did teagasc ever venture into breeding dairy bulls for ai or are they openly calling angus breeders idiots
Yer threading a fine line there reheating food a second time that was once most likely frozen before delivery to the schools to heat initially
The microbial florain the beard would nullify any harmful bacteria...
Could any of you please tell me, very roughly, what are friesian heifer calves 6-8 weeks old making now? Good genuine calves 😂😂
Would 50 be ok with you I'll take a bundle at that money 💰 🤑.......70 euros last offer 🤔
Complete idiots in the eyes of teagasc.
But they actually think the same about most dairy farmers
I'd be looking for 500? Mine are genotyped and pedigree.
yes they have put plenty of dairy bulls into stations from various different teagasc herds
who said he was reheating it😉
I know tirlan and lakelands process milk in the border counties and will argue for the 10%, have they any processing plants in the north? Or at least somewhere we could stick the union jack on!
I’ve 2 heifers calved and in the parlour since Feb but they’re only giving 9-ish litres each. I’m still milking OAD for various reasons but the other 26 are giving from 12 to 20 litres.
They’re getting 3kg meal in the parlour and out on grass full time. They’re offered silage at milking but aren’t interested.
The 2 in question aren’t that small (480-500kg) but one has 3 teats and the other has been a nervous creature since she was a calf. I don’t think they’ll ever pump out much milk.
Anyway that’s their story and I’m thinking of sending them to the factory and putting whatever they make towards 2 calved cows.
Before I ring the factory agent in the morning, does anyone have an idea what they might make? Would €6/kg be ball-park? They’re British FR types and have a decent flesh cover.
cull them …never a better time to cull poor performers
You wont get much in the factory they will be under the 250kg kill out, grade p-1 ,so canner price .
Better chance them in mart or if you want to learn the comparison ,1 to factory and 1 to mart
+1
Better in the mart
We buy a good few Friesuan heifers whether suitable or not suitable for breeding. They ate gone up in the last few weeks. Last one NSFB was a FRX, 260kgs bought for 290 euro, she was being tsucked by other heifers by the luck of her. Generally I am out of the .market with present prices.
Yearlings would be hitting 3/kg beef value at present
I go 150 if they were 3 weeks older
He was an excellent farmer, rented my farm for a good few years. He was a man with a very clear vision of what he wanted to do. I think the article has it perfect, when he wanted to step back a little the family had moved on and he had one excellent man, but the really good guy he had wanted to ease off a little too.
The crazy value of stock when he was retiring made it nearly impossible for anyone to take it on as a going concern.
He worked very hard but kept a good work life balance too. His father was a good farmer before him.
The history piece is an absolute passion with him. He adores it. It's great to see someone retiring to do what they're passionate about.
I be inclined fo finish them if I had the grass. Dry them off put them to grass and in 6-8 weeks time give them 3 kgs per day
Anyone know what milk price banks are calculating off at the moment cpl? Thanks
Slightly off topic, if you're getting a loan be sure to get serious illness cover along with life cover for the loan. You never know when it'll be needed.
will i see ya in ross today so ……
he wants to cash them in now to replace them with better stock. Good heifers/cows are going to cost 2500 now, at least. Those 2 heifers together might buy one good cow /heifer now
I’ll be watching online as I have been doing the last few Fridays 😁
I have the catalog and there seems to be plenty figures behind them.
I’m assuming prices will be as strong as other weeks
Very expensive, a friend had it all his life, he drew €120000 lately due to prostrate cancer,
He's in good health now, well off, so it's a nice bonus for him, he basically got nearly all his premiums back
I got an idea into my head lately to get life insurance… my premium is only €60/month and it covers me for 40 years, that’s with the “convertible” option included meaning even if I’m in the process of dying when the life insurance expires they have to offer me a new premium and can’t hold any existing illness against me… the payout is set at €1 million… I was calculating that the life insurance works out at €2/day for me so basically the insurance company are offering me odds of 500,000/1 on a daily basis for the next 40 years that I won’t die 😂
We were paying 265/month for the 2 of us. Oh loaded on that. My dad always had it drummed into me from his ifa days not to go for the diminishing value premium. So we claimed recently, loan paid off and a nice bit to make things easier for oh. Alot of pressure taken off for the price of a takeaway a week.
If you have a family you have to have life insurance if you've no assets, I just took a life insurance for twenty years to cover loans, I didn't need any more than that as it turns out thankfully.
I was cycling a lot at the time and was fit so the premium was very small
If you have no loans and mid fifties is it worth going for life Insurance.surely the premiums must be saucey at that age
I took it out for aib loan about 2 years ago, me and young lad. It's loaded for me. €450\ month covering 350k. Loan couldn't be drawndown without it . irish life recommended I keep the policy we cashed in going for me only, that's 90 euro per month now no loan against it just for me
Probably just ai bred out of high dbi ai bulls
