Sure you can't be doing ambitious stuff in Ireland and getting notion concepts such as denser urban living, public transport and green energy generation.
Has anyone heard anything about the apartments on Redforge road in Blackpool? The ones at the old petrol station. Last I heard they were supposed to be started at the beginning of November. No sign of anything happening at the moment.

Immensely disappointing. Our total lack of reliable public transport options certainly didn't help... they assumed everyone would drive??
Chicken and egg. They'll delay and obfuscate ant public transport infrastructure now because there isn't the population density of course
Apparently the building on Washington street where flame was is being turned into apartments.
ABP really hate Cork developing or something?
Take years to scupper plans on something which they could decide in minutes
The lack of concrete action on public transport projects coming home to roost.

LDA proposal brochure for 350 homes at ESB Wilton. Apartments upto 7 storeys and townhouses at the western boundary with the existing houses.
Really good suburban infill.
Houses on the market by early 2029
Looks great. A shame they can't share St Joseph's entranceway, it would have freed up a few extra metres and provided a fast walk/cycle route to CUH.
Both that and the new O Flynn Ballinglanna development (at Dunkettle) look like very good efforts at providing dense housing in a reasonably sustainable way.
CorkBeo are claiming the hospitality and retail offering in the former Roches Stores is to open in the spring or summer. No source
The resubmitted application for demolition of St Joseph's convent site on MFR and building of student accommodation has been given green light. Interesting that they also gave the OK for temporary letting during summer - this was precluded for several of the earlier student accommodation projects when they were being approved.
In a condition on the granting of planning permission, Cork City Council said the development at the former St Joseph’s Convent on Model Farm Road can be used as tourist or visitor accommodation during academic holiday periods but “shall not be used for permanent residential accommodation, as a hotel, hostel, aparthotel or similar” without seeking further planning permission first.

Based on previous history, this approval will most likely be appealed/delayed further.
There is a now Loftus Demolition sign and skip in front of the old Kelleher's Tyres building (nearest HSE), so maybe a sign of movement? All 3 sites are planning approved.
Loftus also on site in Blackpool milfield.
New road markings have been added on Rochestown Road saying “No Right Turn” into Douglas Court
Wasn't that always signposted as such?
There was a sign, but not road markings
So that's the road repainting used up for the year. I'd have preferred by the Elysian or Penrose Wharf but one is better than none.
Were people actually doing that even though the entrance faced towards the finger post
Yup - I confess to doing it , it's not difficult,
I won't stop there , or wait for oncoming traffic to pass ,but if there's a gap ..
Yeah, if nothing coming and no one close behind, I've done it.
However, I've never taken the illegal right turn onto Christie Ring Bridge. I guess that's because the alternative (legal) route comes before the illegal turn. As in, on the Rochestown road, if it's not feasible to take the turn without obstructing anyone, you just go the way you should be going anyway. But by the time you get to Christy Ring bridge, your option to go the correct way was way back by the bus station. So people obstruct, block and blow through the red light all the time rather than ending up crossing at North Gate Bridge.
Crossing at NGB when trying to get into blackpool bypass is a nightmare and causes Shandon problems.
All that needed doing there was a full clampdown on junction blockers.
Park a cop there and the fines would have easily covered that cost
I wonder if there are any plans to re-locate Douglas Hall from their current site in Moneygurney. They're sitting on some very expensive land
Didn't castlelands try to buy that back in the day.
If Gardai cared, they could make a ton on FCPNs at that junction and Patrick's St during bus hours. Enforcement is a joke.
After the fire this week, there is a report in the Echo that new plans are due to go in shortly for over 250 units of student accommodation at the Good Shepherd site, potentially larger than the Bottleworks on Carrigrohane Rd. The previous planning lapsed in 2023.
A property development firm is believed to be working on the final stages of a planning application for permission to build in excess of 250 units for student accommodation on the derelict eight-acre Good Shepherd Convent site.https://www.echolive.ie/corknews/arid-41616475.html

Planning has been submitted for this - 257 apartments with 957 bedspaces

And an update on proposed Marina Market project with architect montages
https://www.irishexaminer.com/news/munster/arid-41623591.html
I fear the Marina Market will become too upmarket with a new revised home, rents will rise and small businesses will fold and only the Starbucks and the likes will take over. Can't imagine the alternative retro feel of the place will remain.
That proposal gives me serious Port of Cork Tower vibes
At least they're being ambitious and thinking about it all in fairness. But yeah personally I'd prefer to see them take on more old buildings and keep moving as the area develops. They've done a fantastic job in my opinion. That type of make-do gentrification is exactly what the city needs to help it grow. It's one of the few things that draws new footfall to the city.
