Cupra announced their first electric SUV today, the Tavascan.
The article says it's an ID4 but definitely had more an ID5 coupe look with the sloping roofline.

They were a rare sight up until a week ago but there were 5 or 6 in my dealership today ready to go. My insurer didn't have them on system until today I had to jump through a lot of hoops yesterday

Question for those in the know.....this has manual battery preconditioning which I've never had before, I dont need to DC very often and even when I do it's splash abd dash for 15 mins or so, does preconditioning the battery use much energy?
It was showing 40 mins to optimal temperature last night, what kind of increase in consumption would driving for 40 mins while conditioning cause?

Definitely curious to see these in person, I really like the Enyaq but not a fan of the coupe or ID.5.
I'm not a fan of front light bars but I like the way this one is split up. I also like that they went with a fairly normal designs in the headlight area as some manufacturers are moving to the bare minimum LED, I think a traditional headlight adds a lot to the design so it's interesting to see them style around it.
That light up badge in the front is really slick looking.
Enyaq Coupe is also a lovely looking car with a good spec

Didn't see any update on this - how are you getting on with the Tavascan- I'm sure it's a smooth and lovely driving experience? Has it met your expectations and any surprises?
Yep enjoying it a lot. I love the looks, and so do many other people. They really nailed design in my opinion.
Have 1000kms on it already in a week and a half. Some of that was just going for a spin to get used to it.
It's very like the born to drive to be honest, so much is the same. Same drivers display, same steering wheel so behind the wheel.is very familiar.
I have an individual mode set up in the cupramode for steering and power and the most comfortable suspension setting for every day driving which is what I have found myself using. Hard suspension setting on the 21 inch wheels isn't great unless the road is perfectly smooth. It's defo more comfortable over bad surfaces than the born in softer suspension modes.
Not much I don't like, speed warning is a bit annoying but i turn that off at start of every drive it's beside lane assist in the menu which also gets turned off.
I like some of the features that my born doesn't have, but are probably available on the born also now. Heads up display is brilliant, panoramic roof especially on sunny day like today, screen is better and more responsive.
The interior and exterior lighting is very impressive. I'll stick a few photos at end. Efficiency seems to be almost identical to the born which surprised me so with the 30% bigger battery range should be 30% more too. Got 400kms out of my first charge and 450 on my 2nd charge. 500 possibly within reach in certain conditions.
Just seeing your question about battery conditioning, I’ve used it on the ID.7 and even within 10 mins it went from 85kW max to 140kW so it seems to work well and that had also said 30 mins to maximum or something to that effect. That was on a cold December day. It does use some range for sure (I’d need it do it more to make an informed real world guess) but I guess the whole point of it is to lose some range, you’ll get back on the road quicker.
Lovely car- well done! and enjoy it. The speed limit alarm comes on for me in the Born but I can hardly hear it.............could be of course that I'm half deaf. I find the infotainment system a big upgrade to what I was used to in the older Born. Only problem I have at the minute is on startup I'd like the seat heater to be off so that I can set it myself to whatever is comfortable at the time with the weather. No matter what I do within the heater settings it seems it won't budge from 1 dot heat setting on startup.
Yeah i did it once wasn't even heading to a charger, it went from 40 cold to over 100 quite quickly for me. Handy feature to know is there when needed.
Getting a ceramic coating done, collecting tomorrow
Looks great, pick up some of the Gyeon Quick Detailer from them when collecting. You can use it as a drying aid, coating topper after every wash. Spray and wipe!
Would you mind sharing what package you got and what you paid?

Not sure I'd use those over a ceramic coat.! I would be more inclined to use something like this Gwash
My basis was that the lads there on the long mile road use gyeon coatings so makes sense to pick up the same brand while collecting.
No objections to the GWash kit either.
I get that, But I wouldn't be adding any other protection to a ceramic.
Both Gtechniq and Gyeon state that their QD’s can be applied on top of coated cars. Why wouldn’t you use them?
I'm old school and prefer to let the ceramic do it's job without adding other coatings on top. Matter of choice I guess.
I suppose my school of thought is that the QD adds a consistent layer on top which will prolong the coating underneath.
No way any of these last 3 or 5 years in my experience. No right or wrong I suppose.

Almost another 2 weeks in, How are you getting along with the Tavascan? Mileage getting closer to the 500 yet? Gonna have a look at one of these and the Terramar on Tuesday.
Yep getting on great, love it so far. Looks fantastic in my opinion, lots of people still asking about it when they see it and admiring it. Almost not looking forward to the summer as I won't see the fancy interior lighting much for a few months! But panoramic roof should flood nice natural light in on bright days.
Best compliment i can give it as regards driving is that it's just a more comfortable version of my Born thanks to the DCC which I have set in an individual mode most comfortable suspension setting for most of my driving. So easy to switch in and out of modes too, serious power when you put it in cupra mode.
I'm only charging to 80% now which lasts me a week so I'm not trying for that 500 range or anything. I'm not range obsessed as I don't need it and don't mind a short stop when I do.
I'm seeing 15/16 at the end of some journeys if I have heating off, yesterday was 13 degrees out and I just use heated seats and steering. At that kind of consumption its in the 500 ballpark but that's just tipping around suburbs and a small bit of dual carriageway. I'd guess 100kmph, warm day, heat off it will push 500kms range.
A month in now and I've still not seen another on the road and I live close to my dealer I would expect they've sold some locally, I haven't see a Terramar yet either.
You seem really smitten with the Tavascan. Anything you miss from the e-Tron or is it beaten hands down ?
Etron probably still the more comfortable car but i haven't been in one since so hard to back to back test them and say for sure. Materials in etron when you tap on them definitely still feel more premium. You can definitely tell its in a different price segment.
However the one bit you touch all the time is nicer feel in cupra, the steering wheel. Which is heated, wasn't in the Audi.
But it also feels much heavier and cupra is more lively to drive. No noticeable difference in speed when you put the boot down in either, they're both in the 6 to 7 second range to 100kmh, mid range punch close enough too. But then again, so is the 200bhp born so it shows how important weight is.
However, for more or less same money I'd have a tavascan over q4 etron, but then again I'd have a well specced enyaq over a q4 too.
The thing with the big etron is despite having a 95kwh battery, it only had the range of a 60kwh smaller car.
Tavascan is so much better specced than the big etron I had, its a top spec tavascan for 52k compared to a standard mid range etron that was 85k new, I'm in no doubt that if I was to spec up like for like the etron would be twice the price as can be seen with a well specced Q6 now. Heads up display, panoramic roof, heated steering, beautiful interior ambient lights, double boot floor, blind spot, matrix LED lights all on the well specced tavascan which I could afford to buy on top of the 43k base price, not a hope I could do it on a full fat etron. Even a q4 etron is up around 70k for the same spec, have a look at the ones for sale used, nobody has been speccing them up to those levels.
I just couldn't see myself staying in reasonably new Audis with the price of them.
Picked up my tavascan on Tuesday. Absolutely love it it's my first electric car, last car was a golf r so two very different machines,
I'm really loving all the new teck on the tavascan, drives lovely plenty of power stopping it is taking a little getting used to (very heavy)
Infotainment system works really well fast and smooth. No issues with all the heating etc on the screen, it's very intuitive to use.
Panoramic roof is a lovely touch
So far the only thing is, I went to charge it today (waiting for home charger) and even with battery optimised it was still only saying it's max charge rate was 60kw and hour. Any advice or tips on getting it higher would be appreciated
