With regard to the Samba/NFS mounts I can set them up but can't figure out how to access them from other boxes. Any pointers please?
Brilliant, thanks so much Andy1249.
Yes, I can access the box via webif. So hopefully nothing to do to the Master box.
Strictly speaking the device you want to set up as a " client " is the slave, the box you are connecting too is the Master or Server.
You type in the ip address of the Main box. Also you need to type in the username ( usually "root" ) and password on the main box. Leave everything else as is.
If you have not set up the main box for network access , you need to do that , and to do that , you need to set a password.
If youve already done it , and can access the box via webif , then you are good to go , just enter username , password , and the ip address of the main box , then you should be OK.
Note that it may take a while for the box to grab all the EPG data from the main box.
Changed cabling and seems to be ok now. Cables came with sky tv in 2004 apparently . Thanks for all your help Swoofer and calamari
Brilliant . Thank you.
This is what my Zero is set up as using IP off the other networked box
You dont have to do anything from the main box with multiple tuners.
You input the IP address you want to stream from and save it on your slave box.
Thanks so much.
So that refers to "host receiver" - is that the slave box?
So is "host receiver ip address" the ip address of the slave box?
If yes do I need to tell it the address of the master box I want to use??
Do I need to do any other settings at master box?
Sorry for all the basic questions- it might be more obvious when I have the slave box in front of me.

Yes as i had OpenVix on it when sat cable worked , and reflashed to latest image.
Samba and NFS are plugins to make your box discoverable on your home network.
Years ago i could not get Samba to work so i added NFS.
Thank you. Box hasn't arrived yet
so just trying to read up on it.
Do you first download openvix to the slave box?
Are Samba and NFS different things? Give different options?
On the slave box that has no sat feed , setting up tuner also gives you option for client mode.
Input the IP address of the multi tuner box into the slave box , that will import channels and epg into the slave box and it might needing a reboot to import its data.
This will make use of that tuner on the master box
I use Samba and NFS plugins to access network mounts on other boxes and use to view recordings from those boxes.
Is there much to setting up client mode and setting up accessing the master hard drive from the 2nd box ?
Did you ever come across a guide for client mode setup and the options etc?
Cheers, yeah the "opening the box voids warranty" stickers is what was putting me off opening it if not needed.
IIl go with a SSD.
No this box has one SATA port and it's this semi-external port with the drive sticking out a bit. There is no 2nd internal bay.
I assume they moved to this approach over the internal version so they can keep up this idea of 'opening the box voids warranty'. There are stickers to that effect over the screws. FWIW I had to open up the case anyway to fit it properly and with confidence. The slot is such a tight fit.
Little recording or not I'd still get a cheap SSD. I mean this 256GB SS costs not even 20 quid. And its so much cleaner and faster than any USB stuff.

I have the 512GB version of that and it's 100% fine. If you really just want 128GB here is one for €13.

A USB drive with the same capacity wouldnt be any cheaper.
Picked up this box last week ,didn't bother getting a hard drive fitted as thought I'd an external one I the house but its gone missing!
The box is the one with the HDD slot at the back .
Without opening the box up can this box also have one mounted inside ?
There will be very little recording done on this so was thinking a 128gb flash drive would suffice.
What people think the best option is ?
May have to put that up on GitHub next 😁
I added to CalamariFritti setup guide - manual scan, blind scan and signal finder.
Bookmark the sat Bible of channels on your pc as handy to have the details of said channels when they move and if you were to scan 1 tp to give you that list of channels.

Bellie slow down and read carefully, I gave you the instruction in post 2823 and you should do a pic with information on box, read my post again, And no you wont lose any existing channels. Signal finder means it finds the signal.
When the guy calls today you can have tv on and the channel with no signal, so when he adjusts/changes lnb you will get a picture. And get CNN tuned in as thats weak so if thats ok all the others are ok.
Signal finder will tell you the strength u can ring him on his mobile while at dish.
That's great, thanks. Ive saved a link to it for when replace the box down the line ( hopefully get a good few more years out of current box).
Re signal strength Im still unclear how to manually tune in a new channel . I get that when go to signal finder,it's showing the configuration for whatever channel is already tuned in and has been selected(eg BBC 1 Ln) . But not sure how to add the new BBC NW channel once I get into signal finder. Do I overwrite whatever settings are showing, but surely that will then mean I've lost settings for bbc1 Ln?
Anyway someone is meant to come today to check the dish and cables so fingers crossed it'll all be resolved. If it's not straightforward cabling or adjusting the dish, the guy calling hasn't a clue about the zgemma and I'm snookered.
CalamariFritti setup guide from a few pages back.
Someone should write a dummies guide to the zgemma for the non techy people
I did that actually, it must be somewhere here a few pages back.
You do not need to check signal strength for every frequency. Signal strength is an overall thing. For older LNB setups anyway. For newer SkyQ LNBs there may be a separation for vertical and horizontal but thats its. Defny no need to check for every channel.
If you go menu setup information about and take a pic I may be able to do a summary.
I'll give that a go tomorrow Swoofer. Cheers. So to get my head around it , every channel has signal finder settings..ie select a channel and then go to signal finder and that's the settings for that channel only. So I select eg Bbc 1 Scotland and change its signal settings to the ones you gave me? Im likely totally misinterpreting. Someone should write a dummies guide to the zgemma for the non techy people
Bellie1 you are in signal finder these pics show what you need to have in
signal finder and then enter the values, its all in this thread but so big now even I cant find where I explained it previously. When you are in signal finder you use the remote to toggle which means you place the cursor on the line you want to change and press right arrow. So make predefined user defined, then ensure dvb-s is dvb-s2, then use remote numbers to enter frequency, it will overwrite existing, make V H horizontal , other bits just toggle and make auto, there is a second page so arrow down and it should say 8psk, as you go through you should get a signal and lock. green to scan and channels appear select bbc1nw and it should open.
The above seems complex but its not. if stuck come back, I'm doing nothing today🤣, well for a while at least.
When you get the channels they will be in a bouquet called last scanned and when you scan again for another frequency they will get deleted so when found you have to save them 😂 and thats more for the learning curve.
Did a quick google but can't see anything about tuning in a channel manually. Setup/tuners and scanning.... and after that what do I select..Am afraid of making things even worse, if that's possible
Hi Swoofer, thanks again. Are you saying that I can manually tune in a channel? I thought you just wanted to know if I was getting a signal for the bbc channel. Now( finally) I get it! BBC 1 for dragons den would be great 😃.I've never manually tuned in a channel before, every day is a school day
You are an absolute star and a treasure! You really do go above and beyond.
I am on the late shift this week so will be Friday before I am awake enough to check it out but thanks so so much for going to all that effort to check it out.
Yes you will have to get to the dish.
I wanted you to try this one as its H and will give you BBC1 NORTH WEST.
10773H, 23000 dvb-s2, 8psk,
ITV has regions as well and may have a H one along with CH4 it would tide you over. If you name the channels I can check.
But if busy not a bother.
