Car Park - Outside Porterstown Church

What's the story with all the white vans and road maintenance type crew cab lorries in the little car park on the Porterstown Road near St. Mochtas Church of late?

I cycle by it every day and for the past year there has been one private hire road sweeper parked but over recent weeks the amount of vehicles has been increasing to the extent it's now full with about 15 large vans and small lorries, some of which haven't been stirred for days on end. I guess the car park is council owned rather than by the church so there's nothing to prevent long term and regular parking but it's all quite unsightly in an otherwise fairly rural setting.

I’d noticed this as well!, pure speculation but my guess is they used to park in Annfield/Fernleigh and are no longer welcome or belong to new residents in these estates? Could be wrong though!

I made the mistake recently of parking in Annfield for 30 mins when I went to the park and got a sticky label on my window telling me not to park there as it’s a private development! I know maybe I shouldn’t have and I won’t do so again but was I breaking any laws. There are no official signs, I wasn’t blocking anyone or parking in anybody’s space. I was annoyed about the sticky label on the window which was a pain to get off!

Although you weren't causing an issue, if they didn't police the place, parking by non-residents might increase and become a problem.

Luttrellstown Chase is not a private estate and equally close to Porterstown Park.

As for the vans/trucks parked beside the church, the church might have given the okay (maybe they pay the church).

I guess they're not related to the works at the back of Porterstown Park, beyond the running track. I'm not clear on what is actually going in there.

Theres an FX Buckley van constantly there so maybe its residents in Anfield who haven't got the space to park vans/trucks

Why would you park there its not that near to it.

While the car park at porterstown is busy I've almost always got a space in it.

Couldn't agree more. It's turned into a defacto commercial van carpark.

That car park used to be used for the church. I guess this is why it's added pressure on the church car park.

Why the council decided to increase the usage of Porterstown Park and not fix the car parking seems crazy. It really needs to separate the in and out gates. A lot of the traffic is drop offs and pickups.

The bend in the road just east of the ped lights is a challenge though they could make that an IN gate and the current one the OUT gate. You should ask a local councillor to ask if there are such plans.

Not much of a bend. Badly needs speed ramps considering all the pedestrians and children crossing the road.

They put an excessive amount of vicious speed ramps in the car park.

Crazy they've sat on their hands here..

If you were to exit from beside the pedestrian crossing it would be difficult to see cars from the right. Even as a pedestrian I have to lean out a bit from the path.

The speed limit on Porterstown Park is to be reduced from 60km/h to 50km/h. If that doesn't work then they will consider speed ramps.

I think that there's 3 ramps in the main car park. Hartstown Park car park has 9!!

I noticed recently there's a number of no 24hr parking and no bus/lorry parking signs in this section. The number of long terms vans/lorries parked has reduced considerably but still nearly always a couple parked there early morning.
