I'm not sure about that as Waterford airport still delivers a substantial service.
Rescue 117 is a crucial service to the South East and without Waterford airport it would be located else where.
The next generation pilots are also be trained from Waterford airport with Atlantic Flight Training School.
As is the next generation of airline staff from International Academy of Travel.
An airport can be more than just commerical services and I have stated this in the past, Waterford airport is already functional why not give it the few million and allow it to operator without one hand tied behind it's back.
Is already has the required Cat9 fire service, operational needs etc all it's missing is a couple of meters of runway, the government will blow money left right and center why not here for once.
Yawn, he also said he would run 2 daily flights a day if it had a functional runway. MOL will say what he wants to best suit MOL.
hes full of sh1t alright, but when ryanair works, it works, you have to hand it to them, but i wouldnt trust them as far as you can throw them though
I mean Ryanair fly to Kerry airport whick is slightly closer to ORK/SNN than Waterford is to DUB/ORK. Based on this, one would assume that they'd put something onto Waterford too if the runway actually gets done.
Ryanair sell frankfurt hahn airport like it's in frankfurt!!!
Hahn airport is 130km outside frankfurt with a motorway.
I'm sure o Leary could sell Waterford airport as Dublin south if he really wanted to but he won't because he clearly has gripe with people from here and just wants to remain Dublin centric which in the long run is doing huge damage economically to this island as things on this island badly need to be decentralised from Dublin.
Such bitterness.… 😂😂😂😂
Typical too ......
No bitterness just facts!
There's not going to be a second airport built in the greater Dublin area. It's just not going to happen, it's not needed, and doesn't offer any benefit to airlines

"Outside of Cork, Mr. Salemi also confirmed bosses are considering adding a new direct flight between Shannon and Amsterdam. He mentioned no other plans for other Munster airports."
You were hardly expecting to see WAT mentioned? These announcements won’t happen until we have a complete and functioning runway extension.
No, I wasn’t? I’m just sharing some news about the airport.. There isn’t much media attention about the airport, so I’d thought I’d share one I saw that I thought was interesting.
Fairly irrelevant in fairness.
The suggestion of Ryanair advertising Frankfurt Hahn as Frankfurt meaning that Waterford can be advertised as Dublin is hilarious. Getting whackier by the day in here!
How much money would the airport bring into the city / region?
Any more news on this is seems to have gone awful quiet lately
Most of the talk wasn't really talk but rather much of the same bickering that's gone on since the thread was made.
I get a good laugh out of the bickering/arguments on here over the years in fairness
Toicfaidh ar ruidbhealach…..
In fairness John Cummins was made a Minister on the 29th of January, custom and practice would give him 100 days to get sh1t done, so 14th of April?
Hopefully we can get this decision made in the next few weeks and have shovels in the ground before the end of summer. Not holding my breath of course….

Independent still regurgitating that passenger number stat for 2016 in comparison to Connemara Airport, despite it only counting 5 months of operations!
I think at this stage we are all sick of reading/hearing about it.
The government needs to do one of two things
A. support it and release the funding.
B. come out and say we are not supporting it.
It has been talked a our as early as 2006, when the government of the day then were going to commit €27 million for a runway extension, 19 years later and we are still talking about it.
It's like the new engineering building part 2, f@@@ me.
The Independent never has a good word for anything in Waterford. Its quite amazing. Otherwise the saga of any state investment here on a realistic scale is just slow, slow, slow, slow. John who? Mary who? And two shinners about as useful as chocolate teapots.
Yeah the independent was very negative about the 5 million euro back in 2019 too if you look at the posts on here from then.
I didn't think the article was that bad. Better than not getting written about.
No such thing as bad publicity maybe?
From WLRFM today;
"The Transport Minister has been asked this week by Waterford Council to clarify the Government commitment to Waterford Airport and the next steps that are being taken on it.
Waterford City and County Council CEO says the Mayor has sent a letter to the Minister seeking a meeting on the Programme for Government commitment on Waterford Airport - and the "urgency of the situation" has been stressed.
The Council CEO spoke to Damien Tiernan on 'Deise Today' this morning on the situation at Waterford Airport and the council's continued funding of same."
The inaction is just spiteful now. Some real vile creatures in Ireland's political class.
16 months later still nothing. Did they have that meeting with the minister yet I assume not as haven't heard anything
ah dont worry, wont be dealt with during this government, it ll be talked up during the next ge build up though!
The lack of action on this is beyond disgraceful now.
