We have massive problems filling roles, particularly in healthcare and services, who do we get to fill these roles if Irish people won't?
We as a country have used the US/UK/Australia & Europe as safety valves when we couldn't support our own. Look at Australia & New Zealand today as a result of the last recession, people who left as young adults have set up families across Australia & New Zealands major cities. Who here doesn't have English and/or American relatives? How many households here for generations depended on foreign money?

No yet again your miscontruing what has been said we both have simply pointed out that your point of view is factually incorrect. You're opinion .( even though your entitled as i am to your opinion ) Is not an alternative fact or anything like that. I'm not wholly in favour of a lot of the refugees asylum seekers that seem to appear here and want for very little while not obeying the rule of law or respect of the citizen of this country. But that is not the majority of migrants into this country.
To be fair, we have pathways for genuine workers to come here if needed, and they should be welcomed.
However, an unwelcome conflation now exists within the term immigrant (which to be fair, was brought on by our government); those who come through the correct channels for work, and those who come here for a house and free money. There's a significant insincere cohort that are abusing the asylum system and not looking for work, and plenty tax going towards it. Our emigrating ancestors didn't have this privilege
Yeah we need workers and can't be picky given the shortfalls. There'll always be the ones looking for the anything they can get for free; but they aren't exclusively immigrants either. Our emigrating ancestors (and ones still emigrating) are a mixed bag as well; most are looking to better themselves and realise they'll have to work to do so. There are plenty who went and became the same burdens on society that the other poster wants to equate all immigrants as.
After Brexit there was a flurry of English people looking for any tenuous Irish lineage to get there hands on an Irish passport. I worked with an English firm a few years ago; I'd say 75% of the people I talked to had the Irish Passport despite never having set foot on Irish soil. It was solely for travelling on, but we gave them out like confetti and not a word said.
They can blame all our issues on "illegal immigrants" without real knowledge or discussion on the biggest issues but it's an easy way for people like Tucker Carlson/McGregor/Steenson/Trump to appeal to simplistic populist issues to secure their vote. That's the only reason that grifter Tucker Carlson is here; for what he can gain from it. They simply don't care and would sell any lie to secure their power.
We have a housing crisis that the opposition love to make noise about, yet they're some of the most fierce objectors to housing in their own areas. In Galway we have the ring road fiasco ongoing, done in by local objectors. We have a port in limbo at rossaveal, done in by a Cork man! We recently had an offshore wind farm project withdrawn, there were thousands of local objections. Look at the metro to Dublin airport, oh, there isn't one. Yet Copenhagen (1.5m people) has an extensive and growing underground system. Nimbyism is a big problem here.

We're in the top five on GDP per capita and top ten GNI per capita. We have a high standard of education, health and living.
Having a national debt does not somehow makes us 'poor'. There are only about 5 countries without national debt. The national debt levels are again on a downward trajectory.
Our base social welfare payment puts individuals into the top 15% of income worldwide. I’d wager it’s top 10% when all benefits like double weeks, fuel allowance etc is taken int account.
Ireland is a wealthy country, people have just forgotten how to measure their situation without comparing themselves to the lies of influencers or the top 1% globally.

It's not "nonsense"; you just don't like it.
It's one of a number of indicators. Feel free to post some you think show us as "not a wealthy nation" (one that isn't "nonsense"). I never said national debt made us "wealthy"; there are a whole host of other indicators and reasons. Even look at the ESRI report released yesterday comparing our standards with Northern Ireland.
As for the CO2 emissions - we aren't even near the top from what I can see?
We haven't been part of the UK for quite some time now.
Given we still have the Catholic Church operating as normal here, we can't really lecture others about child sexual abuse. It's Easter week, mass will be busy again, christenings, weddings, confirmations, communions - we still entertain it all.
