Starting a thread for 2025 gigs as they'll likely start rolling in.
I'll arbitrarily throw in Rob Beckett playing the Olympia on the 26th September 2025 which went on sale today.
The Fontaines did Custom House Square in Belfast 4 years ago, easily sold 5,000 tickets that day and have got infinitely bigger since then. The Ulster Hall gigs were part of the Skinty Fia tour doing relatively small gigs for them - Leisureland Galway, Milk Market Limerick, Millenium Forum Derry. It'll be a while before we see them in the likes of those settings again. They can easily sell 30k in Belfast, 40k at Marlay, etc. Don't underestimate their appeal on these islands.
Let the bodies hit the floor....... (Probably from the bang of BO off the crowd)
Andy bell from erasure doing solo including erasure classics
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
happy to see maccabees fitting in an irish date. thought they'd play a bigger venue though?
^ Indeed.. especially as they're headlining a 50K capacity festival in London this Summer - albeit a festival that rarely sells well:
Probably just don't have the fanbase here I assume.
Same night as Oasis in Croker might have something to do with it? Accommodation options for their fans are very limited and insanely expensive at this stage. Promoter probably didn't want to take a risk?
^ Yeah, that's a good point tbf!
I'm going to Oasis that same night, and the hotel price I paid is quite frankly mental! 😯
bill callahan in nch in July
FFS didn't realise this until now and I'm at Oasis that day. Would love to see The Maccabees, hopefully they play 16th too
Excellent with Vince at EP all those years ago.
Reviews of Ryan Adams in Belfast on Saturday seem poor to say the least,
wonder what his record of following a poor gig with a brilliant one for tonight in Vicar St is...?!
Am still scarred from Evan Dando ruining his legacy with me last October
I’m surprised, never seen him do a bad gig. Messy yeah, but always got it right n the end. Checked the recent setlists and they’re uniformly great. Enjoy it.
On the train up to Dublin for it now. Wish I hadn't read the Belfast reviews on the way. We'll see how it turns out I suppose.
Do bands playing down the bill at festivals like Altogether Now get passes for the whole event or would they get in the day they play and then be kicked out after?
depends how far down the bill and if they ask for weekend passes in lieu of payment or reduction in payment. Always a discussion between stage Booker and band/agent.
Adams has Epilepsy and Meniere's. He has long had signs (always VERY clear) at his gigs warning fans not to use flash photography as it could trigger a fit, or worse. Some people see those as a challenge and you cannot account for these selfish idiots. You can be certain that the security at Vicar St. will be on top of that tonight. In this instance any dissatisfied Belfast fans should be critical of those jeopardising the artist's health rather than berate the musician himself.
I'd fully expect a decent show.
Security in vicar can do little when it’s from the middle of the crowd. his shows for years have run the risk of being train wrecks. Too many instances of him being clearly drunk on stage. Attracts audience who purposefully heckle and use lights to annoy him.
New album out in June and a tour to support it!
Formerly a mess but sober for several years. Therefore anyone willing to pay €40/€45 to simply wind him up has their own difficulties.
In terms of security there’ll be plenty of notification regarding flash photography and anyone breaching it can be hauled out of the crowd, irrespective of where they’re seated/standing. It’s a matter of consideration for the artist. Not much to ask.
Just in the door from Ryan Adams. It was a good gig in fairness to him. I didn't see anyone use a phone at the show. That's probably the first time I've seen that happen at a gig since smart phones became mainstream. The crowd were very respectful. The Reddit thread I read about the Belfast gig seemed to suggest Adams wasn't in great humour from the off. No signs of that tonight anyway.
he hasn’t been sober for years sadly. Belfast was not only recent show where he was clearly intoxicated and he did a drunken rants on Instagram videos a year or so ago. you’ve evidently not been to vicar st when people crowd surf or something goes off. Security can barely get through the crowd downstairs, let alone identify and drag out a person causing mayhem.
Sober four years. Any evidence that he was drunk in Belfast or just third-hand gossip? He's an artist that doesn't require alcohol to be contrary. His personality and mixture of ailments that can be worsened by flashes (epilepsy, Merniere's) plus his tinnitus can be a volatile cocktail.
I observed Vicar St security at Leftfield nab a couple of people from the crowd. A damn sight easier at a more sedate Ryan Adams gig I'd wager.
Any feedback from Vicar St. from those there last night?
Setlist looks superb, and great covers. Seen him solo before but these days I'd only want him with a band. Seeing him do Heartbreaker with an entire crew would be a bit special.
BC Camplight doing dates around Ireland in November. Happy to see Galway and Limerick on the list
Ah delighted to see him back!
Excellent news, saw him in Workmans a few years back just him and his piano and it was superb, and the show in Whelans year before last was brilliant too
Ah shite no Irish show, tempted with Newcastle or Glasgow
Brilliant. Was gutted to miss the Whelans gig last year
Just in case you've not been to Brixton before, it's a brilliant venue. Saturday night too
