This is great news, as I really like Joe Molloy, but couldnt stand the rest of the OTB pundits. Starting next week, with a podcast each day I'd imagine they will do well.
Wonder how long it will stay free?
‘Indo Sport’ daily podcast, hosted by Joe Molloy, launches next week | Irish Independent
That's a bit harsh. It's intentionally an on the whistle instant reaction pod that's meant to be just to get across their immediate emotions. I listened to the episode and had no issues with it. The banging pans in the background didn't seem come across on the audio as much as in the stadium.
Andy Lee with a brilliant interview. Considering it’s his fighter that is fighting next week, he was incredibly open with his answers.
I'm only a casual boxing fan, I'd watch the big fights, Olympics etc..
I'd listen to Andy Lee all day though.
The interview with Thomas Barr was also very insightful. It's amazing how quick the time passes when listening to a good one on one conversation.
Any ideas where Joe has disappeared to in the last couple of weeks? I haven't listened to much without him hosting so I'm not sure if it's been mentioned.
He mentioned he was going to be off for a while and I'm sure he said "a few weeks". So should be back next week.
As like you, I'm a fairly regular listener but not when he's away. Far inferior offering.
I was getting worried that he had left but glad to hear he is coming back . His replacements were all pretty poor but as they are mainly print journalists we should cut them some slack. The Kissane lady is a very poor interviewer for someone who came the Broadcast media.
Dan McDonnell was a decent host the other day.
Dan hosts his own League of Ireland podcast with Johnny Ward called LOI Central which is very good also
Think he's on holidays...yeah that Kissane lady's accent does her no favours..very hard listen.
The non Indo Sport Indo GAA pod is really good, especially the hurling ones.
I think they need to have a bit better of a plan for when he is away, the others aren't really hosts and a more contributors.
It's also a timing thing - international break in soccer, 6 nations over but champions cup not back, GAA still at league stage - it's one of the quieter times from a sports perspective.
I did like the chat with the NFL kicker, my favorite parts of the show are where they interview people like that, the Thomas Barr one, the David Gillick one etc - I think breaking away from the grind of the ongoing sports can really freshen things up.
Ah lads Joe was way for paternity leave, the others are all as said above print journalist covering his leave.
Its hard to replace some one as professional as Joe just ask the OTB lads.
hope Pat Spillane becomes a regular. He’s very enjoyable in the more long format like this. Jesus he must watch some amount of football.
These lads are really hitting their straps now. They've the right people joining Joe for each of the pods and the various contributors that dial in keep it fresh.
Conor Mckeown is very easy listen to.
The David Forde interview was surprisingly great. He was generous with his time - feels like I know half of the book already. However, the designer for the book should change profession. Abysmal cover. Can’t make out the title and it looks like something you find in a bargain bin for 50 cent.
Wasn't a huge fan of Joe Molloy on Newstalk tbh but this podcast is really growing on me.
The David Gillick interview was excellent imho and not ruined by the lads banter that I hear every time I tune into Newstalk
He's a terrific interviewer and was always surprised OTB didn't lean into that more often.
Equally, would be good to have more on this pod, but understand it's probably difficult to book guests, usually they just come on to promote something.
Yer man from Derry, Conan something, has an extremely irritating voice.
Other than that I enjoy the podcast.
Really enjoy these pods, listened to a couple that I wouldnt normally such as David Gillick, Ken Doherty, the NFL guy and a few others. Think he is an excellent interviewer.
God Philly Mc is a very miserable contributor.
I felt he was always looking to provoke an argument with Spillane who would not bite at all. Which ties in with his on pitch persona.
I actually don't listen to it when Philly is on it anymore. He tried to be highbrow about why he didn't have time for the new rules and it was pure bs.
I also find it hilarious how many times I have heard he was in discussion for the Derry job, think it’s been mentioned on the pod the last 3 times he’s been on.
Any podcast he's on is an instant turn off for me. I even find his newspaper column irritating.
Liked the Munster final preview with Mullane and JOC.
Loved the interview with wooly. Always love listening to Parkinson. Not too many like him.
Gilroy falls out with everyone as far as I can see. Not a surprise really. Comes across a bell.
Woolly was class. He is wild, but he’s very straight.
