Is right. Might as well hold out for €8 now !!!
Online won't show you faults with an animal though, e.g. poor feet, bad carriage etc., especially if the owner doesn't declare them. Mightn't give you a hint either about the temperament of the animal, or who is bidding against you.
I'd definitely be in the opposite corner, wouldn't like to buy an animal unseen.
I could have 200 animals bought in the last year. I’d say I’d have seen 20-30 of them before I’d have them bought. There was an issue with two out of the 200. One lad I copped him when picking him up and The mart took him back. The other lad was announced but I didn’t hear it at the time. It was no big deal anyway.
Biggest issue these days is cattle with horns. Often hard to see on the screen.
MaYbe you are buying really good quality ones cavanjack they seem to be easier to pick on screen than the plainer type animal....???
No issues at all since online, that's not to say it will happen. In my part of the world the usual heads around the ring don't like farmers bidding. So I'm not getting into a staring match or an ego game with those people. Another advantage is in larger pens of dairy cross cattle you can flick to see if actual amount of JEX breeding in the pen.
You get very used to the screen after buying a lot of cattle off it.
Yeah you are. Probably right. I’d buy all continental’s.
Ah you get used of online fairly quick. But what I have learned to avoid is the groups. It can be hard to spot the dodge in a group over 4. Whereas around the ring you will pick him out handy enough.
I buy a mixture of plain and other cattle R,O and P grade cattle. Do I buy a hlugger now sbd again, yes no matter how good you are around the ring everyone gets caught now an̈d again. However on the plus side we buy some tremendous value every now and again.
I prefer the laptop to the phone. However I buy off both. I never worry who I am bidding against. The auctioneers knows our history and know we drop cattle very fast. We can bid on multiple marts every day. No hanging around marts No bringing home an empty trailer
It's gas, will be paid by bank transfer on the day, for a load of cows going Thursday told them they weren't getting them if they didn't
Wow i asked for that last summer with a large load and was told they never do that!
What ko % are you expecting for each cow, are you able to compare mart price for fat cows to factory price, did you ever hear of the saying their are several ways of killing a cat you need to be wary of sudden generosity by certain people
You would be nervous waiting on a cheque at the moment. One place used take over a week to send cheque.
Some factories u be waiting at least a fortnight
Only clear of tb so was always going to factory them and no my faith re legions in the one hit, they done well enough all cows where still milking up to this morning
What's the minimum carcass weight and fat score that you didn't get 6.50 across them all
250kgs plus deadweight and p 2 plus fat score, their was 3 horrible yokes on it, that dragged the price down, the base was 6.60 whatever way the haulage was worked out it took 10 cent of base price
Who is right????
Adam Woods; 29% increase in r3 bullock
Agriland; 34% increase
This most recent publication in Agriland and Farmers Journal in comparative bullock price 2024 versus 2025. Poor research on behalf of one or both journalists.
7.20 fr blks 24 months old. Agent said it will rise next but my man said he needs the cheque this week. Kepak
What type of bullocks? That’s on the grid? What is he exspecting it to rise to next week?
The 7.20 is that including our plus vat, only after realising here with vat included the vast majority of the cows I killed Thursday where making 6.80 a kilo including vat, the vat element was worth 30 cent a kilo of a top-up
Heard of €7.50 flat price for u grade continental bullocks.
Heard of 7.70 flat for small number of aa bullocks.
Neighbour offered 7.10 for same FR.
Never heard of a factory agent quoting ex-vat. its 4.85 on a price like that its 31C/kg.
I got €510 flat last August for freisians and I thought it was a great price and might never be got for a long time again! Gladly I was wrong!
7.80 flat now for Angus, from what I heard last night
They be €8 in 2 weeks so. Seems to of gone up 20 cent weekly for the last few weeks. I had average Angus's in the factory this week. Came into around 2 k. Bought in last spring for under €600.
I bought a few last Autumn for 755. They will hang in next couple of weeks for 2k. Unbelievable stuff.
When you mean €8 is that for Angus flat or any stock? I hope this lasts till August anyway
And what’s your plan then? Will you make extra silage since you have less cattle to graze or just purchase early in the year?
id say what profit you will make you never done it in your lifetime before??
No never saw the likes of it. I'm not really set up or efficient winter finisher. Tried it last year and made 60 to 80 net per head. Said ill never do it again. This year is looking like 800e net ph. The only reason I did it this year I could see prices taken off at Christmas.
Honestly don't know what to do. Still thinking of playing the market. See the price of eggs gone through the roof in France as ppl finding beef too expensive.
