That’s why buying on camera is no good and you need to be at the mart up close.
Have not stepped inside a mart to buy in 18 months and there is many like us. Problem with having to be in a mart to buy is it takes significant time
you didn’t watch the video clearly
What's the closest live prices have gotten to UK prices over the last say 10 years.
It does look like prices will hold for another while yet doesn't it
Agree, you get used to the camera. Good few feedlots have now a dedicated camera/PC office and send the lorry to match the amount.
Buying off the camera means unless you buy you do not need to travel to the mart. As well if cattle are too dearyou do not need to buy. As well you can pick up value. Yes you may get caught with one every now and again but if you are saving 30-50/ head elsewhere you will make up the difference.
Which video are you on about. As @kk.man Posted many feedlots are buying off the camera, processors the same I have heard of in one case one processor has a buyer looking at 2-3 marts at the same time on different screens.
Everything is about percentages. In many cases you have a better view on the screen than from up in the seats around the ring.
Plus the advantage is you could be Larry Goodman or Paddy farmer, no-one knows your identity. I don't gamble but I caught a few out polling.
I always thought the big Meath cattle exporter owning and running marts was a conflict of interest.
@TinyMuffin it could be. He moved the start time of Carnaross back from 11:30 until 10am. One theory behind that is it allows the heavy cattle bough early in the day be killed down the road in the meat plant if needed.
Was chatting a man earlier that was at a Mart this week. He said he didn't see the northern Ireland lads there.
He was saying there has been several of them there for the last month or two and very active too every week. I am sure they are there online all the same.
Disgraceful that these cows were brought to the mart in that condition, there is no luck in treating cattle that way.
Anyone familiar with selling calves, can you still sell a calf once they are younger than 48 days without a TB test ?
42 days
what are you on about
We wer talking back along about lame cows and a cow that made 20 euro in mautys thar was riddled with johnnes disease.
Yes I'm not sure how anyone could have thought I was talking about anything else,I replied to the posters comment on the sick & lame cows so there you go,there is an issue in that you reply to a posters comment but obviously if the conversation moves on it appears out of context.
If you press “quote” on the post you want to reply to people will know what you’re talking about and who you’re replying to, especially when it’s 5 days and multiple posts later.
Like @memorystick I had no idea what you were on about either.
OK thanks I have it now.
Only getting theses up now. Two of theses were bought home from a mart as were only getting 2280 3 weeks earlier, was told I was mad to bring them home. One was 30kg heaver and the other only 10kg heaver. 1010 the price difference in the 2 of them. 2 factory agent came out to look at them they were 570 on grid the first day and 6 the second time I went. Glad now that I went to mart.
Where's that mart .... prices down southwest nowhere near that....3.50 and you're doing well at that....
Kilkenny mart. PSRA 001166
That why the dealers buy in SW and show them in Kilkenny.
Ha very true.
There the dealers in the Northeast head to Kilkenny to buy cattle to bring up this direction.....
Congratulations that's some check for four cattle. Us poor dairy farmers can't keep up with ye
In all fairness their is no need to be sarcastic it's a common attitude from dairy farmers to make smart comments towards all other farm sectors and yet the reality is many dairy farmers are only struggling along when you balance out the high and low milk price years but they are brainwashed by teagasc, ifj and other vested parties into thinking that dairying is the only game in town, the person that shows mart or factory dockets needs to be congratulated on their hard work
Jaysus lad I didn't read any sarcasm from that comment. Moreso congratulations and good natured banter
Relax, I did congratulate the man, it's a great check for 4 animals. I'm a mixed farmer. I rear the calves too.
Most dairy farmers are delighted that beef is up. Do you think I want to sell AA yearlings for 7 to 800. Do you think dairy farmers delight in taking 20 euro for a three week old fr bull calf, or 80 for an AA female. Take the chip off your shoulder it will make you lob sidded
Would ya stop. I only get a big cheque like that once a year, sure you get it once a month..
