There we go that solves a large part of it also a big population increase in the Republic here as well
The UK have 2 million more cattle than Ireland but 63 million more people, there's always been a shortfall of beef in the UK, if this weather continues demand won't drop, every BBQ is getting fired up
A 6% rise in population, and a very roughly 4% fall in cattle numbers. Coupled with a 10% decrease in per capita consumption.
Yet total uk beef production rose from 900000 T in 2015 to 938000T in 2024.
So yeah as about as clear as mud.
Offered flat price of €8.15 for herefords and €8.20 for angus bullocks there this evening.rang another factor and was told there full for the week don't want stock at the moment
How are they full all of a sudden? You would imagine that will only last for so long
What was the grid price?
I am hoping they are full for tomorrow anyway as I am trying to source FRX & HEX store bullocks from the mart for grass, from then on I am hoping it sky rockets.
@weatherbyfoxer
Expect a call either Wednesday or Thursday afternoon to bring them on
I think they are playing the game now.
hardly emptying feedlots? Hoping to cap beef for a few weeks and increase store prices?
That’s what I was expecting, how long will it take to empty these feed lots?
Oh I don’t know about any of that. I just meant putting out the word that they don’t need cattle, fully booked, price going back etc.
I’d imagine they don’t like farmers being in this position. Where as before you would be offered a price and have no choice only to take it. Now every lad is saying back to them the €8 plus is not enough.
They’ll have every farmer that kills 2 or 3 animals every few weeks coming back to them. It’s a ploy to try and get a grip on mart prices. Feedlots can’t sustain the prices around the ring at the moment, if it’s stays going up it’ll be €12 a kg by July.
Cousin works in UK and is in and around a lot of farms there.
Self assessment financial year end was 05/04/2025. Some lads were telling him they were holding cattle to sell until the new tax year. Would mean they were scarcer to this point and might be more available from this week on again.
Cattle still scarce on both sides of the pond in any event......
Assuming that date is the same for the last number of years the same fellas would holding them last year and will be holding them next at the same dates so I wouldnt read into it.
Getting the media to help flush cattle out for a lower price.
It's a joke theses lads running with the first bit of a negative story 🙄. A lad who is feeding a fair few and is an agent/haulier said there will be an unreal pinch by may the way he sees it. He's not usually too far off.
If you are not restricted with tb just inform the factory that you are selling in the mart, the factory know its going to cost them more to get the cattle from the mart and you'll see that they are suddenly not full dont be intimidated by them
No let up in demand from the mart I was in today judging by the amount of NI lorry's ,brought home 23/26 mth old FR bullocks circa 510kg €2,000 as the last cattle needed for summer grazing, not cheap but lovely old fashioned British freisians in my opinion, I can upload some pictures if guys are interested, from what I see today the real hot stuff are Cull cows, coloured cattle 13/15 months 450/500 kg,finished AA.
yes please
what were the culls making
Any update on flat price for AAX heifers?
I just have four heifers fit and have an agent looking at them this morning.
If QA heifers....i would want minimum 8.50 flat....if going this week...
Next week..id want more..
Offered €7.80 plus €0.20 bord bia plus €0.30 bonus if R grade when I called him on Monday.
A n
eighbour sold a parlour cow 685kg €2,090,here is one of my own friesan bullocks from yesterday 510kg €2,000
Took 8.20 flat and free lorry for 13 he and 2 aa bullocks..was a struggle getting it too.Would expect 10c less next week from chatting difference agents and lorry men.Factory getting lots of cattle at the minute.
Would not want to listen to these timbook two stories in alot of cases of "8.50-9 euro flat to be got for freisian bullocks!"
Consensus is they won't drop a whole lot but will hold steady enough going forward for the rest of the year..I'd live with that myself to be honest, never thought I'd see €8 flat let alone €8.20 for these lads when I started feeding them
Judging By friesan mart prices the correct flat price should be €7.40/€7.85
It’s shocking how poor lads are at understanding the value of their stock. Coming out of the marts preaching about getting more than the factory price and they giving away cattle and not knowing the difference. Birr mart was an embarrassment last Monday with factory fit aax and hex selling for anything up to €400 a head less than their factory value.
Keep the factory fit cattle out of the marts lads or there’s not a hope the factories will stay rising the prices. Or at a minimum at least work out the value of your stock first. At €8.20 factory price you need to be getting above €4.40 live weight to be getting near factory value. Plenty of lads selling for €3.70 and €3.80 a kilo, pure madness.
It was a happy factory man that bought the following and there were plenty more at them prices too
I agree with you about most lads can't equate live price to factory value the main issue being that no 2 animals will kill at exactly the same ko % their is a big difference even in comrade animals
Most of your above examples were of non qa cattle and most high paying factories will not take them so those animals generally have to go to a low paying factory but if you look at cahir mart today you will see plenty angus making over 4.30 per kilo which would beat any lower offers by factories
At €4.30/kg live price of 600kg angus bullock will come into €2580..dead killing out at 55% sold at €8.20/kg flat the same animal is worth €2706
Fair twist for a lad who can do fast maths
