And I was right.
How convenient that the best song of the last 25 years is one that's just a few months old, is currently number 3 in the charts, and is played constantly on TodayFM.
Not even her best single, Good Luck Babe way better.
Not been called that in while.
TodayFm play her constantly, so nothing to be surprised about here.
no Sheeran or Swift in top 20
Not even the best song she released in the past year. Plus they always play the absolutely terrible radio edit of the song.
Hozier's "Too Sweet" stands out like a sore thumb in that Top 10. Definitely an element of "we have to a strong Irish showing" going on there. Will be completely forgotten about in 6 months. No way it compares to the others in that Top 10.
Haven't seen either video! Must watch.
I'd go for Hot to Go,but either way it's the worst of the 3.
that was 21
So what was No1?
I believe that audiences in the US are already starting to turn on her, so maybe this time next year, she'll be forgotten over here too.
The full list of 500 has been published:

That was quick! Thanks. And unbelievably, Low by Flo Rida does indeed appear twice, at 188 and 452. The second one is co-credited to T-Pain; are they two completely different versions or is it just a spectacular cock-up?
Pink Pony Club by Chappell Roan.
To answer my own question: no, there's only that. My goodness.
Seriously? Out of 500 songs that was voted no1?
If ever I needed a reason to stop my minimal listening to TodayFM, that's the final nail in the coffin.
Yep, I agree, but as I posted earlier, she's constantly played on TodayFM, so it's no surprise.
So artist constantly played + recency bias = number 1.
Run it next year and I'd say Pink Pony Club would struggle to make t20 (aswell as Hozier "Too Sweet")
Personally, from the final run-down, my top 5, in terms of either turning up the volume of the radio or instantly singing along, would have been:
Hey Ya
Time to Pretend (incredible song)
Stan
Mardy Bum
All These Things That I've Done
Though I did love the inclusion of QOTSA, Foo Fighters etc.
Very surprised She Said from Plan B didn't feature at all, although I always thought Stay Too Long was more of a bop.
Oh exactly, I think Chappell Roan could be almost forgotten by this time next year.
Coldplay most at 13 songs - 2 in top 10 (Yellow @ 7 and Sky Full of Stars at #4)
Sheeran had 10, highest was Thinking Out Loud at #53
Swift has 8 highest Style at #25
Gaga has 8 Bad Romance best at #13
Coldplay biggest winners.
What was the oldest song on the countdown? I think it was Don't Give Up by Chicane ft Bryan Adams, released around March 2000. Don't think anything from earlier in 2000 showed up.
It was a top 500 of the last 25 years not all time
I know, but I'm still curious what the oldest song on there was.
What an anticlimax.
Mostly their daily tripe sprinkled with some good music.
Judging by the comments on Instagram, the general feeling is the no.1 didn't deserve to be no.1. And it didn't. Lots of people unhappy.
I wonder will they take any of the comments on board.
Horsesh1t
I think you're badly underestimating Chapelle Roan there. Her album is easily one of the best pop albums I've heard over the past decade.
Its good but look at whats around her in the top 10/20. She won't have that staying power and will fade.
Anyone remember Sigrid - Strangers, Mirror, High Five etc.
Not a single appearance in the 500 and she similarly ruled the charts for a time.
I see them, a lot of them can't seem to believe that a song currently in the charts has been voted the best song of the past 25 years. Recency bias is always a thing in any public poll, but this is something else.
Did these people vote, though?
I'd go for:
Do I Wanna Know
Ms Jackson
Digital Love
Feel Good Inc.
Molly's Chambers
But grateful to see QOTSA still represented as well.
Surprised there was no Clint Eastwood by Gorillaz or Starboy/I Feel It Coming by the Weeknd, they would be still fairly popular in the mainstream (at least as much as On Melancholy Hill/DARE/Save Your Tears)
I wouldn't have had an issue that Chappelle Roan would place highly in the vote, but it's really odd that PPC would be the song of hers with the most votes. She's had two better singles than that in the past year.
It's almost like Bauer insisted on that being given number 1 position to justify their playing it every hour of every day in the past few weeks.
Maniac 2000 came out in February I think so possibly that is the earliest
