Two winnable games at home against Tipp and Waterford now, Limerick in the Gaelic Grounds will be tough but we proved last year that we can beat them twice in the championship. That could turn out to be a point gained for us in the end, but Cork have failed to beat Clare now for the fifth successive championship game.
I'm happy we didn't lose - which we very nearly did.
Would you have preferred to lose?
Take the draw. Learn your lessons. Move on.
Next weeks game will hopefully see Downeys injury cleared up and okay to start.
We can't settle for mediocrity and moral victories. There seems to be an assumption we'll walk over Tipp and Waterford. I'm not so sure.
A draw away to the All Ireland Champions is far from mediocrity - some assumption right there.
Where is that assumption we'll walk over Tip and Waterford?
You have to win your home games. If we do, we are in a great poisiton because of the draw today.
Some folk will ONLY focus on the second half while blissfully forgetting about the first half.
We saw the good and the bad today - but crucially, we didn't lose.
Waterford will be no pushover... they have been out of the limelight by playing in Div 2... they will be ready for Cork...
Cork lads should stay focused on the prize... tbh there was a touch of desperation about Cork in 2nd half today... they are really desperate to win all ire... no doubt Clare lads were giving Cork players plenty of reminders of who the Champions and how long it's been since Cork last won... Cork will have to be able to deal with that and play their game... its the final piece in the jigsaw for them
Tipp today look a lot different to the league final. Definitely no pushovers in this championship
Tipp won't be the walkover we might have thought at 2.40pm today.
I will take a point win over Tipp now thank you very much.
Barretts red card was one of the worst lapses in discipline I’ve seen. We had just scored a cracker of a point and he elbows the man clean into the face. Should be made walk home
And Patrick Collins… meltdown when the pressure hit
Two years ago we beat Waterford at home in our opening game and still failed to get out of Munster. Tipp and Waterford have big games in them, but both both those teams are not at the levels that Clare and Limerick are at imo.
How many times have Cork left teams back into it over the last 2 years. The game was won at halftime and yet we barely scrape a draw....
Hard not to be disappointed after such a start
I was really hoping that we'd put that sort of thing behind us and Clare are starting to become bit of a bogey side for us now.
Management keep persisting with him but we still haven't properly replaced Anthony Nash imo.
Barrett let himself and his team down by needlessly reacting.
Clare mugged him and they did similar last year to SOD.
We were 9 up at that stage having weathered the storm.
Lessons learned.
Move on.
Clare are divers, we cannot engage in that department as refs are weak and buy their acting. Lessons learned, as above said we move on.
That's my biggest fear for Cork... opposition will be told to keep game tight upto the hour mark as they will say some cork player or other will have a melt down.. last Yr it was sean o'donoghue 3rd man tackle on SOD.. today it was Barrett.. I also think Mark coleman while a very sweet hurler is not a defender... the O'brien guy might be a better option.. or that Mullins chap that was capt of u20s 2 yrs ago
What did he do wrong, poor puckouts ?
4 puckouts down the right consecutively and lost every single one - drove one over the sideline.
HHe Seems to have little competition for the Jersey? I remember when Cork had 3 good goalies.. donal og, Coleman and Nash
Looking to swap 4 terrace for 2 stand in Cork v Tipp
but you see thats the problem.. it happened last year again Clare and today a Cork player has done the same thing with the same end result for the player… but luckily today Cork got themselves a draw… why werent the lessons from last year learned?? how many times does it have to happen before the lessons ARE actually learned…
I agree with you.
There's a fine line between standing up for yourself and going too far.
Clare are experts at goading diving and playing the ref.
Barrett should have known better plus he misses next week nowadays well I presume.
The same thing happened last year and we were goaded in 2023 in Ennis as well. Lessons aren't being learned.
Ya Clare are divers....ye're a gas shower Cork forwards have ice skates on!
We had the winning of the game imo until we allowed to get ourselves distracted by the niggly off the ball stuff. Failing to leave Ennis with the win was down to our own lack of discipline in the end imo.
The current Cork team is a fair bit better than the 2023 version imo.
Cora Staunton on the Sunday Game to say Mattie Taylor made a meal of the tackle by Paudie Clifford was a bit over the top.
Connolly could easily have gone as well
For another dive?
That's not the point. The indiscipline and allowing ourselves to be dragged into a battle is. It's a consistent feature, whether we're good or bad.
