Seems this needs a new thread, as the 2.0 version is somehow corrupted with whatever is going on with the site.
I reported this on Thursday, still nothing done.
It's not just a Limerick Forum problem. Boards.ie moved all its operations to a Canadian platform called Vanilla a little while back and it's been a disaster from the get-go. Nobody on this side of the Atlantic can fix it, no matter how many times it gets reported.
New look on Cruises street is closing down. Company has gone into liquidation! Hopefully they bring back Bewleys!
Be careful, loads of us trying to post that news is what broke the other thread! 😁
Went into Eason's on Sat morning for the first time in years - will be surprised if it's still open 12 months from now. A hollowed out shell of what it used to be.
It's a real shame. I much prefer O'Mahony's for books but always used Eason's for magazines, cards, stationery, etc but in the last few years, they seem to have given up.
Ah FFS lads can ye go somewhere else with the misery guts stuff. Bad enough that we have shops closing without having a whine about ones that are still definitely open.
I normally agree you Breezy, but unfortunately Leod is right. Actually, I expect Easons to lease this shop, which they own, to a franchisee like in the Parkway and the Crescent and allow someone who's interested in making a go of it, to do so. A great location, great potential. Look at their neighbours Keane's Jewellers, with an enormous expansion.
It doesn't matter what you "expect" this is the business closed thread not the "I'm not happy with a shop anymore" thread.
Easons sold all their buildings ( apart from Dublin O'Connell Street and one or two more) a few years back, probably as a premeptive ' get the money now' move. The Parkway used to be an Eason franchise but isnt anymore. Again,. like many others on Cruises Street, the ground floor space is probably too small. Big basement, upstairs long shut.
Any chance a mod can lock the 2.0 thread?
People are posting in it but I (and many others?) still can’t see recent posts.
16th Jan is the last new post I can see when I open the topic even though the topics list indicates all is ok:
I was in there yesterday, it's a ghost shop in comparison to what it was like a few years back.
Easons offer you free next day delivery if you spend €10 and order before 6pm on their online store. Why would you bother going into one of their actual physical stores?
You say the same for most shops but generally the others look better kept, Eason's own store in the Jetland is much more appealing to shop in than their main and once their flagship store in Limerick.
Sorry about the delay, v2 locked now.
Can those complaining about Easons being a shadow of their former selves honestly say they buy as many newspapers or magazines today as they did in the 00s/90s pre smartphone? Greeting card sales have plummeted too as most millennials/Gen Zs send virtual/phone greetings or none at all. Magazine walls in every newsagents have been replaced by soft drinks fridges. It's understandable why Easons has downsized.
Duplicate post. In area of bad reception so send button playing tricks on me! 😊
Could you repeat that 🤣
Look at all the magazine publications that have stopped publishing like FHM,Maxim Gamemaster & others all online now sure. havent been in easons in town in years. is top floor gone now.
Recharge Cartridges in Catherine St. has closed. I was sorry to see it gone as I had used them for years for ink refills and they were always great to deal with and with very reasonable charges.
Top floor is gone. And the demise of magazines and traditional print media is definitely a major issue for retailers that rely on those products to draw customers in. Not sure if Eason's are making enough of an effort to pivot their business away from stationery. And on the day that Amazon.ie has launched, the future of Irish 'high street' retailers has probably been dealt another blow.
Daly's on William street to close after 68 years.
Dalys on William St is to close.
https://www.limerickleader.ie/news/business/1755979/well-known-limerick-hardware-store-to-close-after-68-years.html
I'm actually surprised that it lasted this long competing against the likes of B&Q and Woodies.
Sorry to see it close. One of the very few traditional family shops remaining in the city centre.
It was a landmark in William St.
It is still cheaper order from amazon uk. they increased all the prices now on amazon.ie even dulled down the amazon prime a bit. wont make much of a difference
A pity, it's a very useful place for miscellaneous bits and pieces. I don't drive, so can't easily get things from places in outlying areas.
That leave mckennas if you want any hardware without heading to the suburbs.
Always felt they should have stayed in the smaller unit
Wouldn't matter really. They were still going to retire.
The loss of local businesses due to retirement is just something we are going to have to deal with over the next few years. Anything locally owned is going to become a premium "artisan" or "bespoke" business like in the UK.
It's gonna suck but I can't see away around it.
Tony Clarke's on Thomas Street ( schoolbooks) apparently closing next month.
