Hoping a New Thread may fix the posting issues.
I'd like them to draw with Arsenal, as it means we only need a point on Sunday. But I don't want Arsenal to lose. It would just be nicer to win the title on the pitch at Anfield. It would be different if it was a closer race, but we need 3 points from 5 games, so it's gonna happen. As amazing as it was winning it in 2020, winning it because Man City lost a game wasn't as exciting as winning it cos we won a game, you know?
Of course, I will still be celebrating if Arsenal do lose. I would just prefer that they don't. It also means we get to avoid lazy narratives like Arsenal "handing the title" to Liverpool. 🙄
No…I just want this to be over asap.
And they owe us one from that 3-3 game a few years ago which put a nail in our title coffin.
And I also have 3 Palace players on my Fantasy team 😂
I'd rather win it Sunday tbh. I also want us to get at least 90 points.
I cannot even claim to have counted Chiesa, I just cannot count properly. It is 21 players with 5 appearances and then Chiesa on 4.
I want it on Sunday also
Already experienced the other way when Chelsea beat City in summer 2020 allowing us to clinch with playing.
The last time we won the league in front of fans was 1990.
Palace playing in the Cup semi on the weekend.
Lost to Palace in the Cup semi in 1990……..
I am still getting over that game for some reason.
An experience I'd be very happy to recreate!
I was a leetle drunk that night
Still getting over that because if we beat Palace in the semi final we would have beaten United in the final and Ferguson who was under pressure at the time could have been fired and the United era of dominance may never have happened!
More Huijsen analysis.
One potential negative I see here is the inevitable links with Madrid or Barca if he becomes really successful. Hopefully he will be tied down to a decent contract if that comes to pass but I'm probably catastrophising here.
As someone posted a while ago, isn't it great to be in a position to be discussing "how" we would like to win the league? :)
Similarly, we lost to Chelsea in (I think) the penultimate game of 2002/03 which meant they pipped us to 4th place. Abramovich bought them that summer, I suspect that wouldn't have happened had we won that match
(Admittedly he may have tried to buy us, which I would have hated)
I remember thar as being the last day of the season, Jesper Gronkjaer
We also played then the first game of the next season, the first game of the Abramovic era was at Anfield (was at that one)
You're right, it was the final day too!
"Chelsea clinched a berth in next season's Champions League at the expense of Liverpool in the '£20m match' at Stamford Bridge"
http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport2/hi/football/eng_prem/2978103.stm
Turned out to be worth a lot more than 20m to them!
He was going to buy them anyway. Bates was looking to sell with Chelsea 80 million in debt and Abromvich needed somewhere to put his money through.
Russians also loved to live in London so it would have always been Chelsea over buying us.
There were rumours he was considering Spurs also
The only requirement is that every player that has made 5 or more league appearances must get a medal. After that the club can distribute them however they see fit. In 2020, Klopp joked about the kit man deserving a medal because he was responsible for disinfecting every facility before the squad could use them.
Abramovich was in the process of concluding the deal to buy Tottenham when Ken Bates offered him Chelsea who were on the brink of bankruptcy. Liverpool had a deal in place to sign John Terry that summer.
Today could be the day 😁.
I'd never heard that story about Terry 😮
“In the final game of the 2002/03 season, it was a shoot-out between Liverpool and Chelsea for the last Champions League place,” Phil Thompson told Paddy Power’s From The Horse’s Mouth podcast.
“This was just before Roman Abramovich came in. We’d heard Chelsea were in dire straits, and they weren’t going to offer Frank Lampard or John Terry a contract.
“After the game, as Chelsea were doing a lap of honour, Gerard Houllier said to me that Terry was a bit of a player. I agreed, adding I didn’t think they’d offered him a contract.
“So Houllier went and shook John Terry’s hand and asked ‘how would you like to play for Liverpool?’ and John said: ‘I’d love to, Mr Houllier.’
“After, we sent one of our coaches into the players’ lounge and asked John for his agent’s phone number. John said: ‘I’ll do more than that, here’s my personal telephone number, ask him to give us a call’.
“A couple of weeks later, Abramovich took over, and his first dealings were signing Terry and Lampard to big contracts – so we were that far away from getting him.”
Feck winning it today. Win it on Sunday and let those fans at Anfield and in the city experience it then.
We can all wait a few more days.
You most certainly are not . I just want to see it done , even if I dislike Palace and normally love to see them lose . Go Palace
+1 for winning it on the pitch here. Will be so much better for the players, Slot, the backroom and the lucky fans for it to happen at Anfield
But obviously I won't complain if it happens tonight 🤣
Wont mean anything if it happens tonight for me!!!!
Apart from starting the party a lot earlier than Sunday
I lived in Croydon for a few years. Palace fans I met were all sound. Seemed like a good community club. Have a bit of a soft spot for them since.
Wouldn't be too mad if they beat Arsenal in a Derby and handed the title to Liverpool. Still prefer to win it at anfield.
I was at Liverpool Vs Palace last season. Horrible result!
But the Palace fans were great, supported their team and didn't spend the whole match singing derogatory songs about Liverpool. Great fans.
It’s because of a Palace fan I knew years ago in England and I detested him .
Win it Sunday hopefully, I want to see the emotion on the pitch at full time and the pouring from the stands of fans.
Ange is a Liverpool fan too right? Would be nice for him to witness in person in fairness
Id like arsenal to finish 3rd in a two horse race,so for that reason I'd like a palace win tonight 😂
Thank God for small merceries regarding the John Terry transfer,if true.
