Tesla girls.... haven't heard that on the radio in about 40 years....
it’s on Rte hold regularly
I'm an avid listener and it was a first for me.
you should listen to RTE Gold more ….
I listen every day across the day.... although I don't listen to Ronan Collins so maybe that's the reason.
Will plays 99 Red Ballon’s in German this morning and now Carol plays the English language version. I suppose it’s not technically playing the same song twice in 8 hours but……anyway now Tony Christie is jumping between verses
Creedon on radio 1 also played the german version only 2 weeks ago
It was Nena's birthday
couldn’t they play her other hits?
I had a look at Wikipedia and it distinguishes between Nena as a band and Nena as a solo artiste. As part of a band, Nena had that massive hit with 99 Red Balloons. That was her only hit as such in the UK and the USA (I'm sure it is the same for Ireland). The only other song that charted in those two countries (as a group) was Just a Dream, which reached #70 and #102 in the UK and US charts, respectively. So, unless you want to delve into European hits for Nena, there are no other hits that could be played.
Similar with Alice Cooper, Manfred Mann, Marilyn Manson and others.
similar in what way?
Bands named after, or sharing their name with, the frontperson.
I suspect that GSF was making a joke. Could be wrong.
I do remember the bargain bin of record shops being full of the Nena 99 Red Balloons album
Except that in the case of Mannfred Mann he was the keyboard player and not the front person in the various iterations of bands using his name.
she did have one other big European hit though didn’t she? Just a Dream was recorded in English. She could have had more UK hits if it wasn’t for her armpits 😳
There’s a dance mix of 99 balloons too!
I suppose my original point was that Rte gold say they don’t play the same song twice in a week
Just to say with respect to this morning's top ten that 1960 wasn't exactly a golden year for music, when you have "My Old Man's A Dustman" and "What Did Della Ware?"
True ,pre Beatles UK era wasnt great but early Cliff and particularly The Shadows were great!
it’s about as far back as Rte Gold will go except for the Sunday 9am slot
M
Without Lonnie Donegan you probably wouldn't have The Beatles!!!!
Indeed. But singing American blues, not "Does your chewing gum lose it's flavour on the bedpost overnight".
are they making a bit of an effort with the Jukebox show for once this weekend asking for requests ?
I noticed promos for that too. requests by e-mail though at this late stage, does that mean the show tomorrow will be live?
when does Aidan normally record it ? I always assumed during the week.
"In The Mix Since '86"
"Giving You The Full 12 Inches"
I have to say I do enjoy the last DJ show of the weekend on Gold, The Golden Years with Eric Moore. It's only an hour but he fits a lot in, with some great tunes/remixes I've never heard before. I've taken to throwing on the headphones and taking myself for a walk before dinner. Takes the edge off a Sunday somewhat!
The weekend shows are very enjoyable, but ABC to XTC and The Golden Years are particularly good.
Eric has recently become the voice of many in-house promos on Mid West Radio in Co. Mayo - as he says in one of the promos for a local charity "sharing the care since '96" - so quite a similar tag line to his own show promos !!
Radio 1 now broadcasting .came on at 3pm in the middle of a song i was enjoying!
Over now.they must have read this!
Heard that. They had a nightmare at the weekend. Emergency tape kicking in at 1pm for 5 minutes as well. Can’t seem to handle top of the hours without some sort of drama.
Listening back to ABC to ATC, I mishread the lyrics to Aha's "Living in a Boy's Adventure Tale" was "Living in a Poisoned Tale"… :)
It is actually called Living a Boy's Adventure Tale! I heard it too! Great tune. I first heard it many years ago on Capitol Radio - it was the only station I heard it on until John Connolly played it.
