Starting a thread for 2025 gigs as they'll likely start rolling in.
I'll arbitrarily throw in Rob Beckett playing the Olympia on the 26th September 2025 which went on sale today.
Good booking. Pity about the venue though.
yes i am also - it reminds me of a december gig in the amdassador in 2003
Honestly don’t get the hate, good location, good sound and good views from any location in the audience. Quick enough bar service. a few extra portacabin toilets in the smoking area are needed to help with toilet queues but that’s it.
I agree entirely. I would imagine you keep good company who would stand by their values, similar to most people on here and would avoid gigs by those types of artists.
My point is that a Kanye West gig in the 3Arena would sell out tomorrow. Not everyone who would attend would endorse fascism or far-right beliefs, plenty would abhor that mindset - but that wouldn't stop them attending because they like the music.
Virtue signalling is defined by the OED as "the action or practice of expressing one's views or acting in a way thought to be motivated primarily by a wish to exhibit good character, social conscience, political convictions, etc., or to garner recognition and approval." - So in this instance, people will clearly denounce Chris Brown's actions as a thug and a domestic abuser… But still go to the gig. So their intolerance or dissatisfaction of his actions ultimately means nothing.
not sure about kanye’s pull even a decade or so ago. The second watch the throne show had discounted tickets and had mcd handing envelopes of them to people. The marlay park show with Kanye and pharrell in 2014 was not exactly busy by marlay park standards
I was really into them back then but too broke to go see them at the time. Really looking forward to this one.
That's fair enough and certainly one of those things I'd love to be wrong about. That said, Chris Brown selling nearly 40,000 tickets two years ago suggests the sentiment is still there.
Tickets bought for Mick Flannery in the 'exclusive' venue of Buncrana Cinema at end of May! Really looking forward to seeing him, & intrigued by the venue.
Anyone hear of this group? Thinking of going. Local venue. Streamed some of the music. Fits the bill of alt folk, I guess, alright.
I'd almost go just to see where Kinnegar beers are made. Rustbucket, Limeburner and Big Bunny - really top quality beers from a small Donegal brewery.
I wouldn't say hate just don't really rate it as a music venue personally. It's a boxing stadium at the end of the day. Old fashioned facilities and layout isn't great.
That not an over-reach? Previously much smaller venues or festivals here. Reliably great when I've seen him so hopefully he'll fill the place.
Weirdly, I've bought tickets for two gigs in the Stadium since they started using it again on a regular basis; Bret McKenzie and Maya Hawke. Both tours were cancelled outright (though the former retained two UK shows, I think).
Is the Liberty Hall Theatre being renovated or temporarily closed or something along those lines? Or are gigs that would have recently been there now being booked to the Ambassador?
Have found it a fantastic venue for comedy gigs in the last couple of years but it seems as if there's no gigs (at all) after May of this year. Would be a shame if its no longer being used as its brilliant.
Agreed re Kanye and Chris Brown.
In terms of the phrase 'virtue signalling' its incessant utilisation by the far-right is why I object to it. It's used to disparage anyone exhibiting a social conscience or displaying empathy with any race, creed, gender, etc deserving of it. It would be applied by said reactionaries to describe both of us in this very conversation.
As good as Irish craft beer gets. Thumper & Devil's Backbone also recommended. In fact the whole lot are worth a try.
Some remedial works going on. Mcd have ambassador to fill every night cause Dublin Corp threatening them over it being idle.
Well, every day is an education! Thanks, I'll definitely erase that from my vocab so 😊
Looks like Catfish for Belsonic if Van decides to turn up
I'd honestly be one of the people who would pay to see Kanye tomorrow and he does have a pull hes on something like 63m listeners a month on Spotify, his discography is pretty solid I can't really name a bad album aside from the latest stuff he's releasing after all the manic episodes, I'm like something in the top 1% 😂😂😂
Back in the early 2020's he was selling stadiums to just listen to his music, think even recently he was selling stadiums in China to pretty much listen to his new music, he did a stadium show with Drake not too long back as well and was going to headline Coachella before he backed out of it,
He's one of those artists that if it wasn't for his deplorable actions and being an all around horrible person would probably be up their with other artists in being able to pack out stadiums and be a brand in his own right, but yeah as of recently I'd be more concerned of his mental state than him playing live which isn't going to happen, shame alright how his life turned out, he's a very hard artist to separate the art from the artist as their intrinsically linked
5 headliners announced for EP are
Sam Fender
Chapelle Roan
Kings of Leon
Hozier
Fatboy Slim
I'll take it, buzzing I called kings of Leon
Anyone got the artist presale code for this?
That's pretty good.
Whilst it's not for me, that's a very strong announcement, fair play.
Looks like the Rewind Cork event (Toyah, Tiffany, Go West, Boyzlife, ABC, Matt Goss and Squeeze) has been cancelled. My sister is gutted, she's a massive Squeeze fan and lives just across the road. Nothing confirmed anywhere it seems, but the gig is showing as cancelled in Ticketmaster now.
And yet there is a ring of truth to the phrase. I see it all the time with friends and strangers, pro-Palestine and all the rest. Would they go on a march, boycott goods or alter their behaviour in any way? No. So i'm happy to continue using 'virtue signalling' when applicable.
First year I decided to go to it and I'm happy enough with the lineup,
with work I couldn't go to Sam Fender so that's sorted and I couldn't go to Kings of Leon last year so had to sell my ticket, buzzing they're playing,
Ive seen Hozier when he did those rehearsals in the Academy so I'm happy out to see an actual show,
Chappel Roan will be a spectacle alright I'd say, only know two songs but I think to just witness the crowd will be unreal alright
I guess this will free up a few Dublin tickets for resale as those in the UK will opt to attend closer to home.
Even though it was left idle for years on end until quite recently?
I'm well out of touch with the kids, but Chappel Roan is massive, isn't she? I'd say it'll be mobbed
Pretty sure I saw she was the bookies favourite for next year's Superbowl, so getting her to an Irish festival seems a bit of a coup
And Fender, KoL and Hozier would be a fine set of headliners by themselves
Sure, Fatboy Slim will press play anywhere that pays, but he's always fun too
Enjoy!
