The Following are pricings I got today for Westjet.
Cost is one way.
yep can’t be that good of a yield with 4 airlines on the route. Definitely due to less US demand but good to see DUB getting that reallocated trafic.
You’ll probably get a good deal on airfare to Toronto but personally it wouldn’t be a match for New York for me. Perhaps a little but much bigger storms have been weathered
I was thinking of NYC this year, but I'm also rethinking, and considering Toronto instead.
More generally, I wonder will the current geo-political situation impact Aer Lingus TATL services in particular?
And seemingly yield was already weak on YYZ , but I suppose Canadian airlines in general are making re-adjustments to their networks to reflect the current trends among Canadians of avoiding the US.
X11 weekly now bookable. Double daily on mon, Fri, Sat and Sun. Impressive number of WestJet departures now with YYT (2),YHZ (4) ,YYZ (11) and YYC (4).
Dublin to Toronto will see up to 5 flights per day this summer with WestJet increasing YYZ to 9x weekly (or 11x, have seen conflicting posts) from June.
Istanbul is an attractive hub to a lot of the world as well as being a fantastic destination in its own right, that new airport is absolutely nuts for a single walkable terminal
They often do. This week, A350s have been used on some flights.
Without checking how many connection banks IST has; airlines generally connect a spoke to each bank at the hub first before upsizing. This is why there's multiple KLM flights a day on EJets.
Would they not just use larger aircraft
There won't be a shiny head or crooked smile to be seen in the country soon!😁
Turkish Airlines going triple daily from June:

Do you not realise the Irish government are reactive, not proactive?
Don’t expect anything to happen until the sh1t has hit the fan.
The wheels of government do not move that quickly!
Hopefully not too long ATP, its in the news more and more, especially in regards to its impact on GRU flights, and its receiving lots of attention, all going well, I imagine it will be gone in the next 6 months or so
when will this god damn cap be scrapped? New gov specifically mentioned they had plans to do so and haven’t done anything??
I have to agree with You Marcusm. I’ve said before I have many customers originating from Brazil. Surprisingly a few are from a place I never heard of - Curitiba. I’m told it’s very far south and yet afaik, no flights to Europe emanate from Curitiba
Being married to a Brazilian and having known lots over the past 16 years, it would take a lot more than your anecdotes to make me think they were all around São Paulo which is actually one of the furthest Brazilian cities from Ireland!
Just my 2 cents, but demand to Brazil is GRU for business/VFR and GIG for leisure. Recife is likely a tiny market, and if GRU/GIG passengers have to connect anyways, they’ll probably choose their current, reliable options such as AMS, FRA, MAD or LIS
I do wonder whether a flight to somewhere like Recife with domestic connections would be optimal. It's more or less on the flight path to Sao Paulo and Rio de Janeiro.
You'd be surprised at how clustered the place of origin of many immigrants to Ireland is. From speaking to a couple of Brazilian friends living here, most seem to come from the Sao Paulo catchment area as informal word of mouth has contributed to Ireland being a favoured emigration destination for them. Not sure if that's the case for India. I suppose a bit like a lot of Donegal and Derry immigrants tending to go to Glasgow historically which has resulted in direct flights between those locations.
Not sure why the calls and clear demonstration of pent up demand is being scoffed at by some posters here. Airlines often launch routes based on unserved markets and to where the follow on cities their passengers are flying to. I'm sure most Brazilians flying to a destination other than Sao Paulo for example would have more choice of domestic, connecting feeder flights within Brazil and possibly prefer to connect that way rather than through a 3rd country that might only have one flight a day(or less) to their final home destination.
Countries with 60,000 and 100,000
Nationals call for direct flights, what a shocker. Both are huge countries with geographically diverse sources of population - India has 46 cities with 1m+ population and Brazil has 15- meaning that many would be poorly served by direct flights and they would still consider connecting in the gulf, Portugal, UK, France, Netherlands or Germany.
I’d be waiting until some airline considers it more fully.
In the article, when they say ‘140,000’ passengers, does that mean 140,000 each way or 70,000 round trip passengers?
I call for a direct metro from my house to my place of work - can’t see anyone going for it though.
RTE news : Calls for direct flight between Ireland and Brazil

This is certainly getting more media momentum...Interestingly, DAA says in the article that Brazil is the second most unserved market lacking a direct flight after India.
We can see from this summer, there are no significant new routes. US routes are a given I would say at this point. New airlines on riskier destinations will not come here as long as that arbitrary cap is there, we can't offer reassurance that they will actually get slots again. Everything is just being given away to Manchester, Edinburgh and other European hubs.
That conversation has been discussed with ambassadors of Brazil, India and other countries over the years too as part of "looking forward to building closer ties and bonds between the two countries " spiel. Yes, it's encouraging to hear but I wouldn't put too much weight on such chatter until we hear airlines applying for slots as a minimum..
Any flight would have to go the long way around to avoid Russian airspace at present. It would need to be 787 or A350 realistically.
Do ambassadors have that much power that they can conjure up flights & slots? Just checking on google the distance between Dublin & Tokyo is 9640 kms, so is it possible for an A330 to fly the route?
