There's a new two-way cycle lane to be constructed very shortly linking the existing cycling infrastructure at George's Quay to O'Connell Bridge.
Looks like a positive step. Had no idea they were going ahead with this so quickly!

Are the traffic lights modified yet?
They are in the process of installing traffic lights at O’Connell Bridge and presumably will do so at Aston Quay next.
The length it's taken to these works always frustrated me. That other works to that junction have been finished for months now. Why couldn't they have installed those lights a month ago while they were finishing other sections? They are not dependant on each other and wouldn't have to be activated until the scheme was completed.
Very frustrating looking at a lovely nearly completed two way cycle lane alright when you're trying to squeeze between buses and trucks on Burgh quay.
Looks like it'll be late January before it's open. Can't complete the works during the Christmas period apparently!

Good and bad news in that report title. The new late looks great, but given I'm coming in from the Heuston side, I'll be left facing a couple of potentially lethal spots (esp. joining Wolfe Tone Quay) for a few more years. Hopefully I won't have been run over by a truck by then :(
I took a spin this evening. Very nice. Though the treatment at O'Connell bridge makes no sense. There is no way to get from Westmoreland to the new lanes - I think this was already raised here or by IrishCycle. But it's worse than I expected as there are concrete curbs that physically prevent you from making the manoeuvre. I had to cycle on the opposite bike lane to get onto the new lanes. I thought the City Quay/Moss St junction was fine, despite concerns that some have raised.
However the Aston Quay bit is awful - it abruptly and dangerously runs out and directs you right back into traffic flow and buses. Better not to use it at all.
Isn't there a traffic light at the end of the Aston quay bit to allow you to merge safely?
There is; I don't think that part is that bad to be honest. It's overall a useful addition, albeit imperfect as usual.

My first time on the south quays today since this opened. Do you generally have to press the button to leave the track on Aston Quay, or did my bike just not trigger the coil?
It generally detects my bike coming up to it without me having to press the button.
