Home Store + More has closed all its UK stores, including its UK Website.
The Irish stores appear to be safe for now.
But better hurry, because when all the UK stores are gone, they're gone.
Brilliant!
After 8 years you'd think Galway Coco would leave them alone.
I thought it was just the Scotland stores
Big loss. Seems they never had planning, they should have at least applied for retention once it took off.
Presumably they knew they wouldn't get it, so didn't bother.
Planning rules exist for a reason.
I hope they find a suitable premises to run a food business in.
Galway Bay and Irish Times seem to be the only place reporting on the fact they never had planning permission.
Everything else is just quotes from the outraged and vague references to "planning decisions".
It’s not always clear that planning permission is definitely required. Stating that they had “no planning permission” as if not to have such permission is some way errant is not correct or fair. There have been many many cases where the local authority states that planning permission is required, but court cases and/or An Bord Pleanala subsequently clarify that it is not.
I could understand that for a genuine food truck that trades in a place for a few hours and then drives away.
But this shack was erected and left in place in a sensitive, scenic place all summer. It needed planning.
Yes, but leaving it 8 years was stupid. Should've been shut down 8 years ago
And I suppose that’s a point at issue in this case. One side sees it as a truck, the other as a development. I’d wonder who owned the site on which they “parked” and who made the complaint on which the Council acted.
They’d have been getting nervous time wise -

It's not a truck though. It was a truck at one point, but they transformed it into a structure a long way back.
I have nothing against the place, but it seems really dishonest on the owners to take to social media and make out they were "shot down" as if planning was rejected…..when no planning application was ever made in the first place.
I would guess they never applied because they knew they would never get permission in that place for something like that. Be it right or wrong, but they never even tried.
It's definitely not a food truck. It was initially but grew into a whole facility with seating, car park and toilets in recent years. Didn't see the toilets yet this year.
This video of the "rebuild" for 2025 with the structure being craned in probably didn't help;

Huge loss but unfair for the owners to be crying victim despite not even applying for planning. I would be surprised if they didn't receive warnings before it moved to closure notices too.
My kids are older now but, even when they had just picked up a crayon for the first time and were trying to draw a truck or a car, wheels were always an essential element. The body might just have consisted of a badly drawn rectangle but, if it was to be a truck, they definitely drew wheels. If a two year old knows this then it's not credible to claim that adults could be in any doubt about it.

Please don't take headlines from the utter rag Galway beo who will turn ANYTHING into some scaremongering crap.
They had 2 stores in Scotland. Always outliers and even had different ranges to here. They were two left from the days Argos bought a shareholding with a plan to open dozens in the UK. Argos had its own issues, Sainsbury's bought argos, and the closed all the English & Welsh homestore stores that were operated by argos. The Irish guys bought back the shareholding argos had and kept the 2 Scottish stores just in case they'd enter the UK themselves.
Simply made a decision that they will not be going down that route and therefore close the 2 UK stores purely as a business decision.
Within the trade it was surprising that they continued with the 2 stores in Scotland for so long. Possibly they were tied into leases until recently.
But the utter rag that is galway beo and its associated rags (part of the daily muck group) create a scaremongering headline that has absolutely zero connection to the actual reason.
Slow news week. Read back on this thread a bit: the work started several months ago.
They must be watching Reddit for the pulse of the Galway people
Item was mentioned on RnaG local nuacht today. Little must be happening for them to mention
Tree Bark in Moycullen closing next month….
Personal decision by the owners who've been "presented with an opportunity for a better work life balance".
"Yours" in Galway Shopping Centre is closing next week, on the first of May.
Outdoor street dining returns from 16/05
“When there’s more people on the streets having a nice time together, it’s also great for safety in terms of civic policing of the streets. When there’s more people out and about, there’s less crime. Pedestrianisation and street closures have had such a positive effect on the Westend and in Galway as a whole. It’s something we would love to see on a more permanent basis."
