New season so time to open the spring thread.
Will we get an improvement from the previous two stinkers? Time will tell.
A mostly cloudy and dry start in Dublin 13 with any rain spreading southeast fizzling out.
I was. It was around 46°C and the air was utterly still, and then it got quite dark, given the temperature, as a presumably massive cu-nimb built up directly overhead, then there were a few cracks of thunder and hail started to fall at a furious rate. Absolutely insane, a once in a lifetime experience. The temperature just plummeted about 26° in an incredibly short space of time.
God it was bliss
You mean this?
I thought I was going to miss it, as there was a bit of cloud about, and she was being a tease. Earlier I had hung about in the hope of getting a shot of her rising, but there were clouds to the east, sun to the west and some patches of rain.
But I'm not complaining, because I got something even better.
Beautiful bright fresh day here in Kerry, one shower earlier this morning but dry since, cool W'ly breeze 11.7C.
Played golf this morning and it was cooler but very pleasant when sun came out. Two light showers. Let's hope Rory can do the business later.
Today felt more like an August day on the west coast of Ireland rather than the southeast coast of Spain: 18°C, dull, and wet with persistent rain. The rain doesn't seem like it will let up soon, so that'll make two days in a row with 0 hours of sun, though yesterday had a few seconds of sun.
Not a bad weekend at all really in Dublin considering the fine spell has ended, sitting on the balcony in shorts and t-shirt at the moment with clear blue skies. A few brief showers but plenty of sun and considering it's mid April its perfectly pleasant
Cloud blocked the moonrise yesterday evening on the east coast but not a problem this evening, aligned from Clontarf.
Some very low cloud/fog in southeast Spain this morning and a much worse moon picture than Sryan's, though mine is a moonset rather than a moonrise.
Rain holding off in Meath. You'd miss the good spell - the kids school holidays! Dodgy clouds everywhere. Bank holiday forecast not looking so great either?
Kerry Climbing sharing snow falling at high elevation.
Meath 11° Brrrrrrr. Will I resist turning on the heating. Boo.
raining all morning in Arklow 5.2mm,still spitting a bit now
Here is a still from last nights RTE forecast showing 11am
Basically wrong
Mother nature trumping the new super computer again
In fairness that shows rain very very close to the south east coast. It's not that far wrong.
14º and part cloudy skies in Dublin.
Temps not much cooler than last week for the East, and still slightly above averge for the time of year.
Nice day in Dublin again today…some lovely sunshine at the moment although cloudier than last week
Yeah not a bad day in Dublin and I expected it to be colder. Had a lovely walk on Dun Laoghaire pier.
it was a period of rain for about 5 hours that was not forecast until it happened
The long weekend is now looking like an extension of the weekends of misery so far and of course the weather looks to be taking up again from next Tuesday, no doubt to break again the following Friday!
Came in here expecting to see comments on that sunset in the east, it was a cracker. One of the best this year so far. Images from Baldoyle.
I'd like to highlight this wonderful rainbow too by @Villain that's worth a share here.
Great pics sryan, that is a remarkable capture of the rainbow from villain and the landscape looks spectacular.
Good Friday looks Bad here. 34mm of rain forecast for Sligo. Might get all the long weekend rain out of the way in 1 day and not much showers in following days do not too bad .... currently
Pauldry, Fri & Sat looking an absolute wash out here in Dublin.
Glad I haven't booked farm/zoo yet for Easter outing, might be cinema yet!
I think Wednesday and Friday will be wet days in Dublin Appledrop so I'd cinema one of those. Saturday not too bad, or Sunday
Avoided any showers in Meath yesterday with clouds hovering everywhere. Couldnt really see that sunset in Meath @sryanbruen One of those threatening dark clouds with sunset trying to come through. The clouds held and didnt open. Yes @pureza kids never got a chance outdoors at their relations in Wicklow yesterday. Today looks best everywhere so need to get out early by the radar I'm thinking. Not sure which direction precip on SE coast is to sway later? Tomorrow on the east looks poor on waking. Not much hill walking tomorrow me thinks. Hope it doesnt come as forecast. Wonder if anything be visible on Lug.
Dry and 8º in Dublin 2.
milky sun in Arklow atm amidst thick cloud
Temp a rather un respectable 8.8c
Higher ground in Wicklow looks a good bet for some snow overnight and in to tomorrow and in to south Dublin for a time too. The GFS brings a touch of wintriness to other parts of the east as well.
I avoided the showers to, kutebride, but i believe there was a couple of cracks of thunder in Kells and a torrential shower. I suppose that's April for ye !. I'm not looking forward to the next few days in the east as rain moving up the Irish Sea is a very bad sign for us.
Love the rainbow and sunset photos.
Lovely sunny morning in Galway. I don't think I have seen the rivers and streams so low in mid April for many years. I walked the seashore near Spiddal earlier and the streams entering the sea were just a trickle. I feel like growth will just explode when we get a heavy rainfall.
The cherry blossom trees are just beautiful all around the country.
Feeling like a January day out in Dublin. Really chilly breeze, jumpers & jackets back out of the wardrobe..
Sure does. Off work for a few days and decided to walk Dun Laoghaire pier. It was absolutely Baltic.
I see there’s a rainfall warning for the east coast that has just been issued for tonight and tomorrow. Lovely.
Torrential downpour at the moment in Inchicore in D8. What's even weirder is that the shower is moving from north to south whilst the main rainband arriving into south Dublin is moving from south to north!
Frost, flooding and snow(mountains) possible tonight depending on your location and altitude. Tonight
Quite a cloudy night with outbreaks of rain spreading up along Leinster and east Ulster, turning heavy and persistent in parts, with spot flooding possible. Some wintry falls may occur over the Wicklow mountains. Breezy near the east coast too. Mainly dry elsewhere with light northwesterly winds. Lowest temperatures of -1 to 4 degrees, so a touch of frost couldn't be ruled out in the west and southwest.
