Experience moving an older child into gaelscoil (primary school)?

Wondering if there are any parents or gaelscoil teachers who have experience of moving an older child (going into second class- age 7) from English primary school to Gaelscoil? How was the transition, did they struggle much with language changeover and catching up? Would appreciate any thoughts.
They have very little Irish from their current school. We have the basics - Irish to leaving cert level many moons ago.

Some Gaelscoileana don’t take older children as it can be difficult for the child to catch up academically . It also has social implications, Irish being the language of the yard as well.

It can work really well, if the parent and child are willing to make it work . I do wonder about removing a 7 year old from one school and sending them to a new one , leaving their friends behind , though .

I’d suggest you make an appointment to visit the school with your child , if possible . If you are planning the move for September, find out if there are any campaí samhraidh or activities run in the school over the summer .
