They're off.
Left off 15 heifers yesterday. They weight from 365 to 565. Heaviest a Sim, lightest an Frx. They have been gaining about 0.5kgs per day inside on silage and minerals. They went out to a scarfice paddock last Tuesday and ate two bales to yesterday when I left them off to grass. Hope to start feeding them mid April and send them off late May early June. 5 FRx, 2Fr,4HEx, 2AAx, a Chx and a SIx
jeez I think the grass has gone back into the ground in the last 2 days. That raw wind would fleece u. getting very tight now. Will have to stick out onto silage fields that were closed off .
Ya probably PU next year
Will urea be available next year or will it be PU instead?
New pm e is very low in P&K so will be spreading a good bit. Stock numbers are 85 to finish this year and 40 yearlings. Paid 14200 for a artic of feetlizer. 18 ton 18-6-12+S, 3T urea, 3T urea+S and 1.5T of PU. If the P&K's improved I coukd drop 4-6T of 18's and replace them with 3T of urea. It working out at 167 euro across the finishing cattle
All ready for Grass to explode but the weather stuck the pin back in that grenade.
What moneys worth of fertilizer are you spreading per head over the course of the year bass?
Grennans are gone to 18-4-12. No change in price either, funny that.
Had the choice of either when I purchased in early February about 25/ton difference I think paid extra for the unit.
Can't get 18.6.12 in west cork... small bags…it's now 18.5.12....i asked where's the one unit gone and just told it won't make any difference.. same price 570ton..,.. woefully expensive this year
badly needed that burst
Put fertlizer out end if February, ( urea 15-18 units an açre) blanket spread the farm with 18-6-12, slightly over two weeks ago@ a bag to the acre. Silage ground all spread. Starting to go again ( very selectively)as places grazed out. Everything out. Place ready to burst.
You can spend it on silage and ration or fertlizer
we had serious hail yesterday. almost an inch at the back door where wind was blowing them up against it
we’d hail stones
No there is definitely a sting in it today, I'd call it a very raw day, plenty of heavy showers and a lazy breeze to boot, it could be a while yet before the growth kicks off if this weather continues
its cold here today. Real bite to the wind or something. Half the house is dosed though so might be start of a flu
I have some fert out a few weeks now and some only got it Saturday. With temperatures so low, , no rain, hash wind etc. there’s actually no difference in either bits todate
Need a bit of kinder weather to kick it off properly.
Got fert out over the weekend. Bit of rain last night was welcome. It will hopefully drive on growth
The copper without a doubt
so do you think it was the copper that done the job or the multi min?
https://www.ballinrobevets.ie/product/multimin/
but of reading about it there
Used multi min here one year on cattle that weren’t doing well. A month later I didn’t notice any difference. Gave them a shot of copper then and they turned inside out after a few weeks.
They didn't just what was in 2kg of meal but it was a high spec weanling nut with a premium mineral pack probaly still not enough. I do use multimin but it is expensive to use on them all. 400kg weanling should get 4ml is that right? I do use it for the cows and calves. Are mineral blocks just a poorer way of giving the same thing without the guarantee they will all lick it?
its the only show in town in seems but it is steep alright
Think he also said it is roughly 3months cover
Seen a video recently from Ballinrobe vets on Multimin.
Serious claims on its efficacy.
"...probably results in a 5% - 10% crease in gros weight at end of grazing season…'
"…5% - 10% increase in conception rates with sexed Semen in FTAI... ".
Not sure if there is much difference between it and Liquid Gold or Nutrimax - go are using chelated minerals.
What multi min do lads go with .The virbac injection one is steep enough
If they got minerals over the winter I woukd give them a break on turnout for 6-8 weeks. Multi Min then would be the best option
I don’t give weanlings any minerals when they are let out. The cows get high mag buckets until may/June and then there are mineral blocks mounted on the creep feeders until they are re housed.
Multimin here day they go out.
getting the yearlings ready to let out to grass this week. (I know I’m late to the party but I had lots of silage so wanted to resist I little longer 🤣. Do people generally give minerals on turn out? And if so is it boluses or drenches or is a lick bucket good enough for them.
The lads paying 400 an acre have the maps for eu payment and nitrates the 150 per acre imo would be very expensive, if for example you had 10 bales per acre the land rental would add 15 euro per bale which would make bale cost outrageous
advisor says 150 is going rate now , I suppose if you think about it , if land is making 400 an acre to lease 150 an acre for a cut of silage isn’t to steep .
Or very big money as he may come in spread an N product only and rob your land of P&K
