This super quick move from Launch to regular models is probably a reaction to the news of reduction in sales. An attempt to try and stop it from spiralling out of control perhaps.
Yet, if they get FSD / taxi working, they will be laughing all the way to the bank.
🤷♀️ At the moment we have boards users unable/unwilling to take a principled stand because the cars are so good….another 2800 off the already competitive price for a non-white colour (doesn't suit the Y shape to my eye) with better performance specs will likely tip a few more off the fence, have no doubt.
Granted, I'm not sure we'll necessarily hear about the purchases….because the neighbours etc.
skip in to almost 10 mins, really, REALLY interesting to hear what they’ve done to make it ride better.
For those interested in how the new Model Y drives
sounds like the main upgrade is the ride, and materials used inside? The old Y wasn’t a looker, but was a unique design at least - this design is ok/inoffensive, but is very generic, it could be any Chinese midsize family suv; I’m surprised they didn’t try a bit harder to differentiate themselves
It’s the new Tesla Kona G6…
I don’t mind the looks. It’s ok. Not gona set your life on fire. I like the light bar. Similar to VW and Mercedes. But what I don’t like is the current thread of having the headlights in a separate housing down lower. Not keen on that.
as a city dweller, I rarely if ever use full beams, so, given the massive safety/NCAP design limitations of the front of modern cars, I can kinda see why they all want to prioritise a ‘cool design feature’ over a potentially lesser used critical function
for anyone waiting.
Watching now, hope he doesn't get political like Derek at the end.
he doesn’t in fairness. Thought it was very balanced from @MarkN
Good review, mentioned a little of the competition but quite clear he'd pick this over an xpung, byd or a Nissan X-trail🙈 etc.
Really on the fence with this car, proably should be picking it over a model 3 seen as I have kids, Mark mentioned it, the driving position is high, I've sat behind the wheel of the juniper, it really had that mini van feel to it while the 3 can be like a go kart. Wonder which he'd pick. More space for the kids or more fun for dad?
The Y is mega for the kids. So much space but it does not drive as good as the 3, so don't let anyone tell you otherwise. The 3 handles great, its a point and shoot kind of car, the Y is a family crossover all day long. Even in AWD with AB or Performance trim, it still drives relatively like a family crossover.
Has anyone replaced the cabin air filters on your MY yet?
There's quite a lot of us took delivery in March 2023 and would be due to do this around now…
I've looked at the tutorial video, but still not sure which side it's on, as the one in the video is LHD.
Drivers side.
Thanks.
From memory you need 2. Model 3 did anyway.
I've 2 boxes with filters here on my to-do list. I'm going to wash and clean the car afterwards and charge myself €150 per hour.
That’s the easy bit. It’s paying yourself that’s the hard bit 😂
Buy a Y. Buy yourself something cheap/fun for dad. Everyone wins. Thanks for sharing the vid lads!
Has anyone test driven the new Model Y, i see a few Irish reviews, But would love to hear from ppl here that own a old Y and feelings on driving the new one.
I had a 3, swapped it for a Y after the first kid arrived. I wouldn't thrash it around corners now, you can feel it start to topple over the minute you go into a corner at anything marginally over a normal speed. But it's rapid in a straight line (I went from a RWD 3 to an AWD Y with acceleration boost) so that's enough fun for me while also being way more practical than the 3. No I way I'd swap back now, it's the only car in the family so we absolutely need the hatchback and extra boot space.
No test drives available yet. Only press cars out in the wild.
Edit. Seemly LHD test drives have opened today.
the cork showroom had a left hand drive for a couple of weeks, test drives were starting yesterday I think, had an email invention to book a drive.
Awd 251 model 3 popped up on the Tesla site at the right money so the kids can squish in the back for another couple of years. Picking up Monday or Tuesday.
Best of luck! Enjoy!
Tesla has very low centre of gravity. All the weight is in the floor. Hard car to topple over
Some showroom adjustments now showing on some of the Model Y Inventory…might suit someone who likes the older version and wants immediate delivery, free supercharging for a year and 0% apr . The drive is on to clear stocks ahead of arrival of new Model Y version..
This just dropped another €1000. Been keeping a keen eye on it! This or a 2023 iX3 🤔
Did you look at the Xpeng at all?, I'm curious about them!
Yes, me and a mate drove them back to back And @unkel done a really good review on one a few weeks back.
I just think if I’m buying at that price point, I’d stick to the tried and tested with tesla. Not fully on board with MSL and their commitment to retain these brands here long term. But I’m also waiting to see the AWD version myself so who knows.
I like the Xpeng, I think it looks well and there’s a few things I like about it better than the tesla. If I proceed with any of them, I’ll try them all again.
I had a 2022 iX3 MSport pro recently and a 2021 EQC 400 4Matic and they really jumped out at me too. A big change from the minimalistic tesla design, which I personally like, but they still made an impression. Not from a driving dynamics or performance pint of view, but more so from the premium/luxury point of view. Just had to decide what hat I want to wear for the next 12 months, the performance hooligan, or the old man cap.
Yeah wouldn't be gone on MSL myself, funny that you mention the EQC - I fancied one myself maybe this time last year,a stylish thing no doubt but a balancing act between badge and depreciation maybe ,the hooligan - old man thing haha enough said!(Loving my new M3 btw, it's a sporty little bugger!)
