New Thread to continue discussion for General Premier League. Old thread closed.
An entire PL squad gathered together to watch the game, with cameras on them, because of the potential outcome
The result not mattering to you doesn't = the result not mattering
Sorry mattered to Arsenal I mean, of course it mattered to Liverpool. Not particularly salty about this season as we have been a long way behind a very impressive Liverpool side. Last season a lot more so, in no small part due to a certain 115 alleged charges, a pain Liverpool fans know well too I'm sure.
Sorry I meant mattered to Arsenal, there was a lot of talk about how second place could've been secured and so forth.
Ah fair enough. I agree that main thing for Arsenal was no new injuries
Vardy to leave Leicester, I wonder does he go abroad for a final pay day.
£1m for 495 games, 198 goals, Premier League title, FA Cup.
Amazing transfer.
I would have no problem with Arsenal being awarded those titles.
Certainly I would like to see Liverpool get theirs as well.
Nah. United would 2 more but I'd hate to see them awarded to anyone. Just leave the years blank as a permanent reminder of their cheating.
I'd say the players/managers who missed out would disagree 😂
Imagine the material Mourinho would have from being awarded another title!
In news that will surprise absolutely nobody, Chelsea likely paid Hazards agent millions of pounds under the table for him to join them.
The mad thing in that story is how the agent got £6m from Chelsea, then quit being Hazard's agent, bought a Belgian lower league club in a deal with a Dubai shell company that likely never existed, became chairman of the club, installed HIMSELF as the head coach, finished TOP of the Belgian 2nd division, but couldnt get promoted because of financial irregularities preventing them from getting a license to play top flight and so the 70 year old club is dissolved completely and the madlad jumps off to the UAE and lies low for a few years before his arrest for money laundering and forgery
Netflix, do your thing!
pretty weird as well that Belgium authorities arent confirming his whereabouts or even his status.
The man should be in prison for destroying a local club.
Do you think the result mattered on whether Liverpool win the title? Do you think if Arsenal won against Crystal Palace last night that it would have meant Liverpool were going to miss out on the title this season?
It had zero effect on the outcome of the league winners this year, so therefore, the result did indeed not matter.
Things can matter for different reasons. The reason this one had some significance was not for where the title would end up, but rather how it would be won and celebrated, and what coverage would follow the game, and what would cover the news cycle over the following days.
Nobody was 'twisting in knots' here trying to argue that Liverpool were going to miss out on the title if Liverpool won, as you're trying to claim
It's clear and obvious that anybody talking about last night's result mattering meant whether they get to pop the champagne on a Wednesday (Tuesday for you) night as opposed to keeping it in the fridge until this weekend for the next chance
That's all. You're inferring behaviour on this thread that simply wasn't there last night. Go re-read what was being said.
One of the best ever Premiership players. Unreal scoring for an unfashionable team. Proven totally correct in hindsight to turn down Arsenal in 2016. A good lesson for other players jumping ship when playing well and paid more money than they can spend anyway for the greedy 6.
And won a league medal which he wouldn't of done with Arsenal
WWinger came for him after 2016 so in a way you are right, Arsenal won no more than Leinster from 2016-2022
That's my point. Why would either side go all-out in a nothing game?
Great to see their interest in Arsenal. Lots of closets it seems.
Tbf if he had joined Arsenal, he would have won 2 more charity shields than he has now!
i agree with the first part of your post but Riyad Mahrez would disagree with the second part. Two Leicester legends and it went pretty well for mahrez post leicester too.
People wanted to see if Palace could win last night. They were tuning in to see if Palace could win, not Arsenal
This isn't difficult to grasp, Palace winning would have meant Liverpool were Champions yesterday.
I think this has to be bad faith arguments at this stage for whatever reason people have because it should be obvious why so many people wanted to watch yesterday and what it would have meant if PALACE won.
The same people arent going to be tuning in to Arsenal v Bournemouth next week unless Spurs win on Sunday and that game matters to Liverpool
So no one watches any match except for the reason of how it can affect Liverpool?
Riiiiiight!
Nope. Didn't say that.
But last night's game mattered to Liverpool and their fans, riiiight?
Kanté too, another league title and a Champions League
You said "They were tuning in to see if Palace could win, not Arsenal" - so yes. You said exactly that.
Yes - they being the people mentioned from this forum who wouldn't normally tune into Arsenal games. Liverpool supporters.
Feels like we're going round in circles here, who else did the game matter to last night that would cause them to watch a game with 2 teams they don't support?
Or are you buying this 'closet Arsenal fan' theory which I took as tongue in cheek
Who are the posters here you say were going in knots trying to say it matters last night? And do you still not understand that the league could literally have been won based on the outcome of the game?
Point taken on Mahrez. However I would add that Pep didn't use him enough for the first 2 years, it's almost like he didn't trust him. And in the end Mahrez was sold very fast almost as soon as he was established and playing his best season for Man City. I would argue that his 1 title with Leicester under the circumstances is worth more than the multiples one he won at City.
What is about Liverpool, UTD and Arsenal fans getting up in arms when mentioned in here. It's the general premier league thread, and yous are the 3 biggest clubs. What do you expect??
