Not in a million years. A tackle off the ball is a tackle off the ball, made more egregious that he was behind the ruck and in/around the grounding. Whether you're going forward, backwards, sideways it's irrelevant. It was an outrageous call.

I would have thought that retreating would make the offence worse. If he was advancing to engage in a ruck then fair enough but retreating to get into the defensive line?

Imagine a world in which jumping into a tackle were allowed. The head on knee and head on head and the tip tackles would increase by an order of magnitude. Super entertaining of course but many more people with head injuries
Oddly enough, England (match in hand atm) have a better chance of winning this 6Ns than Ireland. They can potentially reach 20 points, max we can reach is 19.

With Ireland at 14 men, France scored 22-0.
With both at 15 men, it was 13-13.
With France at 14 men, Ireland scored 14-7.
Ultimately, France kicked the absolute $hit out of us when they had an extra man. Their forwards were great but for me, not the winning of the game. It was how clinical they punished Ireland with an extra man.

Nah. They're just weirdly ungracious winners. Same when LAR beat Leinster a few years ago. They were bïtching and whining after the match about everything and anything, loads of it being untrue.

Italy have a better functioning attack than Ireland at the moment. Great to watch when they are in full flow. Pity the inevitably will lose due to defensive frailty in the end.

The TMOs have way too much power and interference these days. Between that and the alleged eye gouge yesterday, they really need to be put back in their box and only there when called on. They're simultaneously missing stuff and creating stuff - it's not good for the game.
