Another step in the right direction, a dedicated Bus Eireann service from the city to the airport via Black Ash is on the horizon

That would be great! Hopefully it will have good frequency and long running hours.

It would be so nice to land late at night and not be fretting about getting through passport control quickly so as not to miss the bus in 7 minutes or else have to wait an hour or get a taxi!

    And bus lanes.

Don't want to disagree, any addition is good, genuine question, what business connectivity is there from Lisbon or Madrid for Cork businesses? Don't we connect far more to belgium and germany?

Given the size of the Brazilian expat community in Cork, I think that connecting traffic through Lisbon would probably go a long way towards making the route viable. The big problem at LIS is capacity. It’s a single runway airport that handles about as much traffic as Dublin, meaning that TAP will need to look very hard at every potential route to make sure that they get the biggest possible return. Until the new airport for Lisbon opens, that’s unlikely to change, and that new airport has been bandied about for decades without any real progress.

Life is far too serious to be taken seriously!

I didn't realise things were that tight at Lisbon.

And yes it was Brazil/South American connectivity I had in mind specifically.

And absolutely yes Belgium and Germany would certainly be my preferences, but it seems like Germany just isn't happening unfortunately. At least Belgium is easily reachable from AMS

Why not use the Charleroi flight , Hans ?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,204 ✭✭✭hans aus dtschl

Obviously where I'm working on the day is the top consideration.

But then after that the reasonably high frequency of flights to AMS is a big factor. Then the train linkage: I find it easier to work on the train than the bus, and AMS has direct trains to a lot of cities. Driving causes a lot of lost time.

If Charleroi was even daily I'd probably use it more for sure though.

Edit: I should be clearer, time is the biggest consideration for me (maybe for most business travellers?) I don't get to be very flexible on dates. I get in, do work and get out. Hanging around any bit means racking up costs. So daily is kind of the minimum you want.

All the Dalaman flights have been taken off sale

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 51 ✭✭fjr13

Always an optimist, perhaps the 4 flights sold out?

Maybe.. but the marketing for it from either Cork or TUI had been non existent so I reckoned the plug had been pulled

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 292 ✭✭TheBrownBird32

Cork Airport has removed Dalaman from their website. Looks like the route has been pulled then

Same. For business travel I don't want to drive. I can't work and drive… Train & plane please. And frequency.

Zurich is also really well connected with additional flights and trains, it's my airport of choice for trains to/from Germany and around Switzerland, it's just 10 mins to the hauptbahnhof, by train that goes every 10 mins or less. I love that big train departure board in Zuri. One of these days some work will be cancelled and I'll hop on a TGV to somewhere instead for the day. :)

I also like the segregated high-speed security setup for business travel when it's available in airports. This is really handy when you're moving around on a tight schedule. AMS also has it, ZRH has it, but not Lisbon. Don't even need it in Cork, also on my fav airport list for that reason! You can rock up with a few mins to go.

That Cork Zurich flight is only a few months of the year. Oddly, only the summer, when most of us are doing less business travel, and for those, only 2 or occasionally 3 flights a week. Year round would be amazing. Daily would be a dream.

Great to see Air France returning today

Fingers crossed this is the year they make the route year round again

Interesting read. AF/KLM boss says Cork may get Transavia flights to destinations like Nantes in the future

It sounds more definite from the article that Paris CDG will go year round. That would be helpful to add another European hub for global connections - although it's hard to beat the flexibility of 4 flights a day to and from Heathrow for connectivity with Aer Lingus!

Hi lads, looking to plan a couple of days away for next winter. Myabe October / November / December.

Does anyone know when the full winter scheduele is likely to be confirmed? Trying to gauge if we're better off waiting, or just booking something sooner rather than later.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 292 ✭✭TheBrownBird32

I would expect Ryanair to start filing their flights for the upcoming winter season around May.

Aer Lingus already have their Winter flights up.

Although Cork Airport won’t announce the Winter schedule until around August

Potential KLM to Amsterdam for Shannon too. That would be well used.

However, Aer Lingus is working against itself there. I had a conversation with some former colleagues the other day. One of them had taken KLM for the first time in 2024 for a trip to South Africa, and she was just shocked at how poor the EI onboard product looked compared even to KLM's economy class. And I see where she's coming from, I had the inverse experience when heading to a work conference in New York about a year ago. The Cork-London leg was just atrocious. Cabin crew were nice, don't get me wrong, but Aer Lingus' short haul cabin is just horrendous.

Yeah…. plus they'll fill every single plane. Big catchment area for connections, just like Cork.

Cork to Schiphol twice daily from KLM is great news

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 51 ✭✭fjr13

Did I miss something? Schiphol is already twice daily with KLM.

Much better write up, certainly doesn't like like there will be any extra frequencies from KLM anyway. Wasn't there an article a few months ago where niall mccarthy said KLM were to double their services?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,081 ✭✭✭✭titan18

On one hand, having Air France as a connection option would be nice as their business class is generally considered better than KLM. On the other, CDG is horrific to connect in

KLM has announced that it will increase its capacity on its twice daily services from Cork to Schiphol. The service will now utilise two aircraft on the route, an Embraer 190 and now also the larger Embraer 195 E2, which will mean increased capacity of around 20 seats.
