Wouldn't buy too much for 2k atm. I'll have to buy something at some point. Not looking forward to it!!
@Siamsa Sessions Carnew have a clearance sale coming up on the 4th of march. May suit. Obviously have to arrange haulage.
Might depend on your area. It has been difficult to get land for rent around here for decades. Not because there isn't any being rented - there's actually a lot, but the corn men have always hoovered it up.
Lads who were already farming the guts of 1000 acres and with 6-figure CAP payments. And extra 50-100 acres here or there only adds up to really days in terms of man-hours in the field per year for them.
Why, do you have to buy? I'm down numbers since last year with TB. But it's OK to be down one year, I have good few weanlings so hopefully be back up next year. I'd rather be slack for a year than forcing myself to buy at high prices
I'd say you're a bit shy there. Milk price is strong and, in my opinion, a good dairy heifer should be making a fair bit more than her beef equivalent.
Thanks for that. I'll keep an eye out.
The man who's bringing calves to the mart for me on Thursday said he'd haul heifers/cows in the opposite direction too.
Same situation here. Will be down 8 or 9 cows going to mid 60s from mid 70s. To be honest I'm looking forward to it. Has already made things more comfortable housing wise.
Good man. Nothing ventured nothing gained
got 450 for a 2 month old long horn this morning
Got 410 for a 3 month old Fresian bull
Got 30 for a really poor fr who nearly died
Was more or less running a flying herd here so wouldn't have enough replacements. Couple of twin mammy's not doing the business and another few problems pieces. No point carrying them either. Not against having less numbers. Not having enough is different. I'm not going to go out and just bid until I buy some. Try be like a dealer, nap a couple of cheaper stock and an auction! Leave the headlines to someone else
anyone ever buy from the greenlawn sale in kerry ,their sale is on saturday ,i have bought off them for a few years .
that’s 30 more than you’d of got last year 😁
would like to pick up 2 from there ….but I think it will be a very hot sale price wise
The Kerry Fresian breeders are having a sale in Listowel Wednesday 12th March.

What's yer regime through the parlour during the calving season for transition milk cows and such.i tend to let them back into the main herd and draft out as they.come through the parlour to be milked at the end or do ye separate on way in or have a separate mini herd for them.dont use dump buckets much as there's too much work in switching pipes and hauling buckets.might use them a bit for the stragglers later on.
separate group for any fresh cows/heifers that won’t milk on there own or anything sick. Makes milking very simple. Only dump buckets used are for colostrum
Fresh cows have tail tape and as they come in switch to dump line which is pumping to calf shed. Would love a fresh cow shed on straw though to give them time to recover before going back with herd.
Jars. Twice a day is enough to be milking. Extra groups is all extra work.
Did you get anymore bvd results?
Put in a separate air line with a few taps for the dump buckets. It makes it fairly simple
Not a bad idea at all but you're still humping milking out of the pit washing them.i ll definitely give it some thought
Used to use dump buckets. At the end of the milking I'd walk up and take the pipe out of the tank and use the suction hose off the cluster to empty the dump buckets to save carrying buckets out of the pit. Rinse out and leave the dump bucket in the pit.
No separate group for fresh cows either. If one is in bother I walk them back to a straw shed.
oh no just after being put on the market
Bounds us
Are you one of the current tenants Stan
Oh no is right. 🤣🤣🤣😂
Not Yet anyway. Maybe I don't need to send them away anymore seeing as my whole herd is being blooded.
no- sure If I was it would be in grass
buy away lad.. tis only dear the day you buy it
