Starting a thread for 2025 gigs as they'll likely start rolling in.
I'll arbitrarily throw in Rob Beckett playing the Olympia on the 26th September 2025 which went on sale today.
Think the average punter is going for Harvest/After the Goldrush gentle acoustic stuff (which he will generally do as an interlude or before the band come on) but, as you say, there's so much more…bring on the wig-outs on Old Black…!
Ocean Colour Scene announced as headliner for kaleidoscope
the whiskey from the Slane distillery is okay but not great
The Chinese is turning into a kebab shop and the village inn is getting a Murphy's tap.
Any Slane rumours at all?
Didn't realize he'd sold it out before - it's years since I saw him and it was a small venue - can't remember where and before that it was with Grant in (I think) The Mean Fiddler. Hopefully he gets a decent crowd.
Reckon I'll be there too, mainly because he'll have a band behind him. Last two times I've seen him were solo and I'd not travel for that. I'd prefer a standing than seated venue but this could be a special evening.
I'll be going. Saw him in Button Factory a few years back. An absolute pro. And played some of the old Go Betweens tunes, was great to hear. Can't wait!
I quite like Sun Mahshene. Really hope they get a good festival run this year. Yet to see them on many posters
Solo last time if I'm right and a band this time will help with sales. He sold out two nights at the NCH the last time he played there. It's a decade ago but as far as I'm aware his fans haven't died out yet. It's also a good time of the year for gigs I think. Fair chance you're right but I'd be more optimistic about ticket sales. See ya there if I make it up.
The scratch are playing Reykjavik on my 40th birthday.........

Saw Van at Lisdoonvarna back in 1983 .
He was ok . Not as grumpy as since but not a lot of onstage presence .
We saw John Martyn there as well and he was excellent in comparison. RIP
Was leaving work that night near the Point couldn't work out for a while so many bald caps on Luas. Weird
True Seath but I was surprised myself. Button Factory last time, it'll be a push I'd say.
Don't underestimate how many Go-Betweens fans there are about, plenty on here I'd wager. @Stillill42 almost certainly.
I know at least three people going, and will decide myself closer to the time. Forster is reliably great live and this'll be a good one with a band in tow.
This as regards Neil Young .
Saw him in the RDS with Crazy Horse and he was a grumpy yoke who jammed on his guitar for an eternity .
Still will give him one last chance …
Massive Van fan, went to see him in the point a few years ago when he was supporting Robert Plant. Went in expecting the worst, but he was grand. Robert Plant though, blew him out of the water, he was fantastic.
May just head to this to cross Neil off the list
Same !
But I will go to see Neil and just not be rushing to get there ;)
Playing with Duran Duran in Malahide Castle as well
Caught him on that tour at the Royal Albert Hall with Bobby Bland in support. Both superb and Van the most light-hearted I'd ever seen him. He's like that when he's playing with an artist he loves, same when he was with Dylan or John Lee Hooker. He did a couple of duets with Bland (Ain't Nothing You Can Do, etc) and also had Chris Farlowe and other pals along. Those days are gone. Malahide won't be great but there should be the odd treat.
It ain't Van's fault that despite 49 studio albums (and triple that in singles) Irish radio only ever plays the same 3 or 4 tracks that now sicken most people. There's a world of great stuff in his back catalogue but I also understand for various reasons why many people won't ever bother with it. Here's what Beck was listening to before recording Odelay.
Agreed. I'm not usually but with Crazy Horse his were always stupendous, particularly when they let loose during Down By The River.
Van was being Van, has been a consistent curmudgeon for six decades so no surprise that he was a dick during lockdown. I completely agree with the posters here who've admonished him for his dumb actions, particularly the health worker from Derry who was obviously infuriated with his challenge towards people doing their best to protect the most fragile and vulnerable in society. Young no saint either, another curmudgeon who scheduled a gig in Israel in 2014 despite requests from Palestinian and international artists not to proceed. The gig was stopped after yet another Israeli bombing of Gaza and he never re-scheduled.
I'm a huge Morrison fan (for me he's the greatest musical artist to have come from this island) and my one mitigating defence of him is that his actions weren't right-wing political but a stupid protest that he couldn't play live. I don't excuse him but understand why he behaved as he did. Basically just selfishness where his wishes overrode everyone else's in his mind.
As for the live stuff the time to see him was obviously in the late 60s or 70s. I never did but caught him a dozen or more times after that and though past his live peak he put on some great performances. Now he's very much an acquired taste live, far too jazzy for me and he won't convert any agnostics at Malahide. Worth giving him a look though. Van and Neil (both turning 80 later this year) ain't going to be playing too many more big outdoor shows on this island so it's a chance to pay tribute to both. With reservations.
NCH on a Wednesday night. There's no way Robert Forster comes close to filling that.
Me too, NY has 50+ albums, more than half of them are filled with long guitar solos, so it never ceases to amaze me why people are surprised/dissapointed when he does, exactly what is on, his many albums !
I actually got a Beta Band CD in Oxfam the other week for a few quid. It's good stuff alright.
Forget the name, has a tune called The House Song with a lethal bass line that I keep listening to. Rob Gordon must have been working there.
This will be my second time seeing Van, with both being as the support* act! I saw him in the Point in 2000, but was really only there to see Bobby (Blue) Bland 😎 But in fairness he did play a decent set that night.
I'm all in for the 15 minute solos…! 😁
he is notorious for doing that on “bad” nights
I remember in the early 80s, Van playing either Lisdoonvarna or Castlebar with his back to the audience most of the time.
