Finally
The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild's Nintendo Switch 2 Edition Won't Include the DLC
🤦♂️ SMH. An 8 year old Wii U game, and Nintendo won't even show a smidgen of generosity, if that's even the right word for it. You had people defending Nintendo when charging full whack for all the Wii U ports to Switch, to try and recoup costs, to get a larger user base the opportunity experience these great games, etc.
BOTW is the best selling Zelda game ever. It's sold ~33 million copies. When is enough, enough? Nintendo have made a fortune on this game and plenty of others. Switch games are still full price, there's no Selects range. If you never purchased BOTW on Switch or the DLC, this will work out more expensive than the crazy priced Mario Kart World, and with that at least, you could argue it's a new game. Someone tell me if I've got that wrong please. This, just seems miserly, but sadly it doesn't come as a huge shock, not to me at least.
And speaking of Mario Kart, when Nintendo ported MK8 from Wii U to Switch, they added in the paid Wii U DLC tracks, fixed the Battle Mode, made some gameplay tweaks, added in more characters. And how much extra did it cost? Nothing. It was still €60.
It's possible the first included cable was only High Speed - dunno, dont have it in front of me, but they are only rated up to 1080p or 4k/30Hz. Probably bundling either a Premium High Speed which allows for 4K/60Hz with expanded colour spaces allowing for HDR etc, or a Ultra High Speed cable because they support all HDMI 2.1 features such as 4K/120Hz uncompressed and everything before it - plus they are fairly common place nowadays across Amazon etc. Most people would have fully rated HDMI cables and not realise it. The old adage of 'any oul HDMI cable is OK as long as it works' is outdated though and you could run into issues in certain configs.
Depends on the TV really, if you're planning on trying out the 4K side of things it'd be best to go with what they give you, or at least a suitable alternative.
I setup a new TV earlier this week with 4k/120hz cables for all the consoles, including the switch so I can easily swap it out for the switch 2 when it arrives. Before I had a 120hz TV I didn't realise how many of my cables weren't capable of 4k/120
I believe Digital Foundry noted the console maxes out at 4k/60 in docked mode, likely due to it not having full HDMI 2.1 support. 120hz is restricted to lower output resolutions.
A shame for the handful of developers that would have used it - I'm sure Shin'en would've enjoyed the challenge - and obviously the better the specs the better. Not sure what it means for VRR / 40 FPS support at 4K, which would be my main interest. But tbh given the specs I don't think too many developers will be pushing 4K / 60, let alone 4K / 120.
TBH, when they announced VRR support I assumed it was going to be limited to handheld mode anyway. VRR over HDMI 2.0 has an extremely checkered past after being originally mooted for the spec but ended up limited to some AMD GPU and monitors combos of the time. 2.1 done away with all of that and if Nintendo want to support it via the dock HDMI output they will either have to go with some workaround like the former, or implement official HDMI 2.1 support ala Xbox/PS5. Upscaled 4K/60/1080p/120 depending on game support sounds more likely given the expected bandwidth limitation and within the expected performance of the Switch2.
Could lead to a whole series of quality v performance comparisons on the internet
Linus tech tips was saying that Nintendo have found a way to charge people for the Switch 2 instruction manual.
I believe the BOTW and TOTK switch 2 updates are free to anybody who has the original game(s) and a Nintendo Switch Online subscription. So they are giving something back
Here's some info on the HDMI cable situation.
Basically it's HDMI 2.0 on the Switch 2 and HDMI 1.4 on Switch 1.
It'll be compatible but won't take advantage of higher refresh rates.
https://www.gamesradar.com/platforms/nintendo-switch-2/nintendo-says-your-old-switch-hdmi-cable-isnt-compatible-with-the-switch-2-but-id-argue-thats-not-strictly-true-or-helpful/
It's not free though, and you need to pay for the upper tier of Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack. You only have access as long as you pay for the rental service.
Lol Nintendo and Outsurance are one of a kind.
That famous definition of "giving something back" which means "making it part of a paid-for service" 😁
Also bold of you to assume there won't be a Switch 2 NSO tax to cover the added features that will be available once the new console has launched...
Ya, I meant to add that I think we can be sure there will be a price hike for NSO, for the GameChat camera and GameCube. Sure everything else is going up in price.
Yeah but most people would have NSO anyway so it's being included in something you already pay for.
What's it going up to? I'm currently paying less than a tenner a year on a family membership…
Yes I would assume that. The price of the base NSO didn't up when they started offering the expansion pack. In fact they added a service to it for no extra fee if memory serves
Id guess we will see another direct in May to fully showcase things or at least reveal a few more things, I'm not buying NSO again until we officially see things and if there is going to be any sort of increase.
Seems generic USB-C cameras will be compatible.
You can easily check compatibility using the Test USB Camera feature located in the Nintendo Switch 2 system settings.
I'll wait for good reddit thread on bargain cameras….
…or when someone comes up with an Xbox Kinect adapter 😁
Boy, they are really chancing their arms regarding the "Switch 2" upgrades. Whatever about paying a tenner or whatever it was, for the upgrade, having to pay for the online service also? Is that confirmed? That's not on.
I don't think I'll buy at launch (Bought the Switch at launch and suffered terrible Joycon Drift and Wii). I will be in Japan next month so HOPEFULLY will get a chance to see it in action.
The ‘expansion pass’ online subscription means you get the Zelda upgrades ‘free’ (as long as you’re subscribed), but you can just buy them separately otherwise. So I don’t believe it’s mandatory to have the subscription.
Ah. OK. THAT makes more sense. I am interested to see how it plays more graphically intensive games like Cyberpunk and FF Remake. I'm not a pixel junkie but it will be interesting to see how they compare. The previous generations (especially the Wii) had issues with 3rd Party support for their flagship games as the gap between the Nintendo and Sony/MS devices were just so large. I'm not expecting PS5-Pro in the palm of my hand but I also don't want developers simply ignoring the Switch because it's not worth the effort to convert
On Amazon you can pre-order Street Fighter 6: year 1-2 fighter edition. €42.69
Its €60 in Symths
Out Of Stock
Also Bravely Default Flying Fairy HD Remaster for €29.10
Both shambolic "Game-Key Card" releases.

I don't care what anyone says, these Switch 2 cartridges are basically Switch 2 cartridges in a slightly different guise. DS and 3DS cartridges were pretty much the same when looked at closely, there were more pins on the 3DS games and they had that exterior nub at the top to prevent them being inserted fully into a DS.
Switch 2 cartridges are the same size, they look the same(apart from colour), they have the same capacities(Switch has a 64GB cartridge that was never used), taste the same.
Nintendo probably in their eyes figured, if it ain't broke, don't fix it. Even though for the public, and my opinion, the Switch cartridges are horrible. They're expensive and have limited capacity, CD Projekt Red have said 64GB is the limit on capacity.
While the Switch has been hacked, I don't know if the Switch cartridge system has been successfully. There was the MIG Switch, but I don't think that's been successful and had various issues. Nintendo will probably have extra security checks that will be tougher to crack on Switch 2.
We've got a closer look at the Switch 2 cartridge and how Nintendo will be locking it out physically of Switch.
We'll have to wait until people gets their hands on Switch 2 cartridges to get a teardown of what is inside and how they compare to the original.
Will family game sharing be available on Switch 2 - example on PS5 I buy games and share account information with family member they can download and play on any account as long as it's set to primary on console.
Or do you need to be logged into the original purchasers account in order to play?
This is how I believe it works currently, but am open to correction:
Soon (when the launch the Switch 2?) there will be a system called Virtual Game Cards.
Thanks for this. It sounds much simpler in the new method.
I assume after the 14 days is up you can't re-share with same person?
Very surprised there isnt a Zelda Double Pack at launch for a discount I would be tempted to buy both then
As far as we know, yes you can share it with them again.
You need to be physically in the same room as them (at least when you first share it), again quite like a physical cart.
You don't have to pay for NSO, it's an optional service for those that want to play online
