My ancestors did not have the view that ignoring court orders and standing outside a school was appropriate behaviour.
If I hung around outside a school day and day I think the gardai would be asking me questions.
although to be fair one of my ancestors was arrested in the 1800s for resisting eviction.

Nothing wrong with being Christian, the Catholic Church does have a diminished status as an organisation because of how they chose to behave. You're saying it was great in the past but to use my father's generation as an example. Suicide was rife but covered up cause it would prevent a church funeral, my mother was taught that miscarriages resulted in the baby ending up in limbo. If you were gay you ended up hiding it cause you would be treated terribly, if you got pregnant outside of marriage there was a strong chance of ending up in a laundry and having your child taken. Then there was the large-scale institutional abuse.
But it was a better time apparently...

I don't think they were arrested otherwise they wouldn't be giving media interviews at the side of the road. They would have been on their way to a police station.

Even on a daily mundane basis we were hit in school for minor transgressions. Teachers did what they liked. Bullied kids unmercifully and no one could stop them. My brother was hit so hard by the headmaster he ended up in hospital with a head injury. Mum moved him to the other school which was CoI, the Parrish priest refused her communion and told us all to leave the church. Oh yeah the good old days, Enoch would have loved it.
