So I saw another poster asking around for the older 43kW AC chargers and that got me thinking, how long until we start seeing EV chargers in museums?
Examples like the old Chademo only units or the 50kW triple heads, or those ESB destination chargers
I think there was a bit of a home grown industry in home chargers for a while back around 2018 as well
I hope someone is collecting a few examples of them, they could be put in the transport museum or something
I've never used one, but how does an AC charger give 43kwh? Is it just a max theoretical speed but only gives what the car will accept, I.e. 7, 11 or 22?
Or is the 43 set up to have 2 x 22 plugs or something?
It's just like a 22kW 3 phase charger but with more current, 63A max I think
The first public chargers (AC, possibly 7 kW) were a nondescript thin grey pole. This was in around 2010 and they were replaced a year or two later. I highly doubt that EV chargers will be preserved in museums!

The only car that I know that can charge at 43kW AC here is the early Renault Zoe, and then only the Q210 model. All other Zoes can AC charge at 22kW. Which is very handy in Ireland as there are more of those charge points than there are petrol stations!
You'd be surprised, there's plenty of small collections of vehicles around the place, wouldn't be a stretch to see an EV museum at some point
Found this beauty of electric transportation in a shed in Wales last year
I had a thread about a Sinclair C5 a few years ago, found one from the family of the original Irish owner. Literally a shed find. Got it back working again and replaced part of the electrics and installed a lithium battery. I'm sure you will find my thread
Richard from electric classic cars in Wales recently did the same
not an EV question as such………………………..in general, how long would a demo car be used by a garage for? I guess something like max 6 months?
I bought a demo that was a year old. There were other ones there of about the same age.
I would say a year max, most manufacturers would have an updated model every year so they probably sell the older demo models around then
I think they also use the demo cars as pool vehicles for customers and staff, so they might be out of circulation for a while
What's the consensus on the 2022 Kia EV6. Any problems worth talking about?
EV6 ICCU failure is somewhat common and can cause the car to be off the road waiting on a new part that has months of delays to supply. I don't know any more Google it yourself. If you but a car with good warranty it would not be a massive risk, especially if it has already been replaced. There is a whole thread of EV6 owners.
Hi, I am based in Galway.
Is anyone aware of a company that will come to a location and do a quick test on an EV battery status of health? plug in the relevant dongle and just do a quick check of the battery
Gentle bump on this. 😬
Might be no harm posting what car.
There are probably loads of people with Leaf Spy for example that would be near you.
If its something more exotic or expensive, then maybe a paid service will be required.
I used them for my cupra born, I'm in Dublin though so was handy.
They were advertising for nationwide testers though.
thanks. It could be any car really as looking at a few different cars. Nissan, Volkswagen, Kia, Hyundai etc.
which company did you use?
The one Gumbo linked above, batterychecked.ie
Thanks. I think he linked 3 companies so was just double checking which of the three you used.
Oh sorry I just recognised the one I used and didn't spot the others
You should really learn how to do this yourself using your own phone. Makes securing a good deal on the day more likely.
Typically an android phone is best. Typically you need a Bluetooth obd dongle. Go for a proper branded one. LE link brand is probably best as it works with leaf but also should work with other cars too.
Apparently the price of filling an EV has come down... Haven't noticed myself but can anybody confirm or deny?

Ionity is now 70c/kWh, I feel like it was 73c until recently
Something I've noticed recently, when you see an article about EVs in the news in Ireland it often seems to be a VW EV in the picture
I'm speaking about general news here, not model or brand specific articles. Recent articles about EV chargers rollouts seem to often have an ID.4 pictured
Has anyone else noticed this or is it just me?
I'm guessing VW are putting in a big marketing push to ensure their EVs are front and center.
I've also noticed they've a bunch of company branded vehicles around the place which probably feeds into that
Good on them for putting effort into marketing their EVs, but it'd be nice if they also put some of that money into their service departments. Why can't VW owners have a ranger service like Tesla 😬
I can't believe the Heathrow substation fire hasn't been blamed on EVs yet!
I can do it myself on a leaf. I dont have an android phone. I have a carista dongle for my old leaf
However, this does not seem to work with models such as hyundai, kia, volkswagen etc and then each car probably needs a different app and maybe paid for. So yeah iots possible, but may cost money and I may not have the knowhow to properly check it for each model. and maybe iphone does not support it, so not overly easy.

Another day, another vehicle outside dealz in Rathfarmham blocking a charger. Was putting shopping in the car earlier and there was a Yaris there. Went away and 5 minutes later this beemer is here.
You'd think the massive green painted bays on the ground would be a giveaway.
Wondering will there ever be any type of law/legislation brought in to make this an offence?
For the life of me, I don’t know why they out these chargers closest to the entrance. Put them away from the entrance. They won’t be abused then.
It’s the same for the easy go near me. I don’t use it but every time I drive by cars blocking them. Creche, council building and gym all in the same entrance than the 4 chargers are the closest spot to the doors!!!
