the harsh reality is that Crowley’s kicking isn’t good enough to be international 10. Maybe if we had a Ramos or a Lucu who also take kicks but we don’t so for me he’s an impact sub for the near future.
So what was the excuse today then? They got cut apart consistently with Crowley on the field.
Regarding Crowley to become a top tier Outhalf his goalkicking has to be at least 85/90 consistently which is not what he is achiving at the moment even at club level .
Another 4/5 year, fantastic performance again this year.
Wasn’t just the back row. Didn’t think Beirne or Ryan were great today. Thought Joe McCarthy had a good impact when he came on.
Lemoncello , tastey as usual
It's a lot of babble, but I think the award is for best player in their first Six Nations campaign.
A general review is always carried out after each tournament. The performance of every official is thoroughly assessed.
We aren't privy to the results of these reviews, but the reviews do happen.
Frawley was messed up by bouncing around 12 and 15 and never getting the chance to play 10. Too late for him now, utility back and possibly sub 10 option in a 6-2 split. Can’t do it for another player. If it is thought that a Tector could be an option in the 10 depth chart Leinster need to be told to play him and release the Byrne brothers. There will be plenty of chances with SP with Ireland. I don’t know if he will be good enough but the older 10s are not good enough and we can’t make do with just 2
He has absolutely not been messed around by not being played at 10, he is not played at 10 because he is not a good 10. His career has been saved by him becoming a utility back that provides great bench cover.
Ringrose and Hansen both had nightmares in defence today. Defensive coaching also seems to be an issue, the system is all over the shop.
I don't think McCarthy had much impact really. My only memory was him dithering in front of a bouncing ball near the end allowing Italy to claim it and put us under pressure.
Beirne's form has dropped off too and Ryan didn't make much impact. The forwards in general have taken a backward step.
A second six nations where we start relatively well, and then finish by flopping over the line. Concerning. Today we got to see that the issues we face are not solely at the feet of Sam Prendergast, and are, in fact, a system wide issue. We've got so many world class players who are now playing at such a poor level that the coaching ticket has to be the one with major questions to answer.
The fact is that we managed to win 4 out of 5 games, which would be cause for celebration in most years, but this year it seems so hollow. The expectations are much higher, and the standards that we now expect were missed by a large margin. We simply didn't play well over the course of the tournament, and that, in my opinion, is not down to the players, but the coaching.
Fair enough if that's the selection criteria.
the mad thing is we won four out of five and got 19 points, exactly the same as last year.
One was a triumph, the other a bitter failure.
I think the reality is both were somewhere in the middle.
Today was bad though
Might be best to clarify who you're referring to.
For the avoidance of doubt.
it has never been so obvious that Crowley should have started the 6 nations as the main 10 and prendergast on the bench. Start prendergast against Italy and wales. if Ireland do that there is no doubt we would be now grand slam champs. naive ignorance from Farrell has screwed us over.
he’s talking about Frawley
Did you watch the game today?
You have got to be joking? I don't even know where to start with this, but we didn't lose to France on the basis of the 10 and we were pretty awful today.
Farrell also wasn't the coach.
Put away the fishing rod
does not matter. We beat France we are now grand slam champs. Crowley was great today , his kicking was poor because he has not kicked all championship, Pendergast took that role. Farrell by trying to Usurp Crowley, he did untold damage to the panel.
You don’t start boys against men, you wait until the men are tired and then you bring in the boys.
I don’t think I’ve seen Beirne be as anonymous over the course of a 6N since he came into the team. Usually he’s good for a couple of big turnovers/moments a game, take that away and he looks quite ordinary as he’s not a great carrier and not sure his ruck work compensates. You’d look at his minutes played in the last few seasons and hope it’s that as opposed to age catching up on him.
Crowley was great?
So you didn't see the game so
Blatantly baiting aside, Crowley was not great today. He was average at best, and far less involved in play making than Prendergast was in his starts. He kicked poorly also.
He was hopeless. Couldn't kick snow off a rope.
the decision along with other daft decision like announcing the retirements pre France, it’s been a **** show.
A complete shambles.
Need a bit more competition for places in that team and when were playing against big packs like France we may need to rejig the team, playing both VDF and O'Mahony in the same backrow is not ideal power wise, someone like Timoney, Izzy need to be given more of a chance.
Im ok with today, they won ugly. Momentum is clearly important, look at how we comfortably overcame England early on but the reversal in fortunes between the teams. The big games, particularly that ten minute period v France have to be excorcised for the team to move forward. They need a markee win in a similar situation against a France or South Africa, to prove to themselves that they have the answers to it. Leinster winning in Europe would be a good start.
Alot of English lads putting their hand up during this 6 nations...
Alot of Irish lads doing the opposite....
