People are overdoing it on the OH question. Not the first time in his rugby career that Crowley has fought for his place I'm sure, and I doubt very much he sees it as being treated unfairly. The coaches are putting plenty of minutes into SP and sticking with him, which makes sense the way the games have fallen this 6N. If Crowley remains in the top 2 and hasn't had plenty of big starts come the next WC, or if they persist singularly with Predergast and he gets injured without a fully prepped replacement, then it's bad prep form the coaches. But giving him a consistent run of games, which we are winning, is not unfair or poor coaching, nor does it mean that Crowley should think he is being overlooked. I expect Farrell loses sleep over the last 1/4 agains the ABs in the WC, and how Crowley wasn't ready. He does not want to be in that situation again, and if the coaches see SP as the #1 guy, so be it. But I'll wager Crowley stills gets plenty of opportunities at ten to upend that assumption, as it should be.
Thought Hansen , Lowe, JGP and Bundee when he entered the arena were excellent
we have not won any title this season.
Thats certainly one way of looking at it.
Another is that the way they're going they'll be in a similar place at the next WC should anything happen to Pendergast.
Crowleys price in France goes down every game this current carry-on continues.
He's a young professional in a sport where longevity isn't guaranteed. He'd be mad to put up with another season like this.
Obviously as a Munster supporter I hope he stays.
Aside: He was ready, - Farrell made a mistake by not replacng Sexton that day. Probably the worst one he'll ever get to make with Ireland.
It's also true, whether you like it or not
And I really thought Bealham made a huge difference
So you are deciding that Osbourne should be there based on the second half and completely ignoring his first half performance?
How can you do that?
He'd be mad to put up with another season like this.
Crowley is 25, first choice for Munster and in the Ireland 23. No player in that position has ever left since the “ban” on playing abroad and Crowley won’t either. He signed his current contract when he had two caps and was still second choice at Munster. He’s getting a serious increase from next season onwards.
I'm deciding based off of more than one game. He's a class player, and should be in the team outright.
Can't have a bad first half if he only plays in the second half.
I don’t know much personally about Jack Crowley but he strikes me as a tough young f*cker who isn’t going to run away from one of the best rugby gigs in the world because it’s not all going his way all the time. And based on past performance of guys in the Irish 23 he isn’t going anywhere. That’s melodrama.
As for the last WC, personally I was screaming at the telly to bring Crowley in, I still think it was worth the risk. But the coaches didn’t think he was ready and they have to go to sleep at night taking that as their responsibility.
it really isnt though, as others have said you dont get picked in the erc dream 15 and as the most important player of the first 15 years of the heineken cup if it were true
he wasnt a perfect player or a completely all-round player like dan carter, but that doesnt mean he wasnt one of the best 10s in the game while he was playing and was in no way a 'limited' player.
He has really established himself as a top class prop.
Should serve as timely reminder to many about the importance of learning and development. We have fantastic coaching structures here in Ireland which gives good players a platform to thrive. Who would have thought looking at the first 5 caps of Lowe and JGP too that they would reach the levels they have. You have to give youth a chance.
It has been to our detriment that we don't back youth enough. It is great to see the management team commit to something like this.
I'm having cold sweats at the thought of Clarkson against the French scrum. We got away with giving Wales four or five scrum penalties in the first half alone because Wales are limited, albeit this was a much better performance from them. Against France, it might cost us the game.
Bealham will start.
It's also.partly why I asked the question yesterday about Ryan, Joe Mc, Beirne all starting.
I'm not convinced Clarkson should be on the bench. What does he bring that means wes should be prepared to risk it? O'Toole's back and I was quite impressed with Aungier at the A game.
Are you saying picking 33 year old Finlay Bealham on the bench is giving youth a chance or something else entirely?
He came on and was fine against England and Scotland, let's not write off a young prop after one poor performance.
Who's writing him off? He's just not ready, as far as I can see.
There's a threepeat on the line, I don't want to lose because we give away penalties consistently at scrum time, and we will need to beat France.
I’m sick of people acting like the Centenary Quaich doesn’t matter
Can this kinda post be ban-worthy?
I bloody hate being reminded that the youngster I remember first breaking into the provincial side is actually now in fact a veteran and that it happened over a decade ago. I feel old now.
100%, I think Conan has showed his previous detractors (me) that he is the real deal…
Context you've chosen to miss form the quoted post, it was a hypothetical.
sorry about that. In 2027, we will be going for the “Drive for five”.
Will you be making the same comment in a year or 2 re Sam P!?
he will need to prove if in two weeks, not in two years. If he performs and Ireland win then his detractors will be eating humble pie (at least temporarily).
The notion that Conan need to prove anything to anyone, and this game is what did it, is fairly laughable.
those people arent humble enough to admit they are wrong.
They are all in on their view of Prendergast.
Admit you were wrong, when? Humble?
For the Wales game , the loss of Ringrose to the card meant that Crowley was the only outside back sub which definitely impacted any options for bringing him on any earlier.
