontaines headlining Glastonbury, bad and all as recent Glastonbury headliners are, I dont think Fontaines are anywhere near headline status.
This is fair haha
Maybe not but we're talking about two years away when they've another album out. They've no issue selling 45k tickets in a few hours for a the Finsbury Park gig and 30k for their Wythenshawe Park gig in Manchester. Last three albums top 2 in the UK, 7m monthly streams and rising plus they have momentum. It may not last but I'd be surprised if they weren't being considered.
At best they could do marley with a few decent supports, they would need a massive breakthrough album to sell the aviva or above and as big as you think they are they simply are not a household name
A sentiment i think most of us can agree on.
Think they'll keep growing and won't fall down the leagues like Picture This
I heard he got into music in recent years, must check out his Tommy Tiernan interview, a great actor, no doubt, but i’l pass on the live gigs
Saw the song he played on the Tiernan show, was quite good actually once he got going (though the orchestra helped)
I think they will, they sold out Finsbury Park 9 months in advance while 2 Ally Pally shows were still yet to happen. Very much of the moment and certainly broke through to the mainstream with Romance. Can't stop seeing people who absolutely wouldn't have given them a second listen on Dogrel putting Favourite on their Instagram now. A Hyde Park show and Glastonbury is very much on the cards provided their next album doesn't totally bomb.
Saying the best they could do is Marlay Park is laughable after the Belfast show sold out like it did and I think they already could play the Aviva, with the right promotion.
The 3 Arena shows went on sale when Romance was announced, they have grown exponentially since then
Don't really understand how there's a ceiling on the type of music they play, its rock music and rock music is well supported.
Yeah, Fontaines, by luck or design, have really hit the sweet spot. Critical acclaim, loved by most of the music press, respect of their peers, politically on message and now embraced by the tiktok generation and lots of cool celebs. Whoever has charted their ascent has done a bang up job. Not slagging them, I think they're great but they know what they're at. Pyramid stage a totally realisable dream I'd say.
Was watching MobLand (I know I know, I'm ashamed) last night, huge audience and Starbuster as the theme music. It'll take a pretty poor album to halt the momentum and nothing about the band's progression implies that'll happen.
Yep for all the music their management has been absolutely top notch. I certainly wasn’t expecting Romance to do half as well as it’s ended up doing (not to say I thought it would be unsuccessful, just that realistically I doubt anyone expected it to do as well as it has). Everything has went as well as it could. Think Covid helped them a lot too because they’ve been playing far behind their demand since then so it sort of creates extra demand then.
Also on trailer for Havoc on Netflix which is pretty big for them too
Tom Hardy insisting on it? Bad reports on the movie btw.
Really good musicians especially for early 80's Punk/American hardcore. They should have been the forth of the big four - retrospectively looking Anthrax were shyte. Slayer in the venue with the terrible bar 2014.
Is he a fan yeah? Watched it this evening, fairly woeful alright.
No idea, was my poor attempt at humour given Starbuster is used in both MobLand & Havoc with the other common factor being TH.
More likely the Mobland use is down to Ronan Bennett (Top Boy, Hamburg Cell) and Anthony Byrne (Love/Hate, Peaky Blinders). Series is entertaining if you can abide the accents of Brosnan & Mirren.
Fontaines stuff (2/3 tracks) also appeared in the last Andrea Arnold movie six months ago (starred Barry Keoghan and Burial scored it) and we can probably expect a lot more of this.
Apologies for going off-topic (again)😁. No more posting on screen stuff.
I'm afraid that's my take, too! Was told I must be lacking in any happiness/joy, as a result, somewhere in here!
+1 here. I don't get CMAT at all.
They are getting better and better .
I am old ! and I know lots of people young and old who absolutely love them
Romance is better than Skinty Fia which was a great album.
They would sell out any large venue here and probably UK at this stage .
Delighted for them .
Obituary and Testament in Olympia on 9th October
these new puritans in workmans
I am delighted for them too. And I have been following them for years. Romance and Skinta Fia are brilliant albums.
But there is no way they would fill Croke Park or the Aviva. They had a couple of nights in 3Arena before Christmas, and it was easy to get tickets for them. Fontaines have a very dedicated fan base who absolutely adore them, but I think it is fair to say that their music is not the most accessible music. By that, I mean that if one of their tunes comes on the radio, it's not going to turn the head of a "neutral" listener - someone who doesn't really know them, but listens to music in general. Their type of music is music that requires a couple of listens for it to sink in.
Those big arena type gigs are attended by a lot of casual fans who know a couple of songs of the bigger bands and are there mainly for the night out e.g. Bruce with Born in the USA or Born to Run, ACDC with Thunderstruck, Garth with Friends in Low Places, Taylor Swift tunes, Ed Sheeran with his radio friendly songs, Coldplay for Yellow (and luminous stuff). Those type of gigs with attract 50k plus of people, but mainly for the occasion that's in it. I don't think that would happen with Fontaines. There are about 60 people in my workplace. Some have never heard of them. Some are aware of them, but not a huge interest. And a handful would go to their gigs. Whereas if any of the above mentioned artists were playing, there would be a buzz around the office about getting tickets.
If there's a buzz about the office for Ed Sheeran and Garth Brooks there's a strong possibility that you and I will never be colleagues. Sorry 'bout that.
I think I know what flasher means - not that the whole office is into ES or GB but that it's water cooler talk, and people singing a line or two in work as a joke.
Are you surprised that there would be more buzz around Ed Sheeran and Garth Brooks than, say, Fontaines?
Another mention for the showcase at the Roisin on Thur as it got a mention in the Irish Times on Sat. If undecided this will be a goodie.
In general no, but it also depends on the workplace. Over the decades I've worked in pubs, language schools, legal offices and a newspaper. None of those ever had a buzz about a bland artist.
