Not sure if it's been mentioned here before but has anyone tried the Takomo clubs, seem to be getting great reviews online
Got a set of the 101's and very happy with them. I'm an improving 16 handicap and was looking for forgiveness, distance and something which looked stylish at a good price point. They ticked all the boxes for me and I'm very happy with them.
The only complaint I have is it took ages to get them, like 4 months or something that as they seem to be out the door with orders.
Did you happen to get any wedges? And how would they compare if so? Mine need upgrading and was considering trying them out.
It's a long time since I upgraded my wedges, I'm pretty sure Vokeys were about half the price they are now, when I did.
They are beautiful looking clubs.
Wedges look great value. Good reviews too. Pity that they don't have more loft options , only 52,56,60 at at moment
48 is available as well. The price is great, but the postage does bring them in line with mid-range wedges. It think it was approx €140 to have a 48 delivered to Ireland when I was messing around on the site yesterday.
Edit: €126 in total. €89 for standard wedge and €37 postage.
That postage is crazy if only buying a single club , wipes out the initial saving made
No, I bought 3 x Taylor Made wedges a year ago (50, 54 & 58) and am very happy with them. Also happy that the gap between the 50 and the PW of the 101's is spot on.
Ya when I was looking at their website I noticed the majority of their PW lofts were 46 degree, but they only offered wedges in 48, 52 to blend into set
Strange not to have a 50 deg available as you'd think 4 degree gaps is a common set make up
Back to an old topic I started. Still curious if anyone else here has tried out the Takomo irons? Price is great but obviously the downside is not being able to get a look at them first. I don't know anyone using them so have never actually seen them in the flesh. Still getting great reviews online
met a lad at the range who had a set of 101
Initially I thought they were blades.
He is back playing after an accident and was previously off 2 H/C
I had a few shots and they came off like a rocket.
Have been tempted myself since.
Ya the price is very good really for what seems to be an excellent set regardless of which model you go for. Limited shaft options but Kbs have almost got something to fit most golfers. With the way prices are going with the major brands it's definitely worth considering.
The question is whether to go for a new set from somewhere like Takomo for the €580 or go with a second hand set from the main manufacturers for the same money.
Rick Shiels does a good review of them here.
Interesting that a 2h/c would be playing their high handicap/game improvement irons. I looked at the 101T with a wedge which comes out to €589+€89+€55 postage=€733. There are new club alternatives around like TM Sim2, Cobra Aerojet, Callaway Mavrik and Wilson around this price point. These guys are good for reviews.
I'm eyeing up the 101Ts as well, interested if anyone's been playing with them how they found them
I bought the 101's in 2023 as I'm a 15 handicap looking to improve and love them.
I've an apartment in Spain and actually bought a 2nd set with the 4 wedges (48, 52, 56 & 60) for €900 delivered there and am delighted with them, great to have the same set at home and in Spain.
Didn't realise that their postage is so high, not great
he was recovering form an accident and was getting back into it slowly.
In the end I chickened out, and got a Cobra set instead from a bricks and mortar shop. At least I got to see the clubs and hit a few balls before I bought them.
I've a set of 201s + 48 wedge + 60 wedge being shipped. Realized I should have got a 56 wedge but it's too late to change the order, so if anyone (Dublin based) is ordering and can add a wedge to their order i'd be grateful!
Sorry shakedown, just seeing this now and I stuck in an order only last week and could've helped you out!.
How long did your order take? I'm seeing reports of 8 weeks going around..already getting itchy
What did you go for?
My new irons are arriving on Thursday, 5 and a half weeks after ordering give or take.
Was a little aspirational with my choice and went with the 301CBs. Plus an inch, midsize grips and Kbs Tour stiff shaft.
Would love to get properly fitted some day, but that's my own trial and error fitting for now. Have been attempting swing changes this winter as well, so everything is going to be very alien while everything beds in for the next few weeks
No problem. I ordered off the shelf (no customisations), so it took less than 2 weeks to deliver. Got a few general emails from them while waiting and have heard lots of stories lately about there being a huge influx of orders the past few months, so to expect delays.
It's been 4 weeks for me now with no email updates of any description, nobody minds delays, but a little communication would go a long way.
I've ordered a set of 101s, a struggling 18 HC so need all the forgiveness I can get.
Currently using Sub70 699 pros which seem to be an equivalent of the 201s..little aspirational for me yet
Did you buy the Sub 70 directly from US?
No, would you believe I actually won them in an online competition!
Meant for a better player than me though!
I've seen their stuff online, looks good but a bit prohibitive as you'd have to pay duties which would bring price up to same as other brands.
I'd be interested in how you find them when you get them. Been considering the 101Ts myself
Yes i'll let you know when or if I ever get them! €550 including delivery for a customised set of irons is really hard to sniff at, don't mind waiting a few weeks if they are the equivalent of some of the big brand stuff like they say they are.
Mostly the YouTube influencers who have been pushing them hard, just hope it's not all a big grift!
Think since the YouTubers got involved with the company, Grant horvat and the Bryan Brothers, the level of orders has increased dramatically and they haven't been able to keep up with the demand leading to long waiting times.
Think they've always struggled to fulfil orders, particularly where you're custominsing beyond the standard combinations e.g. longer shafts with thicker grips etc.
I ordered my 101's in 2022 with KBS Tour Lite Regular shafts and Lamkin Crossline midsize grips and ended up waiting 11 weeks for delivery.
Frustrating wait but love the clubs.
