It's not so much that they are releasing a video it's that there's a charge for a video of a segment of a live show from 18 months ago that world service members were either at or have heard previously that irks me. I'm not sure who this product is for and doubt it's going to bring in a flurry of new subscribers but if it does happy days. Which brings me back to the question why charge world service members for it.
Ps, not directed at you, but it's ok to criticise elements of second captains output.
I don't get this point of view.
You don't have to buy it.
I presume they're looking to connect with new customers. I think it was here a few months ago that someone mentioned they don't really have a video presence. There are loads of people who engage with their social media that way. YouTube is massive business and i know The anfield wrap offer separate audio, video and a bundle.
I prefer audio but the odd time i will watch a youtube cast of something.
That's why I thought it might have been a more recent Kimmage interview that I missed. Odd it took 18 months to get that video together, must of been some edit! Heard it, enjoyed it immensely, dont need to pay to see it no matter how well shot it is.
the irony shouldn’t be lost on you here.
You’re behaving in one way then moralistically scolding someone else for doing the same thing
Which is essentially what I am accusing the lads of doing with their attempts to charge for a single interview
Good journalist but an absolute moanbag
Our posts are in no way similar.
Ones a response with rationale. The other is someone being a….
Thanks.
You are taking a high ground stance against your behaviour being pushed back onto you?
Good man
I’ll certainly be steering clear of yourself. Far better things to do with my time
I understand how individual transactions work, thanks.
I’m discussing the principle of consumer surplus works and how looking to extract as much as possible is a pat down of your customers.
do you want me to patronisingly explain it to you, like you have above?
The interview is available to world service subscribers on the podcast feed.
They’re a podcast, you pay for audio, there’s nothing wrong with charging for the video. You don’t have to pay it. You can listen at no additional cost
Charging a 5er for an interview when you have already made a chunk of money off the show?
Absolute fleecing behaviour & complete chancery. Thats not about personal belongings, that's about squeezing consumer surplus to it's last cent.
As I said - one of the greatest examples that I have seen of a pat down of customers in a while
I'm a fan of Paul Kimmage and of David O'Doherty but thought Kimmage came across as a bit of a prick with his shouting at Eoin and The bit with DOD didn't really land
Seems odd to release this as a pay to watch video when it was so long ago
Come on man, they have left wing views but they're not calling for the abandonment of all personal belongings and the destruction of all corporations. They're part of a multimedia company and this is their livelihood. I think this post is ridiculous.
Kimmage live at the Olympia in September 2023. It's the one where David O'Doherty interrupted.
Seems like a weird move as others have said. I was presuming it would be free to World Service members too. I possibly would have watched it but I doubt I'll pay a fiver for it.
How "beautifully shot" can an interview on a stage be? I'm sure it would be a good watch, but I've heard the interview already...I feel they should put something like this out to their members for free. But fair enough if that's what they want.
Kimmage one of the best journalists in the country. I absolutely love him.
Don’t really see the benefit of this video tho.
I'd pay €4.99 not to watch Paul Kimmage
ironic that the likes of Ken and Branno are vocally displaying their left wing views regularly yet are party to such a capitalist pat down of their, already, paying listenership. surprised that they’ve tried such a stroke
Thanks. Which Kimmage intw is this exactly? Has there been one recently I may have missed?
Ah of course they can do as they please but it's a funny move from them and not something they've even done before that I can remember. I would have thought they'd have made it free to world service members because I can't see anyone paying for this.
Seems like a bit of a cash grab to me but yeah I won't be buying a video of an interview I've already heard 😁
I'd be unlikely to purchase, especially since I've heard the interview already but I've no issue with them doing this. They're free to test the markets however they want. If people make it worth their while then fire away. If no one buys then it won't happen again.
They mentioned it on yesterday's podcast. Basically a fancy video of the Kimmage live chat. €4.99 plus VAT.
Not sure I like this direction - if it is indeed a direction.

What is the video you are referring to? Is there a link?
Sigh…..I effectively said it would improve them. I said they’d definitely finish second if they had Watkins. Without him they’ll probably still finish second instead of third.
I don’t think Watkins is enough to make arsenal earn 7 points more than Liverpool from February on. I don’t personally think Watkins will make Arsenal earn more points than Liverpool from February on, nevermind 7 more points.
I think Liverpool are a much better team this season than arsenal on account of the injuries to Arsenals key attacking players and just Liverpool having better players in good form.
Anyway everyone’s point is out in the open now.
Yes I agree with above surely having any recognised striker would improve the Arsenal team for the run in. (And as a Liverpool supporter I'm glad they didn't sign him).
Ps what did you folks think of the video of the kimmage interview? As they were talking about it I assumed it would be free to world service members but no it's just a payed release people would have to buy. I'm not sure who would even buy it tbh.
Well there’s 3 points right there against West Ham. Add in the game against Liverpool and you’ve got your 6 points. Thats how easy it can happen.
What’s so far fetched about that?
Watkins isn’t Salah but he is an extremely competent striker. Was he the right signing? I’ve no idea, he’s 29. Would he have had an impact? Absolutely.
However, I think this thread isnt the place to discuss the pros and cons of Watkins so I’ll leave it there.
It’s far fetched that Ollie Watkins was going to be the missing piece to overhaul this Liverpool side that’s lost one game in the league this season. The gap is now 11 points. Arsenal have won all their games up to the West Ham one since Watkins would have signed so the most he could have possibly done is get the gap down to 8. He’s not roy of the rovers, hes not Mo salah. Dion seemed to think not signing Watkins was a defining moment for arsenal. It’s a bit daft.
19 last year, 15 the year before and 12 so far this year. Unsure what type of numbers you need to sign for Arsenal but he’s pretty good.
Considering the injuries, not signing a #9 has cost them. League over. Could have been different with a #9. Watkins was possibly available.
Is Watkins worth 6 points for Arsenal considering they’ve no senior striker? Possibly, I don’t see what’s far fetched about that.
He always seems to be off for pivotal moments.
Why doesn’t he bin off the FA Cup third round weekend instead?
Ken off all week.
Fantastic...
I think it’s far fetched to think Watkins is that level of player that could win a team a title from 6 points down and having played a match more against a pretty super team like Liverpool. That all sounds extremely unlikely to me.
Anyway…
It’s entirely plausible Arsenal close the gap with a proper #9. Six points really isn’t that much with 16 or so games left to play when the window shut. its all moot now, they didn’t and will finish top 4. They might drop off and finish 3rd or 4th, they might not.
Swiss Ramble speculated Arsenals current 3 year loss is estimated to be +£14 million. That gives them £119m to spend. PSR isn’t a massive concern and new rules are coming in down the line to adjust calculations. They could have bought him if they wanted. Sure City panic bought. Weird to bring United into it, they’ve spent an absolute fortune in recent years. Can’t afford anything beyond soup and sandwiches in the canteen now.
Title race over now
