Starting a thread for 2025 gigs as they'll likely start rolling in.
I'll arbitrarily throw in Rob Beckett playing the Olympia on the 26th September 2025 which went on sale today.
Interesting they're saying plan is to host only 50-70 odd events a year. If that's including regular ice hockey and other sports doesn't seem like there would be a huge amount of gigs there but interesting to see how it works out when built.
Another venue for Dublin 😒
tbh 30 or 40 concerts would seem about right in the 5000 range. Those summer outdoor shows in iveagh, trinity, fairview and Collins barracks will still happen.
Fontaines Belfast sold out already @ 40k capacity. Aviva next summer for them surely? Marlay Park would be too small at this rate
Fair play
in fairness kneecap major ticket seller for that. Should have been jointly billed show. Fontaines winding up tour after Belfast show. Handful of festival shows next year and then another album in 2027
Think it helped that kneecap were also on the bill
Will never materialise.
190m cost for 5k capacity is bonkers.
Doesn't seem very viable to have less than 1 gig a week but maybe they'd make money as conference and sports venue
co op in Manchester was €550m for 20k or so capacity and a multi use sports/concert probably adds a lot
I'm assuming this venue will be part funded by sports Ireland or government entity? Hosting events like concerts will help offset the costs for the sporting events.
Kinda like the national stadium?
there is 54 games per season in that hockey league so that’s 30 home games. Add another concert or two a week to the mix or other event and maybe you get a reasonably busy venue
No mention of government involvement. Strictly private investors. Its main tenant will be hockey team owned by those investors. I’m sure they will rent it out on terms to sports ireland etc.
national stadium is privately owned as well by Irish amateur boxing association who don’t receive funding from government for it. They receive grants for sports equipment and clubs up and down the island.
Oh christ here we go again
Was in Vegas for WrestleMania last week and we think Irish prices are bad. It's next level over there. Didn't spend less than $10 on a drink. Like Dublin there's 'cheaper places' but ya know
I remember that a pint can in barclays was $22 last time I went. Wouldn’t be drinking at concerts there
Concerts will only be a side-gig. It's main purpose is a sports venue. Doubt it would even do 1 gig a week tbh, it's listed as having upto 8k standing capacity, so not sure why LN/MCD would someone would be put there rather than a curtained-off 3Arena, but will likely get some use as a gig venue every now and again.
Looks good in the plans anyway:
https://www.primearenaholdings.com/dublin-arena
What is really needed is an indoor venue that is scalable from 3k-5k depending on act, which is suitable for musical acts that do multiple nights in Olympia/Vicar Street, or comedy acts that do several nights in the likes of Vicar Street, but are not at curtained-off 3Arena level. Can't help but think that Vicar Street have missed a trick by having two separate venues that max out at 2k per event, rather than one venue which can be configured up to 3.2k (plus probably another few hundred who would have fit in the glass bit between the venues)….
Is the Vicar Street plan going ahead ?
nah. Harry crosbie got planning permission last December for the hotel on the site of the proposed bigger vicar st site. The vicar st quarter plan was just a backup plan if planning for the hotel feel through. think he is just looking for hotel investor to come on board to throw money and start the building work
Same for Toronto too, ridiculous prices for drink and they only let you take 2 drinks in per person in the Scotiabank arena which is pain if there's more than two in your group, even if the 3rd drink is a non alcoholic beer they still won't give it to you.
New Viagra Boys is so good.
Nice to get a new album dropping the week before a gig. Should be a good one.
Ah marlay would be plenty big for them, kneecap probably sold half those tickets
Disagree, Fontaines are waaaay past Marlay now and didn't need Kneecap to sell out the Belfast gig.
Any more news on Suicidal Tendencies playing here?
Maren Morris for national stadium Nov 3rd
ah they did. Kneecap deffo help sell half of those tickets
I'd disagree they are way past marlay. It's 40k capacity.
they will be doing arenas on next album tour
Doubt it, Marlay Park is up to 40k. Biggest gigs Fontaines have done here are did two nights in the 3Arena (26k), at under €50 a pop, the second night taking a few weeks to sell out IIRC. Definitely a few days, as I got mine the week after they went on sale.
Even with increased popularity since then, it hasn't increased significantly so, and there's a ceiling on fans of the type of music they play. No promoter is going to risk hiring the Aviva and hope they sell 55k. Marlay would be the biggest a promoter would risk, and even then I very much doubt they'd sell it out.
Kneecap could easily do 20k on their own in Belfast, if not more, so today's sell out is kind of meaningless to gauge Fontaines popularity for a gig in Dublin or elsewhere.
Yea i don't think they'd even do Marlay on their own never mind waaay past it!
They're surely on a shortlist to headline Glasto 2027 and I'm unsure why there's some underestimation of their ability to sell tickets over here and in the UK. Kneecap helped as a hometown band in Belfast and have been a good addition to the Finsbury Park gig but 88,000 ticket for those two shows sold out cos of the Fonts and I'm pretty certain they'd have no issue filling Marlay or the Aviva this Summer.
