Starting a thread for 2025 gigs as they'll likely start rolling in.
I'll arbitrarily throw in Rob Beckett playing the Olympia on the 26th September 2025 which went on sale today.
He was off from the start and was clearly drinking red wine, (which turned to him drinking martini's last night). It was clear he was drunk and half assing it. Telling a crowd he is dying and going off on tangents about Madonna's vagina will turn a crowd against a person.
Yes there was a flash photo, but the issues where there long before. Glad last night went better.
Nick Mulveys Cork gig : Doors now changed to earlier time of 17:30, gig starts at 18:00, i assume this is to facilitate people like me, who also want to go to the festival finale at Cork Opera House the same night Sunday September 14th, which should be 8pm ish
Any Bon Iver rumours out there? New album is released this week but zero live dates announced anywhere.
Still sober according to all sources close to the artist. A clause in his managerial contract invalidates the entire agreement (with penalties) if he doesn't stay sober. How can you ascertain that someone is drinking wine or martini?
At no point, according to reports and reviews, did he state that he was dying. Journalists consistently reported that he said that a fit and/or bad reaction to Meniere's could kill him. Which is true. Mind-boggling how people would still use flash photography when he has clear reminders not to do so at all of his gigs, both on the walls and with fliers on the seats.
He's a grumpy sod but in this instance I find it hard to fault him for getting annoyed with one or more dumb attendees.
Tom Dunne has been playing tracks off it the last week or 2. Never really listened to him, but love the songs Tom has been playing.
Interviewed a few weeks ago in London and indication was nothing planned.. got the impression he got a bit burnt out touring but it's really how you make money so unavoidable.
Hopefully that'll change when album comes out on Friday.
Missed 'em during COVID as rescheduled dates didn't work for me.
I don't think I'll ever beat being at this gig.. incredible!
His debut For Emma, Forever Ago is for me amongst the best albums of this century and some other great stuff followed. He honed his craft in Galway whilst selling phones (apparently useless at it by his own admission) in the Eir shop off Eyre Sq. Tried his luck at several open mic nights in the city and returned home to Wisconsin ready to take on the world.
I think he was the only musician to accompany Kanye West at his Glastoo headlining slot. A very odd choice and he just stood in the corner of the set tapping a laptop/computer. Never seen him live but his music is highly recommended.
^ The first three albums are all belters in their own way.
'22 A Million' is so different from what went before, but equally brilliant.
Not been as much a fan of the output since, but he's excellent live nonetheless.
mac demarco returning for November gigs
I loved For Emma...., saw him at Tripod whenever that was (2009, 2010?) and haven't really listened to him since. Ridiculous carry on.
Meniere's won't kill him - Ive had it for nearly 30 years. That's probably what caused his tinnitus. His lifestyle will exacerbate the symptoms though and they can be extremely debilitating. The flash photography ban is because he says he has epilepsy.
Doh! My error. Had entirely meant to say Epilepsy. Thanks.
We know it was a martini because Adam’s told us last night that it was a martini. He also made a comment along the lines of life being too short for sobriety.
I’m not trying to say he was drunk last night but unless he was deliberately misrepresenting things then he wasn’t teetotal.
He definitely had a martini last night. He mentioned someone had to run in next door to get it for him. A joke or two was made as well about liking dirty martinis. He probably had a drink or two but he wasn't falling about the place drunk or anything either.
Black country new road are playing Cyprus avenue as part of sounds from a safe harbour on September 12th.
I enjoyed Ryan Adams last night but it was indeed surreal
Have seen him 6 or 7 times between 2004 and 2012, know how unpredictable he can be - there were 1 or maybe 2 "never again" gigs but then maybe 1 top 5 gig of all time in amongst it in the past
The chatting and rambling by him was, at times, quite funny , but probably tested the patience of some or many. Thank God it was a Monday night seated gig , I wouldn't want to imagine the same gig in standing format on a weekend
Music wise, what I thought were impressive renditions of In My Time of Need, Why Do They Leave, Desire ("U2 ripped this off...!"), Dear Chicago were personal highlights
Nationwide tour
Divine Comedy announced UK tour for later this year. Said they're doing Ireland next year
Know people there that went to see Sean Paul tonight came on at 10:35pm and barely played 30 minutes, are you entitled to a refund in those instances I wonder?
nope. It’s tough luck situation
It was you wasn't it, but you're absolutely mortified saying you paid to see Sean Paul 😄
Oh God no, I Sat at home watching the Arsenal game while the family went to that, honest to God couldn't pay me to go to it, I was getting the updates as to how it was getting on throughout and heard how much of a disaster it was so I was genuinely curious where you stood if they played for 30 mins
wasn’t it Nicki minaj who did about 40 minutes at malahide and mcd trotted out that it was sufficient
Late start and curfew, or what happened there?
Yeah and that 40 minutes included a few dress changes and came after being 90 minutes late. I think in the end MCD offered free tickets to any Malahide gig this year as an apology. Which was weird.
Not justifying it at all but I think that was a co-headline gig with Ashanti so her headline time should be included as well.
From what I gather, meant to open 6:30pm and delayed until 7pm, Ashanti the girl that's co-headlining didn't come on until 9pm when it was meant to be 8pm she did an hour,
By the time it hit 10pm she was finished and they spent 30-40mins setting up the stage for your man, he rocked on at 10:35-10:40pm, played 8 songs at around 30 mins and they cut off the electricity and turned the house lights on and that was the gig....
Mental carry on altogether I think it was 90 quid to see him or something
Never heard about him working in eir retail store and being based in Galway before - unbelievable story!
Should've stayed there. My ears would have preferred that. Instead we've had decades of his abysmal music.
Ryan Adams excellent last night. All that stuff from Belfast is shtick. Performance art.
Hes one step away from this.
He did loads of open mic stuff at the Cellar, Roisin Dubh, etc. Nice to think that this country played a small part in his development. Now where's my copy of For Emma?
