New season so time to open the spring thread.
Will we get an improvement from the previous two stinkers? Time will tell.
A mostly cloudy and dry start in Dublin 13 with any rain spreading southeast fizzling out.
Something I've found really frustrating since moving to Dublin 5 years ago is the almost complete lack of real warmth in the spring, it's usually not until around the solstice that it starts to get comfortably warm which can make the summer feel far too short for me. Further west and inland you just don't get that nagging easterly breeze that kills any feeling of heat on nice sunny days
lovely start to the day in SCD. Quite warm in the sun also.
YR giving me 20 degrees next Wednesday in Kildare, is it going to happen?
No rain yesterday. Cloudy yet pleasant. Ground is utterly saturated. Thankfully all my flower and vegetable beds are raised with moats around them.

As well, I think it was so wet that we're practically bang on average for rain up to this point in spring, soon to be above average with the rain that's due.
Just how wet the past week has been is more exceptional in the east than we actually think.
It was the wettest of any 7 day period on record for April at Dublin Airport with 75.1mm from 16th-22nd April 2025. The previous wettest April 7 day period was 58.8mm from 31st March-6th April 1987. So it absolutely smashed that.
It's the wettest of any 7 day period since October 2023. There's only been 11 months this century so far with a wetter 7 day period before April 2025 (May 2002, Oct 2002, Nov 2002, Aug 2004, Aug 2008, Oct 2011, Aug 2014, Nov 2014, Sep 2022, Aug 2023, Oct 2023).
My garden needs cutting again however no point right now, the tractor mower would just sink through the mud and leave brown tracks all over the garden, need a few dry days before I event attempt cutting the grass.
This definitely won't be popular here but I preferred March 2024, it brought the best snowfall in six years and I made great memories that day. Ironically, the only day from March 2025 that I can specifically recall was a wet one.
As for April, I've never seen this much bad weather in April. On top of the 75+ mm we've had since last Wednesday, the 11th-14th April was a washout period when I was in Spain, so I've probably had over 100 mm in the last two weeks between Ireland and Spain. As well, a named storm there brought very strong winds on the 10th and the 11th before the rain came.
The charts make for some grim reading now with no real settled period in sight. Low after low coming out way making it very difficult for any high pressure to properly establish over us despite its best efforts.
Hopefully we see a change soon, a bad May always shortens the summer for me. Feels like we're constantly chasing the good weather and then suddenly it's October. I can't deal with another bad summer!
Is it just me, but lately the weather outlook 4 to 5 days inadvance seems OK, then a major downgrade with 48 hours. More heavy rain forecast Thursday night and in to Friday with rain forecast most of Friday. All forcasts over the Easter had Dublin remaining relatively dry towards the latter part of the impending weekend!
Agree. This is the time of year when people want weather, from now onwards. Dry, fine spells are always a bonus in Ireland, but no good as early as March if later spring and summer are crap. Really disappointing Easter spell for the many on hols now.😒
Oh I know Cluedo, if it wasn't Easter I wouldn't be complaining at all as would just be in work so it wouldn't make a blind bit of difference.
Just disappointing when so many people look forward to time off over Easter to get out and about.
Maybe its my fault for being off work, if the sun spilts the trees again next week when I'm back in work you can all make sure I don't take anymore time off😁.
Yeah but Dublin Airport led a charmed life in March. 13mm rain in March 2025 compared to 115mm in March 2024. You've had more rain in the last week than in all of February and March and half of April.
Unfortunately In Dublin it's rained everyday since last Thursday and more than expected most days.
The 'nice' days on Sunday and Monday didn't happen.
At least they got today right, dry up until about 2pm then lashing fot the rest if day( they got that right!) so those of us who are not in work could get out before the rain came.
We have tried to make most of it and at least we are off for rest of week.
Yeah you had only 12mm of rain in the 45 days up to mid April. A week later and you are up to 72mm of rain. Mad stuff really. Deluge indeed!
Friday and Saturday were very wet here in Galway but Sunday/Monday were pleasant days outdoors. Today was a shocker with heavy rain until around 5pm. They key with Ireland is to make the most of the dry periods.
The things I miss most about the sunny weather in the first half of April are the sunsets and the starry nights. They were stunning.
Amazing, the weather patterns these past few years goes from very dry to very wet like a flip of a coin.
April 2025 is now wetter than April 2024 at Dublin Airport, you wouldn't have thought it at the start of the month. We might beat April 2023 too for the wettest April since 2016. It's unlikely right now but we can't rule out passing 2012 and 2016 for wettest April since 2001.
My garden is a swamp at the moment.
Haven't seen relentless rain like this all winter.
It caught me off guard, I was away yesterday to enjoy a few hours of dryness and this morning seemed nice but then back to the deluge pattern from this afternoon. A week ago the ground here was bone dry and now it's like a sponge with squelch everywhere and water pooling. The past 5 days have mostly been horrid, the dry first half to April is well and truly wiped out at this stage.
this evening is the most punishing weather I’ve been out in all year, hopefully Friday is that last of this kind of shite
Like a December evening in Dublin, lights on since 4pm
Ye spoke too soon Gonzo
Torrential rain
Still raining here in carrick but the sun 🌞 should appear soon before sunset
Another shocker in North Ros,certainly an April of two halves. Have doubts about high pressure returning looking at the weather models 🫤
Rain starting again in south Dublin.
Another washout day in west Wexford
Great morning out walking in Wicklow. Rain arrived after 2pm.
After a dry morning rain kicked in at lunch time. Heavy at the moment. Leitrim.
Yesterday was a beautiful day in Cork. Just 0.5mm of rain so went to Fota with the other 30,000 people. Ya do forget just how peaceful the Northwest is.
Back to rain today so swam for an hour in the pool. Will go to gym later as that's what I do in the constant sligo rain.
